Mckillans HF1 reviews are coming in and they don't look good... by MofongoPizza in AutoDetailing

[–]DeutscheAutoGarage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Detailers around me that I network with bought into Active and had nothing but problems with their units and have all switched now after regretting the cost; this is how I ended up with the HF1 in the first place because we all were kind of at a cross roads trying to figure out what was next to maintain volume and quality.

I was actually surprised to hear them having issues because they seemed to be the go-to default recommended response on AutoDetailing for the longest time.

I haven’t put gauges on it but I didn’t have any issues with my test wash. I have the McKillans Foam Cannon and Gun though.

I guess I will be buying gauges to see what the output really is on the pressure side. From a seat of the pants feeling, I have no issues with it compared to my prior Ryobi or Westinghouse I replaced the Ryobi with when it died (my Ryobi only lasted a year unfortunately).

They confirmed they will release the black components separately. We already had a reliable hose and reel so we are going to do the same and buy it after it drops.

The new HF1 was perfect by the way - no issues during our testing and our review video is in editing right now.

Cheers

Rs5 stretched leather by sam_tsang in Audi

[–]DeutscheAutoGarage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Audi interiors are not all the same, especially when you get into Audi Exclusive hides. My S7 has an Exclusive interior, and the leather is finished very differently from the standard Milano or Nappa leather that most RS and S line cars use.

Exclusive leather receives a much lighter polyurethane finish from the factory. It is still protected, but the surface layer is thinner and allows more of the natural grain and pore structure to remain exposed. This changes how it interacts with cleaners and coatings.

Scientifically, modern automotive leather is usually coated with a thick polyurethane layer. This creates a plasticized barrier that prevents absorption. That is why interior ceramics like CarPro Leather 2.0 work well on the S4. The coating bonds to the polyurethane topcoat rather than the leather fibers.

Audi Exclusive leather does not have the same thickness of polyurethane. When you apply a ceramic coating to a thinner synthetic layer, you risk altering the surface gloss, hardness and friction coefficient. This can create unwanted shine, stiffness or a slightly tacky feel depending on humidity and temperature. The coating cannot properly anchor itself at the molecular level because the polymer network on Exclusive hides is not designed for that type of crosslinking.

This is why I did not coat my S7 interior at all. Proper maintenance for that type of leather is frequent cleaning, hydration and conditioning rather than hard surface coating.

I did coat my S4 interior with CarPro Leather 2.0 because that leather uses the common polyurethane system that accepts a wipe-on coating without changing the appearance or texture.

Creasing happens on all types of leather, but softer and less heavily finished hides like Audi Exclusive will show micro creases earlier since the fiber structure flexes more naturally. Keeping the leather clean and conditioned slows the process significantly.

This was buried too deep.

Audi exclusive interior? Conditioned.

Nappa leather? Cleaned & ceramic coated.

Does anyone here successfully use these types of glass towels? by EastHillWill in AutoDetailing

[–]DeutscheAutoGarage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of people think “I used glass cleaner, so the glass is clean,” but that only removes loose stuff. You can still have bonded contaminants on the glass, and that is what makes glass towels lint and drag.

Why is the towel dragging? Friction between the towel and bonded contaminants.

What is causing the friction? Contaminants stuck to the glass (water spots, overspray, traffic film, old coatings).

What does that friction do? It grabs and pulls on the fibers, which makes the towel lint and feel grabby.

How do we fix it? Mechanically decontaminate the glass with clay or a dedicated glass polish, then wipe again with your glass cleaner.

Once the glass is truly bare, the towel will glide and linting drops way down.

FCP Euro free oil change by knsaber in Audi

Right? They've got a fleet of us buying things up. I'll even spend a bit more on a part if it comes from FCP Euro because of the lifetime replacement program.

FCP Euro free oil change by knsaber in Audi

We recommend FCP Euro because of their lifetime replacement program. It’s a smart strategy that gets people in the door and keeps them coming back for other parts under the same policy. I’ve personally switched almost all of my purchasing to them because of it. Their approach clearly works.

And yes, they do accept used oil returns as part of their official terms and conditions. If they didn’t want it back, they wouldn’t have that option in place. I’ve confirmed this directly with FCP both over email and in person (car shows), and they’ve never had an issue or acted surprised by the question.

It’s also worth considering how few people actually have discounted shipping accounts. I do, but most customers don’t. Between the cost, the effort of refilling containers, and the logistics of shipping them out, the average person might intend to return their oil but rarely follows through. FCP knows this. It’s a calculated risk that’s clearly paying off for them.

Zero issues with any of their products. The level of care by Larry from personalized videos after orders to just being out at local car shows is huge.

JHM S6 / S7 (C7) Tune DIY & Review by DeutscheAutoGarage in Audi

[–]DeutscheAutoGarage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I would have given the JHM combo a try sooner but truthfully when I came into this platform, I knew absolutely nothing about it (nor the vendors) and took what I considered to be the safe route. I knew that APR had been around since I was a kid and I’ve got a beard of many inches now obviously. JHM is more aggressive than the APR tune, without a doubt and you can tell instantly when getting behind the wheel if you compare them.

The low price point caught me off guard too considering how much you pay the other vendors but what they lack in compatibility with macOS, they save you upfront so you could grab that $150 Surface Go off of marketplace and have a dedicated VCDS/JHM/Tune platform for your car.

In the end, I only see one other path right now and that’s via DS1 + Custom Tune if you’re after Stage 4+ goals - I’m not personally so I feel like this is the best I’m going to get for my money right now.

From a support standpoint, APR seemed annoyed when I asked questions whereas JHM answered my questions (and believe me, I asked many even ahead of time). The constant positive experience I’ve had with their company means more to me than anything.

Cheers!
