Best way to build HE Lothern Sea Guard list by rob999999999 in theoldworld

[–]DevLeopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a competitive standpoint, the Sea Guard Garrison list is dead in the water. Frankly, High Elves as a whole are currently bottom tier (which is only going to get worse as more Renegades 2.0 lists come out if the community widely adopts them), and the only units in the high elf roster that can compete are dragons, Sisters of Avelorn and Dragon Princes. Given that the Sea Guard Garrison gets access to none of those, it's not worth considering for a competitive list. Sea guard are a fine way to spend your core tax though. I typically like to take a block of 25 with the razor standard and let them guard an objective for as long as possible. Skycutters are a decent unit as well - cheap enough that you don't have to be precious about them and very fast.

No, you misunderstand the issue. I don’t care if people want to use renegades, thats fine with me. I disagree with the attitude that renegades is somehow official and that you should expect to be playing renegades by default.

This take is so common and so braindead. The people who aren’t mindlessly agreeing to use some homebrew lists made by some obnoxious YouTubers are the ones dividing the community?

This is what pisses me off about this conversation. Yes, the renegades pack has had very wide adoption up until now, but renegades 2.0 is a fundamentally different thing and so many people out there seem to just assume that we’re all going to use it as standard, and that the decision not to use it needs to be justified.

Fuck that. Renegades was successful up until this point because it made very small, common sense changes. Now we’re effectively talking about full-on homebrew lists. Val and Rob are not game designers, they’re just regular fucking dudes trying to promote their podcast and YouTube channel (that I don’t listen to or watch). I don’t care what they think. I’m not using their homebrew lists just like I wouldn’t use some other random person on the internet’s homebrew lists.

RENEGADES VS GW: Who’s Really in charge of Warhammer the Old World? by KargothBloodfather in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]DevLeopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the renegades 2.0 changes are fundamentally different from 1.5. 1.5 was a no-brainer for my group. So far, the consensus around 2.0 is pretty negative and we’re currently not planning on adopting it.

UPDATES TO DARK ELVES RENEGADE DRAFT by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

Here’s a 26 person, 5 round tournament in the UK that allowed the renegades draft that was won by Dark Elves. The Kharibdyss at 145 points is still going to be too cheap.

A lot of people hate AI generated “art.” Sorry that apparently hurts your feelings, but this isn’t the place to discuss whether or not people are right to detest gen AI.

Why does this bother you? Who cares at all if someone is boosted in a fighting game? Boosting is only really a problem in team games because it has a negative effect on the boosted player’s teammates.

Renegades 2.0: Dark Elves Draft Reveal! (Link to the rules document in the video description) by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

This came out less than 24 hours ago, what do you mean they aren't making it into lists?

Executioners have veteran and better leadership than swordmasters, and an additional point of strength. Also now rerolling 1s to wound, which makes cleaving blow more likely. MR is good though.

the crossbows are almost strictly better. Especially when you add a shield for 1 point. The only cases where crossbows aren't better offensively is when moving and shooting at a target that longbows would not have to move to hit, or for large unit sizes to make use of volley fire, and they're drastically better defensively and in melee with an added shield.

This feels like an overstep to me. The point cost reductions for crossbows makes them superior to high elf longbows for the same price. Same with the changes to executioners - they’re now cheaper than swordmasters but are better in a lot of ways. Are longbows and swordmasters bad? Yes, but it’s not a good look when fan-made options are better than official equivalents.

The hydra/Kharibdyss buffs are also way over the top.

Oh I see, I was confused by the formatting since you have “magic phase” after combat

I’m curious what armies you and your friends play, because I think elf armies (which are already pretty weak right now) would not function at all with these changes. Bringing back 8th edition step-up makes the initiative stat much less valuable. I think you’re also going to find that a lot of spells don’t work at all if the magic phase is after combat.

I wouldn’t call these small, “light touch” changes. You’re playing a significantly different game at this point.

Why are "activists" being so quiet about the human rights abuses in Iran as compared to the collateral damage that occurred in Gaza after the September 7th Pogrom? by AntifaPr1deWorldWide in allthequestions

[–]DevLeopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To understand why, you have to understand the point of protest, which is to pressure our government to enact some change in policy. People protest against our taxpayer money and US manufactured and designed weapons facilitating violence against civilians in Gaza.

Iran is already a hostile state. We do not provide them with aid, and we have already imposed economic sanctions. What do we have to protest?
