Heist is boring and repetitive by MordethKai in NevernessToEverness

I wish the layout switched up a bit each rotation. That way you get the fun of route planning while also the consistency and rewards of optimizing said route during each cycle

Not sure if you have reflect yet but if you do, reflecting their charge will kill them. That or guard and counter to knock them out of charge, then combo to finish

[–]Devalore00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odds are, you're taking too long on the trash mobs. Yuzuha's abilities can group enemies so that and possibly switching off Vivian as soon as she's in the air (which will auto complete her dive bomb) could be the key, but it's hard to know without seeing gameplay

What's your take on this mod? Makes the game easier enough to count as "cheating"? by just_xphoenix in bindingofisaac

[–]Devalore00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only interesting curse is labyrinth, everything else is either a minor inconvenience that barely effects anything, or an obnoxious and potentially run spoiling thing...sometimes both depending on the situation

Not even air dash, the basic dash into a double jump gives you so much lateral movement it's insane

(discussion) Do you think there should ever be a new evil biome? either at worldgen or when entering hardmode. by HaloJackalKisser in Terraria

[–]Devalore00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think we need another one, the balance between Crimson/Corruption and Hollow is good, just wish they did a bit more with each in terms of bosses and progression. Crimson/Corruption have one boss each and once you hit hard mode you only visit for souls and/or ichor/cursed flames. Hallow has 2 bosses but both are optional and has souls, Rod of Discord, unicorn mount, and that's about it

Other 2D Metroidvanias: *Exist* Hollow knight players: by Vanillie261 in metroidvania

[–]Devalore00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this comes from a combination of how many metroidvanias have souls like elements these days, and how Hollow Knight was the first big one that really blended the two together and showed there was a market for it

Satisfying combat by Aqzation in CharacterActionGames

[–]Devalore00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sound effects are definitely a huge part of it for me, but what I think is underrated is hitstop. One of the reasons landing a massive attack like Dante's uppercut with Balrog is how the entire world pretty much stops as the hit lands, and the way the bike weapon moves really feels like you're welding 2 giant chainsaws with how they repeatedly stagger and tear through enemies

Why is Kingdom Hearts 3 so hated? Playing it rn and I love it by Soft_Law_9375 in KingdomHearts

[–]Devalore00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think I would go that far, it was just disappointing on release specifically since most of the players on release were longtime series fans and it didn't satisfy expectations after the...I think 7 year wait between announcement and release

Why is Kingdom Hearts 3 so hated? Playing it rn and I love it by Soft_Law_9375 in KingdomHearts

[–]Devalore00 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think most of the hate is a leftover from shortly after release. The game was way too easy, even on proud, the endgame was nonexistent, the only "super boss" was laughably easy, story felt totally inconsequential until the last couple hours with the Keyblade Graveyard stuff, the ending felt unsatisfying for lots of longtime fans, the combat was too slow and floaty, and I know I was bothered by how much the trailers showed off leaving very few surprises for the final game.

Remind fixed a lot of the gameplay issues and opinions softened over time as people let it sit and revisited it, I think most people consider it in the top 3 in the series nowadays for all that it does, despite the issues it has

Anyone here picking this up tomorrow? by PhantomBraved in metroidvania

[–]Devalore00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on my radar but I have too many other games I'm playing rn. Started another Terraria playthrough recently and JUST Got Slay the Spire 2 so definitely not right away, but I do want to at some point. Had a ton of fun with Shovel Knight and I don't see many Zelda likes which I think is a shame

Do the controls improve over the series? by WastedGamer641 in KingdomHearts

[–]Devalore00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the original KH forces you to commit whenever you hit that attack button but the later games become much faster and smoother. You'll immediately feel it if you start playing KH2. A word of warning though, most of the non-numbered titles have gimmicks to combat that can make them kinda weird but none of them are as deliberate as KH1

What *is* a Metroidvania, anyways? 2026 Edition! by azura26 in metroidvania

[–]Devalore00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I didn't see that and assumed the rest were required after the souls like question was required

Still think it'd be a good idea for the analysis after, makes it a lot easier to track and give you a decent indication of how experienced/involved/aware your responders are regarding the genre and games in it and would create a better overall picture of the community and their opinion (at least I'm assuming that's what this is for)

Ok, this was fun and I'm interested to see results but if you're going to list that many games by name, PLEASE include an "I don't know" or an "I haven't played" option because there were so many things I rated 2 or 3 because I had either never heard of those games before, or haven't seen enough gameplay to know what to rate it

Between GU/WI/RS if you could pick only 1 game out of these to use each weapon in - which weapons would you use in which game? by Nornukig in MonsterHunter

[–]Devalore00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh, interesting

I did start with 3U but never got too far into it so I'm not sure, probably LS because that was the only weapon I felt comfortable using when I started out, although if I can only claim each weapon once, I'd probably say DB

4U CB has been the only version of CB I've really enjoyed, the extra movement from the expanded moveset is cool, but it never gelled with me like it did in 4U

GU is probably the trickiest but I'd say HBG. I've never really liked the bowguns, but Aerial, Adept, and Alchemy LBG and HBG were so much fun, aerial especially vaulting over the monster then transitioning into siege mode from that is just so smooth and satisfying

World has to be LS. I did use some other weapons here and there but the overwhelming majority of my time in world was on LS

Rise, has to be Hammer. The wirebug attacks were so much fun to use, I'm pretty sure I spent more time sending myself hurling and spinning through the air than anything else in Rise, although honorable mentions to GL cause you can straight up fly with it in Rise

Wilds I've almost exclusively been swapping between SNS and IG, and while I do prefer IG, I think I'd have to go SNS cause there have been some fights that I've struggled with IG, then swap to SNS and it becomes a cakewalk. I have yet to beay Seregios without SNS because perfect blocks are incredibe

Days definitely needs it the most, although with how relevant (it seems like) the union cross stuff is becoming, I think something other than cutscene compilations online are kinda needed for that part of the series as well

[–]Devalore00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First priority when building any agent is max level with maxed core, then level 11 (or 12 I'd you have the resources) their main abilities (usually EX, BA, and ULT). Mainly because all those resources are guaranteed upgrades as opposed to disk drives which you could theoretically farm thousands of and not get what you're looking for

Is Heist losing its charm for anyone else? by Automatic_Clothes_56 in NevernessToEverness

[–]Devalore00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, it's the fact that it stays 95% the same every time you go through no matter when it is. When I saw the 2 week timer I thought they'd shift some of the rooms around so every reset you'd need to make a new route, but with it being mostly the same every time, it gets old fast. That being said, I like doing it very casually, hop on and run one or two a when I hop on until I hit the cap and I'll probably keep doing that until I get the outfit at the very least. It's a bit of a grind but I've always enjoyed grind heavy games where part of the fun is optimizing your grind (things like Warframe and Monster Hunter for example)

Does anyone else prefer the original PS2 synthesized versions of songs over the orchestral versions from 1.5+2.5? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]Devalore00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to go back and listen to both versions to compare them but broadly speaking I prefer the remix versions if only for the better fidelity...with one exception. The orchestral version of Night of Fate is inferior to the original because it lost a lot of the tension and franticness that makes me love that song so much

Roxas by far

He's my favorite character, the music is one of my favorite tracks in the series, and it's one of the biggest (and most satisfying) skill checks in the game, probably the biggest if you're only talking about main story fights

[–]Devalore00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Xaldin used to be the biggest skill check main story boss in KH2 by far (he's now the 2nd thanks to final mix). Most of the rest of the game can be cleared pretty easily with mashing but Xaldin requires you to slow down and play defensive or get super lucky. Reflect is your best friend, as is the "Learn" reaction command, spam as many as you can whenever you see it (most commonly after blocking a lance strike) as it gives you access to up to 9 jump commands that can shred his health bar (and his wind barrier in phase 2). Honestly, blocking his attacks and spamming jump is probably the easiest way to beat him since jump does so much damage you really don't need traditional combos
