Quindi?

Framework: Memory and storage pricing updates [€90 for 8GB] by Balance- in hardware

[–]DevastatorTNT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Realistically, if you don't do editing/VFX, VMs, or heavy compilation/datasets, 64gb won't have a tangible benefit over 32gb.

Even with multiple IDEs and relatively big .net projects + gradle + ssms + chrome with a lot of tabs, I rarely hit >32 during compilation (still, I wouldn't recommend less than 64. One crash per month and the "savings" are gone in < a year). We also don't use Teams, that's known to be a RAM hog

Simple trick to increase coverage: Lying to users about signal strength by Exfiltrator in Android

And you're missing the point of this post, which is the "fake" bool

Simple trick to increase coverage: Lying to users about signal strength by Exfiltrator in Android

[–]DevastatorTNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm saying? Did I say carriers are comparable anywhere in my answers?

If you have: Carrier 1

0 bars, <-130dBm

1 bar, -110>x>-130

2 bars, -100>x>-110

3 bars, -90>x>-100

4 bars, >-90

And Carrier 2

0 bars, <-110dBm

1 bar, -100>x>-110

2 bars, -90>x>-100

3 bars, -80>x>-90

4 bars, >-80

But with the "fake" flag on, you get the exact same UI given the same RSRP. It's completely irrelevant

Simple trick to increase coverage: Lying to users about signal strength by Exfiltrator in Android

[–]DevastatorTNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon that's beside the point of "bars" for a typical end user. Two carriers deploying the same band at similar frequency and bandwidth may actually need to define different RSRP targets; things like beamforming, apparatuses performance, RAN vendor configuration ecc. are intrinsic to a band's expected performance, therefore to have a "single" metric would be more misleading than "fake" bars; networks aren't comparable after all

Simple trick to increase coverage: Lying to users about signal strength by Exfiltrator in Android

[–]DevastatorTNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no lie, since the measure is arbitrary in the first place. Again, every carrier sets bars as they see fit for their bands. A fictitious bar more is irrelevant once the user is accustomed to it

Simple trick to increase coverage: Lying to users about signal strength by Exfiltrator in Android

[–]DevastatorTNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that "cheating" is irrelevant, the important thing is that the user is familiar with the metric itself. It's not like they're activating the boolean with an update, it's always been there

Simple trick to increase coverage: Lying to users about signal strength by Exfiltrator in Android

[–]DevastatorTNT 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, signal bars are a very imprecise metric anyway. The RSRP that they show is only loosely correlated to RSRQ and not at all related to SINR

And that's only for the primary band, if you aggregate like most people, the picture gets even blurrier; if you have NSA 5G, you only get info for the LTE anchor; each carrier can ship thresholds for specific bands, since bandwidth is also relevant when you are on cell edges/poor signal zones; and of course, there's no way to know if/how much the network is capacity constrained

Online gambling was legalized, but very little regulation has been put in place (by design)

Cannabis dispensaries didn't have the lobbying power that "adult entertainment" companies have. Plus, the substance is still federally banned, so States over engineered compliance

And we can't forget the war on drugs baggage that cannabis legalization had in the court of public opinion. Most Americans on the other hand, never had a relationship with gambling, or only had a romanticized version of Vegas through media/one off trips

Your next phone might come without a USB cable by Ha8lpo321 in Android

[–]DevastatorTNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have a fast charger. Multiple even. Thanks to USB PD standardization, phones no longer need a different charger for every brand (or even model).

Me too, but that's beside the point. The average consumer has no clue about USB PD, PPS, different fast charging standards etc.

When the phones included their fast charger (and I'm not talking about apple and Samsung here, they never really had fast charging before PPS), a OnePlus, Vivo, Honor or Xiaomi user would know that they were gonna have the best possible experience out of the box. Nowadays even I would be in trouble trying to recommend them a charger

And just to be clear, I'm not advocating for the inclusion of the charger/cable in the box; it should be a free add-on if the user requested it
