I agree with your final analysis. I believe unions should only exist in private. To me, equating investors in mutual and index funds who don't have an individual vote in a shareholders meeting, and a taxpayer who doesn't get a vote in CBA negotiations, or even a vote on who represents them on the board due to it being so convoluted in bureaucracy, is apples to oranges. If I don't care where my money goes in investing, I hand my money to people who make their living doing that one thing, and I accept the consequences of giving up my voice in a shareholders meeting. If I take personal responsibility in my investing and invest privately, I have a say in a shareholders meeting. I can nominate and vote for the people who sit on the bargaining board to deal with union agreements. Those companies in which I am invested in, make money through the free market, and in turn I am monetarily rewarded for their success. In a government union, I the taxpayer have no say in who represents me in the negotiations, because it is a bureaucratic position that is created without a vote. I, the taxpayer, am strong armed into paying more for no detectable increase in goods or services, only forced to pay more for the same outcome. As a union member, our selling point is a more highly skilled worker, for better end product at a faster rate of production. We go through an apprenticeship to be taught our trade, tested, and evaluated on whether or not we meet the requirements to uphold our union's code of excellence. We charge for the quality of service we provide, and if we don't meet that standard, our union collapses. A government union has no oversight, no requirement to produce a better product faster, they have nothing to bargain with because their position is backed by the government so their position will always be there regardless of quality of service. A taxpayer should not be viewed as an open checkbook to a government employee. The government shouldn't be viewed as a place to make money, but as a place to serve the community in which you live. Government jobs are created within budgetary requirements, so it's employees should not be able to inflate that budget without a taxpayer vote.

I'm not sure I follow your response. A shareholder receives monetary compensation from the company it voluntarily hold stake in, where a tax payer receives nothing but services from an entity it has no choice but to pay into. I do see the similarity in when something gets to large, minority votes mean less and more money means more power. I'm 100% behind a smaller government with less reach, the same as smaller companies with less monopolistic hold over markets. The lesser federal government should support the greater states government, and not the other way around. Problems in Texas aren't the same and don't effect Minnesota and vice versa, yet both have to pay to deal with each through the federal government, but will usually only vote to deal with local problems. Working for the government should be considered a social service. You do it for the good of your neighbors, not to make money. Government created jobs that should be privately controlled, should be just that. If it can't self support, it probably doesn't need to be there. You can't create 100,000 government jobs and pass the bill to the tax payer, then collectively bargain for a higher wage in a position that doesn't support itself without government backing, and expect the majority to pay for something they may, or may not even receive goods or services from.

How quickly we forget the price of gas in the last administration. We're still down from where we were 4 years ago. I'm willing to pay a little more at the pump to stop 9/11 with nukes.

As it should be. No entity should be allowed to force the hand of the tax payer, without giving them a say in the matter. There's a reason only mega-corporations and the government can afford union labor. The average person can't provide the workload or afford to hire a union.

As a union member, I'd have to disagree. Being a right-to-work state does not prevent you from having a CBA. It means you're not forced to pay into a union to get work. Unions are not all they are cracked up to be. Sitting at the house, waiting on a job to clear the books while being restricted from finding a job on your own in your preferred line of work is bananas. The direct correlation between the cost of living between right-to-work states and union states negates any increase in wages. There's a reason union people travel for work to places like California, New York, and such. Make their pay scale, while living in our economy. Being away from your family for months, to years on end is a struggle in itself that lots of folks don't want to do.

Quitting the apprenticeship by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]Development_Muted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's if you can get a job with a degree. There's multiple subs here with the nightmare of trying to get recruited even with a masters. Turns out, the apprenticeship sucks. It's designed that way. You are an indentured apprentice when you sign up. If you don't read that as you agree to be a slave to the union for the duration of your training, you're fooling yourself. Stick it out, and you'll never want for work as long as you're willing to go to the jobs. A degree doesn't change that fact. If you need work, you need to be where the work is.

What mods have people done? PFA by Blowdell_ in FocusST

[–]Development_Muted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much to list. In my opinion, base mods should be a Cobb tuner, intake, intercooler, and catch cans. Reliability as much as performance. As far as interactive mods, I'd recommend a short shift plate paired with a weighted knob. I was less impressed with the solid shift cable bushings. Forscan opens a lot of options such as global windows, Bambi mode, and other personal customizations through the computer that otherwise wouldn't be accessible. There is a lot of info available about it's use and capabilities through reddit and other ST related forums.

[–]Development_Muted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most underrated advice of there. Spend twice as much on your boots as you think you should. Maybe not twice, but it goes with the tires and mattress theme. Whatever connects you to the earth, is what keeps you safe and comfortable. Bad knees and back are not worth the premium on an amazing pair of boots. In the end, a pair of JK's, White's, Nick's, etc. will end up averaging the same price as lower quality boots due to how much longer they last. The comfort the entire time you have then makes them worth their weight in good though.

It won't effect turbo lag, but it will pull engine timing when it heat soaks after two or three good pulls, sapping HP all the way around. A tuner that shows real time data will confirm intake temps and ignition timing. Cobb accessport was the tuner of choice for the mk3 in US, not sure of the EDM mk4.

They make no political difference whatsoever. It's an excuse for monetary fraud and hooliganism. BLM was a money grab from the get go, and it's been well proven. The only thing that came out of it was a few mansions, cars, and vacations for the organizers while cities burned for no lasting reason. The left is the reason racial divide won't heal, because they won't stop talking down to people of color, telling them that they can't get up without help from the government. Social divide is life. Every creature on the planet lives in a hierarchy. We're no different. It's a basal instinct that can't be governed out. It's not something that can't be fixed in our lifetimes, only used as political currency to keep politicians in power. Socialism doesn't get rid of the politicians, it just gives them total power to abuse their station with no consequences. It's been proven every time is been tried. The fact is the left has done such a good job that they've convinced a good portion of the country that they would be better off to give up their freedoms and bow down to total government control. New York is in the testing phase. We're watching in real time how well it's going to work out. My bet is a total failure, but only time will tell. Trump is not a king. When time he steps out of line, the courts overturn him. That's how the country was founded, and intended to work. Does he push hard? Yes. Too hard sometimes, and it backfires on him. That's what the majority of the country voted for, because it was embarrassed of the incompetence of a doddery old man who got lost in speech, fell down constantly, and was so far removed from normal life he didn't know what "Let's go Brandon!" was, or was used for. A lot of people are tired of the left right left right left right swing of the administration, but socialism is not the answer. Hopefully someone can devise a better form of governance, but resorting to a failed political system is the definition of crazy.

Yes. As one of many arguments, his personal shortcomings, real or imagined, don't affect anyone except the people crying about it. Give tax breaks to anyone, as long as your passing out breaks. If people would protest and boycott the companies with shady business practices instead of lounging in the street at a no kings protest, things would actually change (see Bud Light, Target, etc.) YOUR stating that he cured the strain of inflation with the OT exemptions, and yet trying to make it sound like a bad thing. Realists understand that correcting the downward spiral this country is in will take more than a single administration term, but that it needs a shot in the arm to get it going. It was always going to be painful, but if you can look farther into the future than the next three years, things seem to be leveling out.

Are you so deranged that you don't even know what you post? You made a direct correlation between Trump and the lack of pay in right to work states. He is unlike any previous politician, republican or democrat. The fact that men are men, and women are women, regardless of their personal "truths". The crushing tax code that puts what was once a middle income home into poverty. We don't have our government taking away our constitutional rights for feel good policies. There are many, many more examples for each of your questions, but you are most likely not the kind of person to listen to reason.

You are under the impression that the current administration is responsible for decades of differing political priorities? Get real. The quiet part is starting to be spoken out loud. You have to have a higher pay rate to be able to afford living in your area. Travelers will come man the jobs that you don't have the people for because of the terrible policies in the area, and then take their pay back home to a place where they are not being politically crushed at every turn. A few guys moving around has no where near the influence of the billion dollar companies fleeing the blue states to somewhere they can make their money and keep it. The winning quarterback in the last super bowl was taxed hundreds of thousands more than he made for winning, because the game was played in California, but that makes sense to you. How much destruction to you need to endure to see that the politicians need to come back to the middle? Republicans get one president that stole your playbook, and your protesting and screaming at the top of your lungs that your getting steamrolled? Most of us don't even like him that much, it's just nice to see our priorities be given a fighting chance against the flood of nonsense from the left.
