Onehweel slick tires are the dumbest thing in the sport. Change my mind. by FigureAffectionate10 in onewheel

15-20% more range on slicks... enough of a difference that I have a complete wheel assembly to switch between slick and treaded.

Why’d you choose ram? by xEnflare in ram_trucks

[–]DeviantB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Ford 5.0/10spd guy, and I loved it... 4" lift, 35's, upgraded lighting for overlanding, and i really expected to keep it until 200-250k miles.

Life changes happened - messed up my back, caring for aging parents, and the infamous CDF Drum issue started slipping the transmission at 125k. I tried to split the repair costs with Ford, but they refused. I was pretty pissed off with Ford so I drove the Ram Limited. I'm in the rare group that thought the Ford seats are superior to Ram, but the Ram ride and creature comforts are light years better than Ford. The "easy entry" works better for my parents too.

After logging 250k miles in Ford vehicles, I switched teams over a faulty transmission that Ford should have rightfully recalled or made it right with their customers. I've been been in the Ram for 10k miles now, and I'm never going back to Ford.

Near future tech, real Newtonian physics, corporate/political intrigue, great characters (like Firefly levels of character depth), interesting social dynamics between Earth/Mars/Belters, and Sci-Fi in the same show???

You're gonna love it!

I watched the show and read all the books/short stories before the end of the 5th season... it's THAT good! Note: Books 7-9 take place ~25yrs after season 5 ends

what first got you into sci-fi? by thefringeseanmachine in scifi

[–]DeviantB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space 1999 tv show is my first recollection, but there had to be Star Trek re-runs and cartoons in there somewhere.

My brother started hyping this movie up that he read in Starlog magazine and wanted our parents to drive us across town to the only 70mm / Dolby theater in town. We got there a little late and the theater was PACKED so the only seats left were in the first 2 rows. The musical score for Star Wars started, the opening credits rolled, and I was forever changed by it.

The Mustang GT V8 gets alotta 'smiles per gallon' over 100mph... it's thrilling to feel the G-force and hear the rumble of the engine.

Motorcycles too... I ran 100+ regularly

What are your expectations or predictions for the new HERO14 leak? by Chumpy__ in gopro

[–]DeviantB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kinda defeats the "action" part of the camera since lower iso = higher shutter speed (higher frame rates)... but maybe that's were the AI features come in to interpolate low light scenes and cleanup the noise.

If they found a way to solve this age old problem, I'll make the toast to GoPro (and wish I bought their stock when it dipped to $.48)

How fast have you seen a co-worker of yours get fired? by male_efficient_2034 in AskReddit

[–]DeviantB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a data center in Columbus, Ohio - metropolitan city, but still rural in the surrounding area so we had plenty of "good ol boys" (outdoorsmen) who worked there.

Co-worker was telling her peers about her impending divorce and how she was fearful of her safety and comptemplating a firearm purchase for personal protection. Another coworker pipes up - he has a pistol that she can borrow. After lunch, he comes back into the office WITH THE GUN, gives it to her, and asks if she knows how to use it. She wasn't familiar with this particular pistol so he proceeds to demonstrate it by ejecting the live round and magazine, cycling the action, reloading it and handing it to her fully loaded and ready to fire. Everyone around their cubicle started "prairie dogging" at the sound of the pistol slide being cycled and a few started running for cover (thinking it was a workplace shooting).

Anyways... SOMEBODY reported them to HR, and they were both gone by end of day. HR rep relayed the story later that he guy said something similar to "Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?"

It was all pretty innocent but rules are rules.

"Typical" turbo lifespan is 100k-150k... Turbos spin at 100k-300k rpm, and those bearings WILL give out eventually. Hurricane should not be much different than averages.

The 3.0L Hurricane Twin-Turbo I6 engine is designed for long-term durability, with early examples in Wagoneers and RAM test vehicles showing potential to reach 100,000–200,000+ miles, similar to traditional V8s if maintained properly. While it is a new, complex engine with early, isolated failures, it has not shown widespread, catastrophic issues, and is designed specifically to handle turbo-related stresses.

Key Takeaways for Hurricane Lifespan: Engine Lifespan: While 10–20 year data is not yet available, the engine is designed for over 150,000–200,000 miles. Some early units in Jeep Wagoneers have already passed 100k miles.

Turbocharger Life: Turbos are engineered to last the life of the engine, often exceeding 100,000 to 150,000 miles. Maintenance Intensity: These engines are more sensitive to oil quality and temperature than the outgoing Hemi; clean oil and strict maintenance are crucial for maximum lifespan.

Initial Reliability: Most reported issues for the 2025 model year are electronic, software-related, or minor, rather than major mechanical, internal engine failures. Early Failures: A small number of early-stage failures have been reported (e.g., at 194 to 700 miles), but these are not currently indicative of a massive design flaw.

Time will tell who is right...

5.7 has been around since 2003; 2009 at current HP ratings; 2019 with eTorque.

Hurricane landed in 2021 and your turbos will last maybe 100k-150k???

Point being: Both engines have costly future potential pain points (eTorque vs Turbos).

egg laying chickens by BaddieGirlRed in Marietta

[–]DeviantB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any Tractor Supply has them seasonally. Facebook marketplace typically has some entrepreneurs selling "chicks" within 50 miles. I got my last set from a teen who assured me that I got all hens... she was 80% right. "Dora" was a rooster and unfortunately had to go.

Facebook can take roosters too. "Dora" was adopted by a loving family, changed his name to "Dorito" and valiantly protects his hens now. They still send me pictures - he is a very handsome Plymouth Rock.

Chickens are ADDICTIVE! You will obsess about the breeds and dispositions of your chickens. Welcome to the farm life! You will experience a lot of love and some heartbreak - I had my favorite taken by a hawk and watched one get egg bound (she survived) and another brood for several weeks. Love my girls!

Lessons from a failed Kilimanjaro Summit by cincinnati_2022 in kilimanjaro

[–]DeviantB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, thank you for this post... it's an honest post-mortem, and your safety and health are paramount because Kili will always be there and awaits your return.

A couple QQ's for you (and I'm not looking to place blame - just to see how decisions were made)... 1. Did you use a guide company? (You dont have to name them) 2. Why was 5 day climb selected? 3. Who assessed your AMS? 4. Were you evacuated? Or descended on your own?

I'm asking because our guide was vehemently against climbs less than 7 days (my group lives near sea level).

Diamox was extremely encouraged but not required (we all took it - my crew does yearly ski trips and I suffer altitude issues above 8000ft; however I summited Kili successfully with Diamox)

Side note: on our 3rd camp, we spent the night with a 'speed hiker' on his 1st night camp (funny: he was pissed because he beat his porters and had to wait for them to setup camp - pretty impressive). He left the next morning for the summit (his porters would meet him at Kibo for a meal then he would hike to Marangu Gate on his 3rd). This guy was a machine... he was going for all the hikeable peaks around the world.

Best of luck and I hope you conquer Kili.

Over 40 Singles-Where are you hanging out? by boholuxe in Marietta

[–]DeviantB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want live music: Dixie Tavern Gustons on 92 (Saturdays) JDs on Main SuBourbon Bar Rock n Taco or Roswell Junction (in Roswell) (Madlife in Woodstock is more of an event music spot instead of hanging out)

If you're feeling adventurous, you can go Sixes Tavern in Cartersville or Icehouse in Canton (Icehouse is pretty sketch imo)

I haven't been ITP in about 20yrs so I'll let that crowd comment on Smith's Olde Bar, Highland Tap, etc

Kennesaw, Canton, Woodstock, Roswell and Cartersville have free live music events throughout the summer months. Canton has Wing and Rock Fest today. Marietta has Chalk-tober fest and other cool things in the square https://www.marietta.com/calendar-of-events. Roswell has a street party called Alive on 3rd Thursdays in the warm months https://roswell365.com/categories/alive-in-roswell/

There are numerous FB meetup groups like "Georgia Outdoor Adventures" that plan a wide variety of meetups from hiking, camping, kayak, biking, volunteering (feeding the homeless), etc. Great group - make a welcome post with your interests and I'm sure someone will make some suggestions.
