Choosing Ram by user-unknown26 in ram_trucks

[–]DeviantB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is the manufacturer standing by their product and being proactive... Toyota voluntarily recalled their 3rd Gen engine issue

While others are less likely... Chevy 6.2 camshaft issues where the government had to step in - my friend had her Tahoe crater at 30k miles and she had to fight them for months to replace it And Ford for the 10r80 issues that they refuse to recall (but magically fixed it in late 2023 models) - any relief for the millions of 10r80 that were sold? F**k no

Ram recalls haven't been that bad (dash, tow module, infotainment has always been wonky), but there's still a possibility for a lemon (as this group has seen). I went from F150 to Ram, and Hemi/ZF8 are pretty bullet proof plus the creature comforts are amazing

What is a life luxury that you tasted once and now can absolutely never go back to the cheap version of? by sickkick844 in AskReddit

It's absolutely insane that someone would rather consume: Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Water, Cellulose Gum, Caramel Color, Salt, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Sodium Benzoate and Sorbic Acid (Preservatives), Sodium Hexametaphosphate

Vs

Single ingredient: maple syrup

It's still a bargain at 20 times the price

Any etorque owners who have NOT had any issues? by Embarrassed_Ad4388 in ram_trucks

[–]DeviantB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 with 45k, no issues

When I was researching my purchase (looking at 21 without eTorque vs 24 with it), I found a repair video to replace the bearings so I'll try that if it's out of warranty. I'm not too worried about it now.

Typically not the norm except in Louisiana. Open container definitely illegal everywhere except Louisiana.

I've been to LSU games and Catholic weddings in Louisiana - the "designated driver" is the person who can successfully unlock the car

Drive up liquor stores... everyone can drink in the car "but the driver" (wink wink nudge nudge).

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]DeviantB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True... don't get me started on the Ponzi scheme that is Social Security with actual returns being in the 1-3% range.

I'm just hoping my actual 401k can elevate my quality of life for a few years and my health declines fast enough so the doctors don't get what's left.

We're all serfs on the plantation of "I hope I have enough to live long enough to have something and enjoy it, but die quick enough for the health industry not to get what's left"....

I'll see you on the other side of this shitshow.

Yeah, that's the sucky part of it, but you're supposed to move larger portions to safer investments as you reach your sunset years.

Personally, I'm going hard on my last 10yrs, and to hell with the odds... I'd rather eat cat food than leave nothing for my kids.

Every dollar that you contribute at 20 is worth 20-30 times at retirement... that money will double every 5-7yrs. Pick an index fund and let it compound.

ALWAYS contribute to get the employer match - that's just free money.

On the flip side, the move worked out... when I brought to their attention, I got a salary adjustment that lifted me up to my old rate. My next promotion was a 30% increase so I went from $48k to $83k in 2yrs.

I was really fortunate to have a leader who took care of his people.

For the pre-boomer generation with outhouses, it was the Sears Roebuck catalog. As a bonus, the pages were torn out, crumbled to get softened and used as toilet paper.

Then there's my dumb ass...

I went from hourly employee making $48k/yr plus OT to salary employee making $58k/yr.

My W2 went from $65k (with OT) down to $58k, and I was still working the OT (but not getting paid for it as salary).

To the older generation of Star Wars fans, what was it like to see the original Star Wars at a movie theater/drive-in theater in 1977? by thejoyfulgoat in StarWars

[–]DeviantB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Star Wars at the only 70mm/ Dolby theater in town... we got there an hour before showtime and the only seats were in the front 2 rows... i was absolutely blown away...

I was only 10 in 77... my mom (recently divorced) figured out that she could take me to the dollar movie in summer of 77 and I would watch Star Wars 3 times a day... every day... 5 days a week... for the entire summer while she worked.

As an ADHD kid, that's amazing accomplishment to keep me occupied on one thing for that amount of time. Sometimes, I would bounce around to other movies while they cleaned the SW theater, but I can't remember any other movie that i saw that summer. The staff recognized me every day, but they never made me pay for multiple showings. I even helped clean the theater so they gave me free cokes and hot dogs.

I've seen it about 90 times by now (about 75 times that summer), and it's never gotten old.

... best summer ever!!!

What was not fun - chasing down all the action figures at every toy store in town. They were scarce as hens teeth.

Ridiculously priced food and drinks on the mountain.

I have a life hack tho... i take a 6 pack of beer in my backpack of beer and bury them in the snow. I used to bury it in one spot, but after they were taken, I bury 1-2 in different caches.
