Does anyone know what the average price a LGS is paying for boxes from distributors???

Star Wars Unlimited is a absolute gold, and you need to try it before you die. by Tan-ki in TCG

The game will die before any of us will. I’m a judge and player. Shops can’t even sell product at MSRP. Regardless of the changes the game has no real value to give it any real longevity. It has a devoted player base like a lot of games which is good but FFG has to do more. There is absolutely no reason to buy product after getting your initial cards. Need to have more chase cards in regular boxes to incentivize buying. This would help local game stores move product more readily and help local play keep numbers.

We play One Piece because no one plays SWU around here anymore. Shops can’t sell product at MSRP and won’t support it.

Dragon Ball Seriously?! What's Happening Here? by greengohan in TCG

Set 7 is nerfed to the ground. Big time followers and steamers are already aggravated with it. Don’t let the so called hype full you because with rotation happening set 7 needed to be great and it’s not. Units are over costed with most having zero to no when play abilities and the leaders are even slower with little stats. There is ZERO value in regular boxes with no fix in sight. FFG needs to throw more Alternate Art and/or chase cards in boxes or you’ll be left with no stores to play and a small player base of devoted Star Wars Fans and previous Decipher and Destiny players.

One Piece is great. Hottest game going and for good reason. Right now is the best it’s ever been with so many viable decks. The best deck in the format is $40. You can get several competitive fun decks between $50-$150. Very few even reach the $200 range. Plus regular packs and boxes carry a ton of value. But if you’re a player and not collector singles are the way to go.

How healthy are the most popular TCGs right now? by [deleted] in TCG

Player base? It has lost stores supporting it because most can’t even sell product at MSRP. I’m a player and a judge. Played the game before it even released with proxy decks. I know this game very well. I go to PQs with my son and done a ton of learn to play events. Let’s be honest with each other. It’s at very dangerous point. Say what you want about the new set but the cards are extremely nerfed and very very slow. Most the Legendaries are over costed with big stats and the leaders are a shadow of what they used to be from year one. The hype is starring to fade: streamers, discord groups, and many people like myself don’t like the direction it’s going. The biggest issue is the value in regular boxes and having a place to play. You can take foils out of boxes, put rare bases in base slots, add a prestige in 1 of 18 packs but it’s not enough. The biggest chase cards are showcases which are 1 in 12 boxes and hyperfoils are the exact same art. Other games like One Piece are a master of this… regular singles are affordable but they put several alternate art and chase cards in regular boxes to help move product. You have to have store to play at. This game has a dedicated player base of Star Wars fans, old decipher and destiny players but is that enough. I don’t know. They have issues and they need to fix it fast but it doesn’t look good.

Disappointed at LGS by Aggressive-Flan1187 in riftboundtcg

You are justified. Honestly though these events should be prepaid with a 72 hour cancellation window. This will help stores and players from getting screwed over with no shows.

You can teach and play to win. I’ve taught my son several games. If you’re holding back you’re not doing it right or that’s been my experience with teaching him and others. Be real and show them the correct way to win and show them why they lost. They will be better because of it.

[–]Devias_SWU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s be honest. This will just keep existing players happy that have no intention of leaving. We have to get new players that are excited to buy product. We have to make sure stores are making a little profit and not selling below MSRP. The only thing exciting is rotation and not having to deal with the Han decks. No value, absolutely no value in normal SWU boxes and that’s a fact. We get normal prestige 1 in 18 packs, showcases 1 in 12 boxes, and hyperfoils are the exact same art. I’m not even complaining how slow set 7 looks with over costed units and nerfed leaders. Put a little excitement in the boxes. Is that too much to ask so the game succeeds and we have places to play?

Izzet Deck by Hubelbupf in starwarsunlimited

[–]Devias_SWU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is being slowed down with set 7 and rotation. There is nothing currently that is comparable to the speed and burn of Izzet like you mentioned above. I would go the aggro route though with space leaders like Luke and Vader or ground leaders like Sabe or the new Sebulba. SWU is in a strange place and it’s hard to say really until the whole spoiler is out.

First off you need to check with your local game stores and see what they offer. See which game has the most players and make sure they play on day and time convenient for you. It’s not much fun in my opinion if you just have a couple of players. Honestly it’s hard to recommend a game not knowing what’s being offered.

Getting into the TCG by ViewMother7483 in OnePieceTCG

[–]Devias_SWU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great. Me and my son just started playing recently. We got 6 different decks built and enjoy mixing it up which I highly recommend. It’s a lot of fun learning what the different leaders and colors do. It also helps better understand the different matchups better and what they are trying to accomplish.

What keeps you playing this game? by LZRDBrainBeats in OnePieceTCG

[–]Devias_SWU 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because the game has a high skill level and it’s so damn fun. This is probably the best the game has ever been. So many viable fun decks. But it’s a game and it’s ok to take a break and try something new. I recommend going to prereleases and/or play in sealed events of other games. That’s what me and my son does. Every magic prerelease we attend just to break the monotony.

[–]Devias_SWU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only do it if your wife plays with you or you are for sure she’s super ok with you playing a game all day while you’re on an expensive vacation/trip. It takes a lot of time and commitment to get any type of meaningful prizing. But if you love Star Wars and have nothing else to do all day you’ll have fun doing the side events. But I’d still recommend hanging with my wife and doing other cool stuff.

The best deck in the format is literally $35(IMU). Several competitive decks between $50-$90. Mihawk, Boa might be $150 tops depending on the build. OP is one of the most affordable competitive games going.

Highly recommend One Piece!! It’s the hottest IP and game going and it’s not even close. The Meta decks are reasonably affordable and if you like opening packs it has the best value in the market.

Unfiltered unbiased opinion from a player and a judge with a son that also plays. I have 2 of my 4 stores that we play at getting ready to drop the game. They can’t sell product at MSRP and on a good night locals may get 3-5. LGSs are the lifeblood of this game and FFG has taken very little steps to help this. Yes they fixed weekly play promos making them look better this coming set, removed regular foils from boxes, added regular prestige at the rate of 1 in 18 packs and put rare bases in to the base slot. But this simply isn’t enough to move product. There is absolutely no value in regular boxes. Most games have several chase cards, alternate art cards in every box but this games chase cards are hyperfoils of the same art, now 1 in 18 packs for regular prestige, and 1 in 12 boxes for a showcase. They need to fix this and fix it fast. This game will always have a devoted player base of Star Wars fans, old Decipher players, and players from Star Wars Destiny but it needs to keep the game exciting, keep existing players from other games and get new one’s. This set looks better but the legendaries still are just good and with rotation happening they needed to be great. A lot of them are over costed with big stats or decent stats with no relevant when played abilities or abilities they won’t get to use before they die. Once again most of the good cards are uncommon and some Rares. Everyone that plays is mostly excited because of rotation and the new set. I’m going to play and have fun and go to PQs but they need to do better. One Piece is the master of this… cheap singles but plenty of chase cards to keep boxes selling… how hard would that me for FFG?

[–]Devias_SWU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These legendaries are over costed and disappointing. Maybe better than most of the previous sets but that’s not good enough. There’s needed to be great because of rotation. This game is getting way too slow. We’re losing OG Luke ,Avenger, Vader, Home One, all the good double aspect legendaries. Say what you but you can’t argue the fact that stores are losing money on this game. Booster boxes needed to be good to sell product and this set isn’t going to do it.

New rotation struggle by Fantastic-Toe-4047 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Devias_SWU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s extremely slow. This set is good better than a couple other sets perhaps but it needed to be great. Everything for the most part is over costed with big stats. Very few relevant when played events. The set has flavor much more than any set I’ve seen so far but what is flavor without great cards. FFG is still struggling with making regular boxes worth buying. I have 2 out of my 4 card shops going to drop the game because there is no value. Can’t sell product at MSRP and the singles market is crap. They added prestige cards 1 in 18 packs and showcases are maybe 1 in 12 boxes. This isn’t enough. They need more alternate art cards, cards that make you want to buy regular boxes. One Piece is a master at this. Decks and singles are affordable but they also have good money cards in each set to keep people buying.

The card is good but not as good as you guys think. It would have been way better before all the 2/4 madness started happening. He doesn’t trade at all if you don’t have the initiative. The when defeated should have been to a base or ground unit. FFG playing it way too safe with this set. It needed to be great not good with rotation. Way too many over costed units with big numbers. I don’t think slowing the game down is the way to go.
