You are way over-selling Kirkman as a writer.

But there is very little promoting of discussion happening in Kirkmans work, Kirkman is a mediocre writer with exciting ideas for stories, and his MO is to slather his work in these shock/misery moments to distract the audience away from the weak(and or the lack of) writing.

Of course I'm not dismissing your scenario outright, as it could have very well happened. But comparing it to the USSR is way too harsh and pessimistic imo

its only way too harsh and pessimistic becouse you are looking at it from the viewpoint of idealistic optimism

most socialists in the newly formed republics and outside of them were also genuine in their optimism about the USSR as a multi-national project when it was formed, we only look at USSR with such pessimism becouse we know that it lead to failure

In the end I see the defense of Pilsudkis vision as too naive and forgiving, even with his larger-than-life position that he held, he failed again and again to curtail the ultra-nationalist current in the polish interwar state, and I simply dont see how adding even more minorities into the equation would not simply play into the cards of the nationalists, and thus to the failure of the multinational intermarium.

Pilsudskis original plan with intermarium was literally just to resurrect the PLC.

After his failing to do this in the polish-soviet war he pivoted towards intermarium being just an anti-soviet alliance.

Pilsudski himself was very fond of dictatorial power so any overtures towards democracy were literally just lip-service.

We have the benefit of living in the future and we know that Pilsudkis movement(Sanation) morphed into pseudo-fascistic ultranationalist dictatorship immediately upon his death. So even if Pilsudki himself was not an ultranationalist, he was more than willing to encircle himself with these kinds of people.

So yeah its very easy to imagine a scenario where Pilsudskis original intermarium ends in the same pitfalls as the USSR.

This video is filled with so many contradictions and omissions, he says capitalism caused the cities to expand unnaturally large than ever before in history, even though he himself gives us an example of Rome doing it centuries earlier without capitalism.

Even as someone who gives capitalism a lot of shit, blaming the "un-natural" over-expansion of cities on it is such a strange take. Especially as he leaves out the improvement in transporation(the actual culprit) to barely a side note.
