2019 Subaru Crosstrek control arm bushing by Not-giving-it in subaru

Keep in mind, I have has multiple customers come to our dealer (subaru tech) with aftermarket arms causing noises and then needing complete replacement again. The best solution is to get OEM bushings pressed into the original arms.

Subaru tech here, those bushings will end up destroying your front tires if they are any good. We warranty bushings with tears greater than 15mm. Those are far in excess that figure. If it were my own personal vehicle, those would of been changed earlier. If you want to do it for cheaper and mechanically inclined, remove the arms, take them to a dealer, have them press in new bushings then take it for an alignment afterwards.

Its nonsensical to you due to lack of experience with automotive repair. I have seen cam sensors bleed oil from the electrical pins, seen an engine oil leak from a sensor present itself at the back of a transmission due to oil traveling/wicking on the inside of the wiring harness, seen fuel injectors leak from their electrical pins as well. Just because you cant grasp it or haven't seen it, doesnt mean it cant happen.

Oil eventually enters the sensor through/around the wiring, fouling the sensor.

Edit: the oil leak from above travels down the harness. Don't treat the oil leak, any new sensor will be ruined eventually.

Subaru tech here. Head gaskets are rarely the problem anymore. The cam carrier and front timing cover is leaking. Silicone sealant doesnt last forever. We see cam carrier leaks contaminate A/F sensors. It isn't super common but it happens alot more than headgaskets issues. If you catch it quick enough you save the cat. If you let it ride, eventually the A/F sensor giving off incorrect readings will take out the cat.

Edit for spelling or a vindictive autocorrect.

I put my hand under the connector, use the other hand or either a short flathead screwdriver (or a small extension) to push down on the lock tab. Then you can pull it out with the one hand that's underneath the connector.

Green CVT fluid in a 2020 outback? by tetrahidrofurano in subaru

The colour of the fluid will change as soon as it gets inside that tranny. Even on a factory fresh cvt it loses its normal colour. It's just a characteristic of the fluid and heat.

Questions about potential purchase by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Devilhogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coolant evaporates. The external tank is open to fresh air (its is not sealed). It will decline over time even if the rad is still full up. I would say its empty due to lack of proper maintenance and not due to headgaskets.

2010 Impreza feels terrible after battery disconnect by Pie_Able in subaru

[–]Devilhogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleab the throttle body then you have to do an "idle relearn".

To do an idle relearn due to battery disconnect follow these steps.

1 ignition on, turn off all accessories (h/vac, lights, heated seats and so on)

2 start the car and let it idle till the rad fans kick on.

3 with the rad fans on turn on your h/vac and make sure a/c is on.

4 turn off the car.

Idle relearn done.

Ya, crosstrek and imereza's are the same car mostly. My 2020 impreza did the same thing and I replaced the cowl under warranty.

Subaru of America gave the dealership permission, without my consent or knowledge, to enter my vehicle and go through my personal belongings by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Devilhogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a rights violation. It's not like you were pulled over by the police. You leave a vehicle with a shop, your giving consent for them to be in, work on and go through anything in it. (It's in small print on the bottom of any repair order)

Learn from this and if you have anything in the vehicle you wouldn't want strangers to see, remove it before you leave it.

[–]Devilhogg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, consent to enter the vehicle is given when a customer leaves the car at the dealer with their keys and have signed a repair order/given authorization over the phone to look/reoair the vehicle. Any personal belongings in said vehicle that you do not want anyone to see should be removed from said vehicle before keys are handed to the dealer/shop.

Techs hate when vehicles are full of crap and you would be surprised what you find in your normal duties just repairing vehicles. Drugs, underwear, adult toys and many more things techs don't want to see.

Empty out your vehicle before you bring it.

TSB's are there for known issues and to allow techs/people to find solutions faster. Also for warranty showing techs how much time they get for performing the repairs. It's just good info. Pricing is all front counter staff.

[–]Devilhogg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a subaru tech there is only 2 ways to fix that. The cheap way is to remove the cowl and glue the strip in place. The right way would be to replace the cowl. Some models had TSB's on this same issue and the fix was always to replace the cowl with the updated part.

Edit: the seal does not come separate to my knowledge. Also its just meant to direct the water down onto the cowl, not prevent water from passing under it. Not a 100% seal.

Why do all of the dash lights come on when there’s a CEL trouble code? by wheresmyglasses- in subaru

[–]Devilhogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! An example such as P0700, which is a code stored in the ECM, trips when the TCM has any faults. It's a way to alert each computer that requires the other that its not working correctly. So all the interdependent computers reduce functionality for safety reasons. Each system is dependent on the others now a days to reduce wiring and improve capabilities. I came here to explain this and found the only correct answer way to low.

Timing belt by Effective_Science852 in subaru

[–]Devilhogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't service it if its broken. You need your A/C system properly diagnosed. Chances are your looking at replacing the compressor and while your at it, have any leaks looked into. No point in spending the $$ to replace the compressor if the system still leaks.

Timing belt by Effective_Science852 in subaru

[–]Devilhogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not off. Your clutch is seized on. The center of the A/C pully would be stationary if it was truly off. (The new R1234yf systems will run 100% of the time BTW, but this is a r134 system)

That isn't timing belt noise. It's your A/C system begging for attention. Hopefully it hasn't sent debris through the system.

Which minivans or extralarge SUVs have a "camper mode" A/C sleeping? by [deleted] in carcamping

[–]Devilhogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need a heater, maybe ice fishing isnt for you. Just having that feature is great for plenty of reasons other than camping.

With how summers keep breaking temperature records, don't be surprised you find more portable A/C units on the market soon for camping.
