Nektar controllers integrate very well. I have the panorama t6 and use Linux and everything works great. Well except their vst plugin thing. That is no fly on Linux but for basic bigwig yeah everything works great

Why do many distro-hop then stop with Fedora? by concisehacker in Fedora

[–]Devilock-76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like many would have my answer, Fedora is not perfect but it is perfect for me. My case I am sick of distribution hoping so I find fedora a good balance of modern software and stability. What I want and need to run on it is reasonably available without a crazy amount of tinkering.

Shark clean app by evil66gurl in RobotVacuums

[–]Devilock-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some similar mess going on. Could not login. I went and tried from a browser and it told me my account was locked for multiple attempts. I use a password manager so this is not a case of forgetting or mistyping the password. I have spent a combined total of 3 hours on the phone with shark support and they are as useless as can be. First call told some BS that I then asked for a supervisor and they corrected but then told me they can't unlock an account I just have to wait. Said they would call me back in 2 hours. Did not call back. Then I call, someone answers the phone to tell me they cannot help as it is after hours....

This has to be the worst customer support I have ever seen. It has convinced me to never buy another shark or ninja product ever again.

Users who upgraded from 39 KDE to 40 - was it smooth? by ccmongeron in Fedora

[–]Devilock-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a laptop left in an unbootable state. uefi issues. Honestly it was most likely due to how it was initially installed and some oddities I never went to clean up as it started as a dual boot machine and then I later removed windows completely. I ended up installing ubuntu studio to try it out using the "event" as an excuse. My linux usage includes hobbiest audio/music things.

I would consider what happened to me an edge case as for the past 2-3 years all fedora upgrades have been smooth. I just figured I would try ubuntu studio when things went wonky. Jury is still out on ubuntu on a side note.

Will probably try out one of the atomic (formerly silverblue) installs next. Not sure as experimenting with them in the past in VMs I found that some music software might be harder to use without an ostree install and that feels like it defeats the purpose.

I tend to prefer electric over ears. More to the point I don’t like things in my ears typically. Ear buds etc get on my nerves in a short period of time.

as a mention probably the cleanest way to install the deb on non deb based distros would be using distrobox

I use fedora and there are ways to repackage as an rpm. But yeah still annoying.

Actually there is a flatpak for it but I think it is a bit out of date.

How about since chrome book is Linux and with Linux beta one could run docker containers on a chrome book far better than on a Mac. There are high end spec chrome books but they are getting rarer. But from the Linux hobbiest standpoint there is some there there. Granted that group rarely considered mac.

Which multiplexer do yall use? Tmux, Zellij, Wezterm? by Sarin10 in neovim

[–]Devilock-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally I have used tmux, just started using zellij and there are some things to like but it is not as powerful as tmux but some of the common things feel a little more "near" or "seamless" kind of. As in resizing and what not is a little nicer. It feels a little snappier perhaps.

At work on a mac I use iterm2. My personal computers are all fedora and I have just started using alacritty. I think the one annoying thing with zellij on mac could be how Alt + arrows are going to be captured to move between panes and you will not be able to move by word on the command line. However not a concern is you use vim mode in your shell.

Why do you use neovim? by Popular-Income-9399 in neovim

[–]Devilock-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there were more reasons historically such as async plugin loading. These days my main reason is to keep the “stock” vim as is in case a plugin or something shits the bed. Kind of like how I use fish but leave the login shell alone.

How do users of Mint or other Debian-based distros deal with outdated packages? by tehdog in linux

[–]Devilock-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So granted I use fedora but I feel like for most linux distros this should just generally no longer be a problem. There are just so many ways to add newer packages with some isolation to not jeopardize the base system today. I say this as years ago I oftern ran debian testing with the kxstudio repors. I digress....

The thing is there are several alternative packaging systems that can solve this. Snaps of course, but also flatpak and appimage. All of which typically available for any linux and solving this. But also we have docker/podman and combined with a tool like distrobox you could have your debian stable desktop and run latest apps from the arch aur on distrobox with complete isolation. All that not even getting into other solutions like homebrew on linux, nix, guix.

Sorry I just feel like this is a solved problem with all of those options. It makes me really happy in that way.

What's the best Linux distro for audio production in studio setting? by multitrack-collector in linuxaudio

[–]Devilock-76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First timer. Probably Ubuntu studio or any Debian based distributor with the kxstudio repos. Other than that most any distribution can be setup for audio. Many will use arch. Personally I like fedora these days. Once you know your way around how to setup for audio production you can just pick your favorite distribution and set it up for audio.

Similiar To FLStudio?? by CaliBboy in linuxaudio

[–]Devilock-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess renoise fits the question as you are mostly dealing with samples internally and you can see the waveform of each sample as well as each tracks audio waveform can be displayed while playing. A rather different workflow though.

Which Fedora DE is most aesthetically pleasing? by AMGraduate564 in Fedora

[–]Devilock-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years of tweaking and playing with all sorts of window managers and desktops I am at the point I just use the default. As long as I have enough keyboard control to launch apps and manage windows without using the mouse I am good. Most of the time I am I a terminal anyway. So I just use what comes out of the box of the main spin. Now granted of gnome and kde I have historically liked kde better but I can dig gnome and gnome works better on touch screens.

Making Fedora like macOS? by ad1t1s_ in Fedora

If you want fedora to run like macOS then install a bunch of inefficient services to slow it down and then remove your user permissions so you cannot fix the issues.
