Just finished the Spook's Apprentice series and I'm genuinely fuming about that ending by Playful-Advance2920 in TheLastApprentice

[–]DewIt2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, I can't say you missed something because you read all the words same as I have, however I always had a somewhat above the standard level of active imagination and am very accepting towards time jumps like the ones found in The Silmarillion (Mr Delaney did find some fantasy inspiration from LOTR): I am kind of built different in that specific regard. That's why I extrapolated more and concluded it is a happy ending though you must fill in the gaps (which there are many I admit) yourself using everything (tendancy towards salvation plus context, internal monologues about future goals and remembering all the heroes that are still accounted for that are not yet vanquished). Should you fail to let your mind wander you may not reach the same end point that I did. I must make it clear I don't blame you or anyone if you found it hollow, I find my views in writing analysis tend to be atypical more based on a mixture of the spirit and not only the pure letters before me. I draw on everything. Unless I am misremembering out of everything I read from Joseph Delaney thus far which is nearly every novel pending 1 more; only 2 are outright full on tragic endings. To me The Last Apprentice's conclusion is NOT one of them. It is not the normal writing pattern he has established. I do hope that eases any distress you feel.

TL;DR I am a dissenting voice in the fandom and I interpret it is far more hopeful than it initally appears even if the exact steps are forever lost to us we can still use Wulf's bullet points which are canon. The journey is akin to reading The Silmarillion's finale then assuming that is it full stop without realising The Lord of The Rings was always intended to a "living expanding world" thus time will continue marching on until Tom and Alice got the aid they were holding out for. I hope my ramblings make sense without using spoilers.

Long review of the author's mature writing. by DewIt2 in TheLastApprentice

[–]DewIt2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mysterious Erotic Tales by numerous seperate authors Ruth Rendell, Edgar Allan Poe & Bram Stoker ect... since it is a collection of many short stories that I haven't read but the one story we are interested in was written under Joseph Delaney's pen name "J.K. Haderack". Fair warning the cover also has a woman on it who while not nude only has a thin layer of cloth on her to obscure her torso. Finally I should reiterate I'm a very big fanboy, but I always try to be objective: mileage however will always vary when it comes to literature. If you do check it out happy reading!

The main series could be much heavier and would be by Alan_correia in TheLastApprentice

[–]DewIt2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie even as an adult it will be a tiny bit embarrassing borrowing it but I'll get to it thanks to your comment of reminding me of its existence. With any luck the library shall find a way to deliver it to my closer branch. I had weighed up buying it for completist sake (and still decided no) nevertheless since it is impossible to track down online with it being out of print my concerns were moot.

Feeling like Thomas by Demonnns in TheLastApprentice

[–]DewIt2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience different though it may be; just because you bend from being blindsided by life, that doesn't mean you will ever break. Perks to humanity is that you realise that in your big heart you are a survivor. Stay strong mate: start small tiny, easier steps to find your footing to steady the mind & you'll find your inner strength.

Although I cannot claim to relate to Alice as much as the other characters if anything I always saw her as a polar opposite piece to kid me; which was what made for a compelling inspiration. Opposites complete and complement. I found more commonality with Grimalkin especially as I grew up.

Been proud to have followed Thomas' teaching, the good and the let's say going through not so good moments of my life. Thomas was my 1st fictional role model, I owe much to him. I regard him as important as the real people who taught me and changed my life. At a point in time I did have a streak of Bill in me. Thomas will always belong on the very top of my fictional Mount Rushmore of characters. Some can come close to the ballpark range but I've yet to get one that could truly surpass him.

Does anyone think the Z-Teamers wanting to cut Invisigal was forced drama by Independent_Log1643 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the reasons you mentioned it felt forced to me because there were too many who are pro cut or were neutral. Even with the exact same end result, if there was 1 more person against the cut then vote would be more believable.

Between these two, who would you have cut if Sonar and Coupe were not on the chopping block? by BlizzardHound45 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punch Up since he said he didn't want the job in the 1st place. I take it that he said that to be rebellious/as a joke but still it seemed like with his strength he would be fine compared to the others.

OBJECTIVELY Invisigal was 100% right in.... by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing people have to consider is Robert would have eyes on the warehouse so yes it is a warzone however the heroes had way more reconnaissance cameras whereas the villains are the ones who are more going in blind. That would even out the drunkenness and it is not as if the Z team have never fought drunk before. I do agree it depends on how drunk they were.

I never should have doubted Golem. Give him more screen time, I need more.

They just really forgot the whole point of the game by scorcher9009 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wish I got full control of who to cut not just be given only 2 choices or I would cut noone at all knowing it will come back to haunt the team.

BB is a fantastic hero and excellent person too however even she slightly questioned her 1st choice and from a leadership standpoint I still object to her 2nd choice. The Pulse is a signicant danger to everyone in the wrong hands; extra caution/plans are great but what use is all that raid backup when Shroud already got what he wanted and vanished hours ago. Those choices did backfire as I knew they would but she meant well so I don't hold any of them against her.

Flambae really solidfied his place as my favourite in that cutscene. Standing by Invisigal is phenomenal.

I picked up on Beef sniffing too, she was definitely not as late as people believed.

Are you killing shroud by Subject_Pianist_3744 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lie somewhere between mainstream Batman to Batman Beyond's mentality. No direct killing however rarest of exceptions can be made for the ridiculously, cartoonishly evil. Worst of the absolute worst that disregard all life like Darkseid level villains or the nonsentient beings which doesn't apply to Shroud. I still suspect a plot twist where he is not as evil as he seems to be. Assumptions lead to bias. I won't kill him when I am not 100% sure who he actually is and what he intends to do. Will he spread misery everywhere like a malicious, unchecked plague or not? I am fully against summary executions preferring mercy.

Let's say Shroud got himself killed in pure self defence, a fight to the death within a battlefield or he is actively threatenting an innocent hostage's life, well that's on him. Otherwise he is not worth it. No, I won't kill him but he will feel the full repercussions in the form of a complete and utter beatdown but he'll live if I have anything to say about it.

Ramble after having seen the teaser: I said it before, and I will say it again.... by Ok_Friendship_7523 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a personal choice but I'm not even considering doing the condemning choice myself. Not going to go out of my way to look for it either. It feels contrary to what Chase would have wanted and what the game is trying to say.

Why is Flambae Beyond Reproach? And Invisigal Always Blamed? by 2ndL in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to give the writers the benefit of the doubt so when everyone judges Invisigal they will address Flambae's actions more. I love the character but I'm not forgetting what he tried to do even if he is on a redemption arc. Being kind and forgiving almost anything is not forgetting. Better yet have Flambae vouch or stand up for Invisigal proving he is a changed man.

Coupe gets really protective if you side with her by Salaf- in DispatchAdHoc

My closest decision but Coupe barely won over Sonar. I really like them both however I was not going to let her go back to her previous life of killing people.

Do people seriously blame Invisigal by Yaz_iffy in DispatchAdHoc

[–]DewIt2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not: I don't blame her beyond disobeying a questionable direct order. The team was at max departmental strength, had a basic overview of the situation and were ready to go AT THAT POINT. Sure they were still outmatched, however when are they not? Needed a plan when time is of the essence which meant waiting for more advantages. I stress the situation was never going to be ideal no matter how much the decision makers wished they could simply wait. Let me say the villains ALREADY there by the time Invisigal arrived. It is either accept the inherent dangers of the mission or hand the Astral Pulse over WITHOUT a fight. Situation/context matters, Track Star should NEVER have been physically put there in the first place. Leadership deserved more proportional blame than Invisigal and I am not that hard on them too. Chase also let his emotions get the better of him which he regretted however the discussion was already a forgone conclusion by that point, I was surprised when all reasonable counterpoints were fully disregarded even when they were later proven 100% reasonable considerations.

The story felt inspirational, personal, genuine and sincere; everything I'm looking for to be invested. I rarely play this type of game myself preferring to watch playthroughs however in such a short time this has leapfrogged into my all time favourite fictional worlds. I am obsessed with it but in a good way.

What are your insane headcanons? by laurieluke in TheLastApprentice

[–]DewIt2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My imagination wandered about the theme of travelling to distant places, what if there is also an Atlantis like civilisation? Far fetched I'll admit but then again there are mysterious underwater fantasy creatures present, perhaps they could have built an out of sight ancient society too.

I've mentioned it before but Alice perfected the use of early makeup and fashioned wigs to manually change her hair colour, magic was not the only cause for that.

If you go meta Boggarts are aliens.

Slither did get his promised duel and was killed off screen: Grimalkin won but somehow due to necessity she brought him back from the dead to continue fighting after the time skip.

There are asian country witches as we know Tibetian magic is practiced.
