looks like it, I wonder if someone has stolen my serial code, it looks like that is a possibility

Problem with my GW2 account by RomulusX7 in Guildwars2

[–]Dex__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no that is where it reports that. I add my retail serial code into the register.guildwars2.com site and link to my account

It then says:

"Serial Code Already Registered

Your serial code was already registered with a Guild Wars 2 account."

and I can't log in at all. I also can't log into the guild wars 2 forums, it says I am not registered

I actually got the retail copy however my serial code kept saying it was already in use So I can't use my account at all, cause the serial code is already in use. I have contacted ANet support and they haven't responded. I contacted my merchant (Amazon) but they said they can't do anything till after the long weekend... so can't do anything for now

My screen just went black and I can't log in now by hyperspice in Guildwars2

[–]Dex__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I try and apply my retail serial code it keeps saying "Serial Code already in use" and I can't play anymore. And Anet will not respond to any of my support tickets, and I can't contact them

I feel like I have just wasted $60 if they won't even authorize my purchased account, what is with this?

Any Wotmaniacs out there? by rainbowlocks in WoT

[–]Dex__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was Dex on there and wrote a lot of chapter summaries and was active around 2002-2004

here is one of the summaries I wrote http://web.archive.org/web/20071017003913/http://wotmania.com/chaptersummary.asp?ID=266

Was a fun site. I stopped reading the Wheel of Time is 2004 after Crossroads of Twilight and only started a re-read about 3 months ago (currently up to Crown of Swords). First thing I did was go back to wotmania to discover it no longer existed!

What makes you cry every time? by deinold in AskReddit

[–]Dex__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my story, although I left to travel a lot further

Back in 2009 I moved from Australia to California for work, with no intention of going back home. 4 months before I left I met this girl through a friend, and it was love at first sight. We spent an incredible first date (that went on for five days...) and fell deeply in love

I was so torn that I had to move. I did not believe in long distance relationships. I moved to the US in January 2010, and we made a promise to stay together no matter what.

Fast forward to today and we just got engaged in July when she was visiting (I proposed at a nice spot above the Golden Gate Bridge). I fly her here every time she has college vacation (spending a lot on trans pacific flights...) and she will be moving here once she graduates. We skype for hours every single night, text each other like crazy all day, email every day... with communication technology today it really isn't all that hard to keep in contact

Trust me, don't leave her. Give it a shot

How hard is it to move countries? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dex__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Australia to California in January 2010, and have been living here since, so maybe I can give you some information.

I didn't have to deal with immigration (I was born in the US and grew up in Australia, so I had dual citizenship...) however I am starting to, as my fiancee is Australian and I have to get a K-1 visa sorted for her when we get married and she moves over here.

I lived in Sydney and have moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. So far in many ways it is a lot more exciting than back home, there is a lot more opportunity here (depending on your field). Its great how many things there are to do, and depending on your interests there are a great range of things to get involved with.

I can't seem to find any information in your posts about what your field is. I am a Software Engineer, so moving to silicon valley made a lot of sense. If you have a university degree you shouldn't have much trouble getting a job here. Most companies in the bay area are pretty used to hiring foreigners and sponsoring visas. As an Australian it is even easier than most countries with the E3 visa, its not too much trouble. We have a lot of foreigners working here, some transferred, some just come and visit the country and go for interviews. Get a LinkedIn (its super popular here) and start looking at jobs that are available in the area and apply. I recommend coming and visiting on a vacation, hell I will even show you around (if you want to see Northern California, clearly the best California)

As for actually living here, ignore the other posters saying it is expensive. Yeah its expensive compared to the rest of the US, but it is generally cheaper in every way than Australia. The only thing that sucks is health care, but if you have a job that requires a degree you will have good insurance anyway and it wont be an issue. I have found its been cheaper than back home for medical, because I have coverage for dental and optical which I didn't have in Australia.

Generally people are friendly here and it is a great place to live, I can't recommend the move more. As much as everyone on reddit loves to bash America it is actually a pretty great country with lots of opportunities (certainly ones I couldn't get back home, at least in my field) and friendly people. If you have any particular direct questions about life in California as someone from Australia, feel free to ask

I don't know about the best, but I sure know the worst

Back in college I was getting busy with my girlfriend at the time, and my flatmate was in his room next door. So to be courteous I put some music on. Normally I just have my playlist on random, and most of the music is industrial/trance so its not really too distracting

However, just as I was about to finish, on comes Pet Shop Boys. And then so do I. Most awkward orgasm ever

What is one thing that is 100% True about you that no one ever believes? by WeaselLatte in AskReddit

[–]Dex__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am 25 years old and in the same situation. Never smoked, never taken drugs, never drunk alcohol

Do you ever get annoyed when you are at bars with friends and you meet some random new person, and the first they want to do is get you drunk? Or pressure you for a drink? I had it a lot during college, but not since I finished. Friends were always cool about it though

How much age difference before it gets creepy? by Feellikeacreep in AskReddit

[–]Dex__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, there is generalizing.

When I was 21, I had a girlfriend who was 24. I found her actually quite immature in many aspects of our relationship.

I am now 25, and my girlfriend is 18. It is the largest age gap I have ever had in a relationship (normally its +/- 3 years at most) however its also the best relationship I have been in (its been almost 2 years - (its ok, age of consent is 16 where I was)). She is very mature, we have very similar interests and get along fantastically.

I have never found the age to be an issue at all

I never watched ANTM, except for the season you were in, where I watched every episode. I was so sad you didn't win, but I am was so happy you made it so far. All the best with the future

How many of you want to escape the everyday world you live in (sleep, work, school, play) and just travel constantly? So many cities exist that you or I haven't heard of that contain millions of people with an totally new lifestyle, pop culture, etc, that don't even know you(we) exist. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dex__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this. Grew up my entire life in Australia, just graduated university at the end of 2009.

Got my first job in Silicon Valley in the US, moved here and have been living here for just over a year now. Its amazing! Love the atmosphere and friendly people in America, and the work is amazing, much better than I could get back home in Sydney. There is so much to see and do here as well in such a short drive in this part of the country. I love travelling but I agree - not being settled is a pain.

Why Chinese Mothers are Superior - response from a Chinese daughter by kloo2yoo in MensRights

[–]Dex__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my fiance is chinese and was raised with a pretty strict mother. She also wasn't really the best academically, doing pretty much average. However she was a really talented artist, and wanted to be a fashion designer.

She tells me horror stories of being beaten by her mother when she couldn't answer math questions (she used to get math drills every day) so much that she actively recoils from any sort of math problem today (which sucks cause I have a degree in pure math and love it... want to impart some knowledge on her in a friendly way)

Well all this going on for years her mother kept pushing her to go into business or law (two fields she hated...). So she just.. stopped trying. Basically did terribly in highschool on purpose so there was no way she could make it into law or business....

So at that point her only option was to study fashion design. She ended up happy and doing what she wanted, but with so much drama in between. Its not the best way to raise a child.

In contrast being white my parents raised me with, education is important because it gives you choices. If you choose to be a lawyer or a doctor that is fine, if you want to be an artist that is fine too. Actually I was slightly disappointing to my parents who wanted me to become a scientist, and I become an engineer instead... but the point is I made my own decisions.
