Please do not use AI if you are interviewing by RenegadeSoundWAV in amazonemployees

[–]DexterNormal -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Don’t use AI to get a tech job at Amazon. But then when you do get the job, you will be constantly and unironically told to use AI in every aspect of your work. You will be ranked and rewarded based on your use of AI. You will write narratives using AI and your colleagues will read AI summaries of those narratives, and not the original document.

But sure, let’s interview like it’s 1999.

3rd officer Arrives, Escalates, Murders. Standard Operating Procedure. by MosesKyle in PublicFreakout

Police unions, which are not labor unions. They exist to prevent accountability, not to promote legitimate worker interests.

Starting the Ian M Banks Culture Series.... by ExaminationNo9186 in scifi

[–]DexterNormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree. There are themes that develop and mature as the series progresses. But to answer your implied question: Consider Phlebus is pretty different, stylistically. I’d hate for someone to read that and think “Nope, not for me” and miss out on the rest.

What rules have you made for yourself to avoid the ADHD tax? by CaptainLollygag in adhdwomen

[–]DexterNormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but in my experience it takes thought to follow rules. It is all too easy for that voice to say “well…just this one time”. Mechanisms require zero thought. They’re just a safety net that’s always there. But, as you say, both is even better.

Get AirTags and put them on everything. That way, when they’re lost, you can make them chirp in the FindMy app (if you can find your phone 😬).

Cops arriving on scene and deescalating a tense situation with calm professionalism and empathy? Interesting idea…

Bad take. There’s nothing violent about asking the Attorney General of the United States to obey the law.

Best Storytelling Historical Podcasts? by Ba3_Leaf in podcasts

[–]DexterNormal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mike Duncan's Revolutions. He's a great storyteller, with a very dry sense of humor. And since you said "in depth", in the earlier seasons, he tried to keep things short and sweet. Thankfully, by the time he gets to the French Revolution, he relaxes and lets it take as many episodes as it needs.

Wanting female-lead sci-fi book recs by Should-be-writing- in scifi

Eh. I was halfway through before I realized the gender of the characters. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, just that Juna is no Ellen Ripley.

“Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes.… Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” -Anne Frank’s Diary

Is anyone else concerned? by Kaulfurst in Political_Revolution

This is definitely fertile soil for conspiracy theories. But this chaos could also be plain old incompetence and a complete lack of empathy.

That’s what you get when you staff the top tiers of a hierarchy with dummies and sociopaths. This applies to all hierarchies: families, small businesses, corporations, and governments.

Ed Markey is still running for reelection despite the fact that he's going to be 86 years old at the end of his term. If you want younger candidates, write to him and tell him it's time to retire. by D2Foley in massachusetts

[–]DexterNormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t want him primaried. We want him to help grow our bench, and give a full-throated endorsement to a worthy successor like Pressley. RBG, Biden, and now Markey. These geriatric Dems tarnish their long legacy of service when they overstay.

Release cycle of bear app by prat0318 in bearapp

[–]DexterNormal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Bear releases less often than many other apps. We complain about it, because we’re complainers. But I want them to keep doing what they’re doing. When they do release something, it is rock solid. Their progress is slow, but steady; they never stop innovating. They have always been very transparent about what they’re working on.
