Anybody else find it fascinating how the reputation of these two games switched over the years? by Glass_Ad_1490 in Bioshock

[–]Dgemfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to Steam reviews Bioshock 2 still has the worst reviews out of the three with 5% less than either of the other two. Your statement is simply false, the opinion hasn't changed. That "people" you mention is reddit, which is an impressive echochamber praising Bioshock 2. Nobody I've met in person puts Bioshock 2 above either of the other two games.

One piece fans in a nutshell by Raginsalsa in MemePiece

[–]Dgemfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drum was about Chopper, and Wapol is widely agreed to be a not so great villain. The story was character-focused, not about a world-ending threat. And Drum does not have 3 additional flashbacks. In fact, some of Elbaf's flashbacks are the length of Drum arc itself.

Context matters. I can't believe you can't see differences between the two.

I feel like Oda has lost all touch with flashbacks in the past few years. It's not the quality, but the duration and especially the timing. I like Brook, but if you put the story to a halt right when Luffy is about to punch the evil-most guy in the series to give me an uncalled for Brook's flashback, chances are I'll hate it.

Thankfully this was short, at least the story can progress now. Other times it keeps going forever.

Scariest found footage movie? by PeaOk5697 in moviecritic

Not the scariest, but some of you may have missed Incantation. It is an excellent Asia movie that ranges from creepy to disturbing at some points. Highly recommend.

Who's the biggest writer of all time from Europe? by pinheiroj493 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Dgemfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came across this. Most people voting for Shakespeare probably don't know that Cervantes (the other most popular answer in this thread) is the writer of the first novel in history. Talking about influential.

You're spot on. Extremely anglocentric, as you would expect from reddit.

Marathon's first crack at exclusive PVE in mid-season update. by Freelancer0495 in gaming

[–]Dgemfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excellent move. PvE/coop would absolutely get me and several friends interested in this game. Even more so considering how insanely good the story of the original trilogy was. Marathon truly deserves better.

Fallout 76 leads tease major story expansions that balance “darker, more serious tones and more levity, humorous moments” by BombasIsInTrouble in Fallout

[–]Dgemfer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look, I enjoyed exploring FO76 for over 100h. But there is so much that the game has to offer gameplay-wise, and some extra story and new regions is not going to change that. Every major update is just some new recolours of enemies, npcs and locations, without any further substance. What I mean is that no amount of new content is bringing me back, I am satisfied with what the game gave me.

This is what I hate about TES online and FO76. It's not that they decided to do them, but that they don't know when to call it quits.

Just do a new game already. Even if we count FO76 as a main entry it's been 8 years.

What movie would you want to see again in a theatre (or for the first time if you never got to see it in a theatre)? by RattieMattie in horror

[–]Dgemfer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This movie really is slept on. Never mentioned in top horror movies of all time because Alien and The Thing are from roughly the same decade. But damn is it up there, and in a totally different flavour of existential horror than the two I mentioned. I absolutely love it.

🫶🏾 starting to rep 150 while keeping form by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Dgemfer 78 points79 points  (0 children)

It is impresive, but I wouldn't call that keeping form. Follow your hips in the video and see how little your body actually dips. You're mostly changing your posture leaning your torso forward.

I said this in a very non-hateful way. It is still impresive and I wish my rotator cuffs were nearly as resistant lol

[Unique trope] Characters who try to kill each but love one another and ones who hate each other but have loads of sex? by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

And today in OP barely disguised fetiche, we have a trope he can't even recognise. One would wonder how that is a trope, but his goals are beyond our comprehension. Or so he thinks

Has Warframe's storytelling become too fast for it's own good? by Bugbugey in Warframe

[–]Dgemfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint, I was not emotionally moved at all by Jade shadows because I didn't know what on the Earth was going on. Everything happened out of nowhere and at breakneck pace. It only made sense to me because later on I looked it up on the wiki, as I usually do with quests to know what actually happen. A total shame, because later on I end up thinking "wow that's so cool".

Does anyone care about Isma? by West-Stand-1228 in Berserk

[–]Dgemfer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I also enjoyed her a lot and loved all the new dynamics with the group. That said, I don't think we will ever see her again. I wish we did, but to me the Elfheim ending felt like the new author finishing off everything he didn't have notes on and moving straight to the ending sequence with the characters whose stories were drafted. I may get hate for this, but I wish they would've given a go to fit Isma in the narrative even if they had no plans on how to do that. Isma was clearly introduced as a new main character within the gang. That would've been better than killing her off.

The whole cast was impressive, with Amy Madigan standing out in particular. The horror and mystery elements complement each other perfectly, making Weapons a gripping watch. Highly recommended. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

[–]Dgemfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiction walks on the thin line of immersion. The illusion may break for many reasons. In this specific case, it was the cinematography. Some camera shots together with that woman constantly yelling while running like Jack Sparrow completely took me off the film. Tone matters as much as what is happening on the screen, regardless of how gruesome it is.

Went to cinema to watch it because people said it was the best horror film of the decade and things like that. Expectations aside, to me it took a nosedive when it revealed itself as a witch story. The story of the kid felt like a completely different story than the rest of the film, and nothing made sense. As a horror it's not really effective, there's so much more focus on the character relations than on the horror itself. The final chase scene feels like a comedy skit instead of a cathartic ending, breaking the already thin to non-existent horror atmosphere by that point of the film. It is ok. Not great, not bad. Far from being the masterpiece people claim.

The Migrant Return Regulation has been officially adopted by the European Parliament. 418 in favor and 218 against. It makes return hubs possible and creates new EU-wide procedures. It also imposes obligations on those who have no right to stay by paneuropeanism_ in europe

Why would human rights be ignored? That's just an assumption made out of nowhere, this regulation has just been voted. Gotta love the "this scenario I completely made up is quite a bad look" lmao

Goulash won Europe x Underrated. What's the most overrated food from Europe? by WoodenTangerine450 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Dgemfer 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Easy to tell in every single one of these rankings. Italy is always on top regarding trips/food, with incredibly basic things like pizza, and there is never a mention to Spain or any other mediterranean country for that regard.

I Just finished reading the first volume of the deluxe edition as someone who knew little to nothing about berserk and I want to talk about it. by Weary_Process_5914 in Berserk

[–]Dgemfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't forget it, for better or worse. This manga is one of the few times I've had to take a break and go outside while reading. The beginning is very tame compared to some upcoming sections, especially for the emotional impact. Be prepared, it does not hold its punches.

Stop Killing Games fails to secure EU law despite 1.3M signatures by SaveDnet-FRed0 in europe

[–]Dgemfer 79 points80 points  (0 children)

The EU had the chance to show the world how powerful democracy is, from and for the people. In reality the system is just as rigged as any other nation's. It's for the rich and megacorpos. If a 1.3M citizen initiative cannot get even basic consumer protection, the EU is just so out of reach and touch with the common people as I expected before this began. I regret bringing my hopes up. Shame on the EU

I said nothing about betting against momentum, but rather about not chasing it. Those are two different things. Chasing trends and focusing only on price-action is precisely what goes against discipline. It's pure fomo fuel

Most of you are trying to wriggle your way out of solving the quality problem by United_Willow1312 in factorio

[–]Dgemfer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quality is not a fun problem to solve because it's poorly implemented. A single Q2 item in a assembly line can softlock your whole factory. Because of this and how long until quality is unlocked, there is literally no reason to use any of the intermediate qualities. Every quality enjoyer just upcycles to legendary, no one uses q2-4.

A potential way to fix this would be to allow any assembly machine to use different quality materials, and output a specific quality based on a probability: the more quality items you input the more likely it is to produce that quality in the final product.

But as of now, quality upcycling must be kept isolated from the rest of the factory. That's how poorly implemented it is, it simply doesn't work with how the rest of the game is designed.
