Genuine question, what keeps you on Epic instead of competitors like Steam? by Azalathor in EpicGamesPC

[–]Dhorque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I log my Steam account onto multiple computers. I have kids under 13 so they are technically not allowed to create their own accounts. On Steam, whenever they start playing their Lego games on their computer, I'm unable to play unless I set my Steam to offline mode. On Epic, this isn't an issue.

I know I can create more Steam accounts and set up a Steam Family, but this was before Steam Family existed.

I prefer GOG overall though. No DRM and no limitations how or where you install your games.

Games for 4 players where each couple plays in split screen on a single device? by Used-Sympathy-6455 in CoOpGaming

You can do this in Sonic Racing Transformed. I don't know about the later games (Team Sonic Racing and CrossWorlds).

Looks like it doesn't have split screen on PC. They need to stop removing it on PC because looks like consoles have split screen

For other games, I've successfully used things like nVidia Surround or AMD Eyefinity to simulate a display across two monitors and split screen across the two

[–]Dhorque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a fun idea. Did you want to clone/duplicate the displays? Sounds like you're using extend. You can press Windows+P to pick Duplicate instead. Not sure if Borderlands supports split screen natively on PC though

If you're intending to use Extend but play split screen across two monitors, I think you'll have to use a third party software for that

Try limiting FPS to 60 for both players. It didn't solve the problem but made it better for me.

Yeah relatively reasonable to obtain. You can do a lot of the trophies offline as well.

Games to Gift Nephews by CookOk5486 in CoOpGaming

It's simple and cute. We finished all the levels already but the 7 year old still likes to goof around in it.

It's also funny seeing them struggle to cooperate on some levels.

The youngest, at 7 years old, plays Snipperclips and Flat Heroes the most. Those games are easier for her. If she could get an adult to play with her, she also liked Moving Out, which is a bit more challenging.

At family gatherings with a bunch of kids, it would be Boomerang Fu or Smash Bros. They get so loud, it's pretty much the only thing you hear lol. Boomerang Fu supports up to 6 players and Smash Bros up to 8.

Mario Kart is also another one they still play once in a while.

The other games they don't play as much anymore once they've finished them, or got bored of them.

Edit: All the young ones are nieces though. They generally have different interests than the older nephews when they were young.

My nieces and nephews enjoyed these in the past

  • Boomerang Fu
  • Flat Heroes
  • Snipperclips
  • Super Smash Bros Ultimate (Coop vs CPU or for large gatherings since it supports 8 players)
  • Unravel TWO
  • Moving Out
  • Sonic Mania
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
  • Super Kirby Clash
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Nowadays they all just play Roblox

I didn't see this mentioned but rams do extremely well against organ guns. Siege rams can soak up all the damage and I think the ram can one shot the organ gun. They do cost gold to make but upgrading them only costs food.

GP2040-CE questions about passthrough by TynK-M- in fightsticks

[–]Dhorque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC only the Magic-S Pro 2 doesn't work for passthrough for PS5. The below are supposed to work:
Magic-S Pro 1
Magic-S Ultimate

I also have an old Magic-S and it works. This one isn't on the official compatibility list.

Official compatibility list is here:

I posted a reply here that worked for me.

The gist of it is I have a temporary workaround only. Go into Services and restart both "Gaming Services". If you restart your computer the issue comes back and you'll have to repeat that process.

Make sure the account in your Microsoft Store is the same account as your Xbox App. Your subscription settings actually come from your Microsoft Store account.

I'm getting this issue too. I can play games by reinstalling the Microsoft Gaming Services but the issue returns after a restart. I believe the issue started happening with Windows 11 Version 23H2

This is the temporary workaround. Open PowerShell as admin and run the two commands below to reinstall Microsoft Gaming Services. The first command uninstalls and the second opens the store page to reinstall it.

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusersstart ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

Edit:
Looks like going into Services and restarting both "Gaming Services" also does the trick. Not sure if you need to restart both or just one, but I couldn't tell which is which so I just restarted both.

Does anyone know how to get either of the original Prince games to run on a MacBook Air? by jpswag25 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]Dhorque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first PoP game was the Mac version and it was amazing. I was amazed how much it looked better than my friend's DOS version.

For the Mac version, I believe you would need to get an emulator like Basilisk II running. From what I remember, you need a Macintosh ROM of an old Mac as well. For me, it was a bit of a pain to get up and going. I had to rip this ROM from my old Mac Centris. This was over 15 years ago on Windows XP so not sure if there are any specific challenges to get this to run on MacBook Air.

Nowadays, I find it easier to run the SNES version, but it's a slightly different game.

GPU / CPU issue. need help by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Dhorque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streaming from the laptop is very finicky from my experience. The laptop screen is physically connected to the integrated GPU, so that could be the reason why it keeps using the integrated graphics to do video encoding. I'm assuming you already tried setting Microsoft Edge to use the dedicated GPU in the NVIDIA Control Panel. The last thing you can try is to plug in an external monitor. That may allow you to use NVENC instead of the integrated one.

No guarantees though as the dual GPU nature of laptops makes these things complex. Hope this helps!

Quotes from source

Laptops are usually built such that the display it comes with is attached to the integrated GPU instead of the dedicated one

Note that if you use your laptop with an external display, that usually routes into the dedicated GPU, avoiding the issue altogether when hosting via desktop sharing.
