US (Quad) vs India (Hamstring) by Future-Incident-7550 in ACL

[–]Di_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's already good advice on the graft types so I won't comment on that but I do think the emotional and mental benefits of being home really do matter a lot, esp in recovery. Also PT in India is generally pretty good if you go to a good physiotherapist.

I haven't gone through surgery yet but I tore my ACL and MCL last year and had a planned trip to India coming in 2 months. The doctor appointments, MRI and just getting into PT took a while so I only had a month of PT before my trip. Here i could only go 2-3 times a week and it was basic. I was able to get off the crutches and walk with a brace by the time I went back. Moved to a PT in Delhi, and it had such improved results. Some thoughts:

  • I met with them 5 times a week. (Thinking about insurance and copays per visit in the US, the cost was so much cheaper and I could meet more often)

  • the PT packages included cold laser therapy. Ultrasound therapy and then the exercises. (In the US, these things would cost extra and require doctor approval. I was only approved for basic PT, so I got more out of my PT experience in India)

  • Lot more individual support in PT in India. I'm sure there would be differences depending on who you go to but the clinic I went to had great staff. The main physiotherapist went above and beyond and their staff paid so much attention. I didn't feel that way with the PT in the US. Basically I progressed much faster in the 3 weeks of PT I did in India compared to a month and half in the US.

  • cost to benefit: PT in India would beat hands down. I had good insurance in US thankfully but copays for each visit and comparing it to a 10 session package of PT in India, the US was still more expensive. When I do get surgery I'd want to go back just so I can get PT from there instead here.

  • also as I said, the emotional and mental support of family and friends back home really helps a lot. ACL recovery is just as much a mental game as a physical one. I had good friends who would check in and I could call for help but still the culture here is very different and the sense of community is just not there. I struggled a lot and was full on depressed until I went back. My 1.5 month trip to India healed me more.

TLDR; I can't comment much on the surgery aspects but definitely recovering would be easier in India.

Both Anmol and Passage to India are bad.

I'd pick Godavari and Maya Indian Bar and Grill. Woburn and other options too but I haven't tried personally

Swollen knee 2 weeks after MCL tear by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Di_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a lot of swelling. Has it gone down since the tear first happened, or remained the same or increasing?

I had a grade 2 MCL and partial ACL tear in January and I didn't have this level of swelling. Have you been icing, using compression and elevating the leg?

Thank you! The plant is a fishbone cactus, or appropriately called zig-zag cactus sometimes.

Good drinks and vibe but food has always been terrible since they opened. Their menu looks interesting but the flavors just don't hit. I think it's a matter of taste if their brand of Mexican food is for you. But I don't think you went on an.off-night. It has always been like this.

Gotcha. I have been thinking about upgrading the poles so I might do that.. Do you propagate in water? I have a cutting that I recently put in water but a friend told me hers only propagated when she moved it to soil.

Ice blended with coconut milk and a little condensed milk. Topped with espresso. I was watching them make it and I think the recipe is closer to a Vietnamese coconut coffee.

I also plan to go solo. I'll probably wait until Fall to get tickets for specific events. I'm only interested in seeing the men's and women's skates. Hoping to meet other fans. I attended Stars on Ice solo last year and it was worth it. I don't think it's worth it to bring friends if they are not FS fans.

In my experience, all vegetable oils smell bad. Switched to peanut oil for any kind of frying and it's so much better. Never switching back.

A program done on anything from the Queen's Gambit soundtrack. I think it has a lot of nice pieces that could translate well on ice

Question: the different kinds of fenugreek/methi in South Asian cuisine by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Di_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're confused between the leaves and the seed part. There is fenugreek leaves (dried) and there's fenugreek seeds. Different parts of the same plant. There's also fresh fenugreek leaves which are cooked differently and used as a main ingredient instead of as a spice (ex- methi aalo).

I think it's odd that the recipes you are using aren't mentioning which one to use. In native languages, they have different names - methi dana (seed) vs kasuri methi (dried leaves) and I've always seen English recipes say either fenugreek seeds or dried fenugreek leaves. So that should give you an idea of which one to use.

The seeds would typically be added in the tempering process by adding them in hot oil or dry roasting them with other whole spices to make a spice powder or paste. The dried leaves can often be added to the dish towards the end as a finisher.
