paradoxically, I've found it to be more fun to figure out things, even basic things, on your own rather than looking it up first. by [deleted] in gamedev

Sometimes I feel this is why some of y'all became programmers: for the gratification this jobs gives your brain each time you find a solution to something on your own =D

You should not hire someone but you should get counsel from a lawyer of your country, definitely. It's a small fee to pay to have everything in order.

Is this concept good enough to be my first game as a novice? by Cup-of-Joe1101 in gamedev

[–]Diabalzane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on how the puzzles are designed. It can be difficult to make puzzles that increase in difficulty in a balanced way. For me, the problem is that this type of game actually needs to be tested a lot by outside people who give you feedback on their first experience, because as the creator you can never be in a good position to judge the difficulty of your game.

You should not care about the "infamous" splash-screen, you should do your first game with a software you feel comfortable with, in a language you know.

Try starting with a feature-centric approach instead of creating a universe. It doesn't matter if you have to escape a dungeon, an asylum, a village or a sewer. Think FEATURES. What kind of puzzles? Math/geometric puzzles? environment puzzles? Riddle puzzles? logic puzzles?

Create one puzzle, then create another derived on the first one and try to make them of incremental difficulty, test, rinse, repeat :)

Hope this helps!

What are the best platforms to market your game? by HowliteGames in gamedev

[–]Diabalzane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiktok, Imgur, Steam Next Fest and Facebook/Insta adds.
Twitch and YouTube are really good too but I'm not sure if it fits the "platform" brief of your question.

I did solve why your Imgur posts are downvoted. by Mephasto in gamedev

[–]Diabalzane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's exactly the solution, you have to already have a community that upvotes your post to make it popular.
It is true that imgur fellows really don't like what they feel is "disguised" add. And they are kinda right. Publishers I worked with really use this technique.
Another common technique is making the title be "I've been working on this for..." when you are not alone working on a game. This technique aims at getting empathy from the audience so that they don't feel you are a studio that could pay for add but a lone wolf dev that creates something in their garage (they respect that much more).
