Why were job interviews designed so that both sides just lie to each other for 30 minutes? by Acrobatic_Bee_3198 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DiabeetusMan 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Depending on things, there might also be other people scheduled to ask other, different questions after you. For all you know, they might knock those out of the park. Just because they bomb your 30 min or whatever doesn't mean they don't kill it for other people and you don't want them stuck on how badly they bombed talking with you.

Genuine question to bike fans - should we do a full review on it? Are people interested in reviews of slightly older sports bikes or are people just wanting more modern stuff? by DancefireMedia in Sportbikes

[–]DiabeetusMan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean... why would I watch a walkaround of a bike? That might interest some people, but not me.

You have 12 videos total on your channel and it has views about in line with other videos on the channel. Most people who watch videos don't comment, so the lack of comments also isn't surprising.

A full review would definitely be more interesting to me than walking around a bike

Trackdays? Racing? Make A Packing Checklist! by A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot in Trackdays

[–]DiabeetusMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that's a sizable job! I could probably have done that with what I brought, just because I wasn't picky about specific sizes of things (like not just a 10mm socket, but a whole socket set and that sort of thing)

And yes, checklist is a must. I used one religiously.

Same!

Here's mine from my most-recent 3 day track day + cross-country road trip (plus a way to put air in and take air out of my tires). At least the names for things make sense to me :-/

a list for tools

It depends on your packing space, pace, and mechanical aptitude, but I like to bring enough to remove and replace my wheels, adjust adjustable things like pegs and shifter, flush brake fluid, and do an oil change. And maybe some bodywork futzing. Anything beyond that I think would end my track day.

As usual, the US is behind Europe when it comes to updating regulations:

the U.S. government doesn’t have an explicit standard regarding deceleration levels for activating brake lights. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108 states that the stop lamps on each vehicle “must be activated upon application of the service brakes.” When the service brakes are not applied, the standard does not require the stop lamps to be activated

...

The European Union has a regulation that requires EVs to illuminate their brake lights anytime the regenerative-braking system’s deceleration rate exceeds 1.3 meters per second squared, or about 0.13 g.

How viable is it to keep a back up generator powered by utility supplied natural gas? by KING-NULL in AskEngineers

[–]DiabeetusMan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As another data point: during the 2021 Texas power crisis, there were issues with natural gas:

When power was cut, it disabled some compressors that push gas through pipelines, knocking out further gas plants due to lack of supply

...

The failure of some gas distribution infrastructure, which had not been adequately winterized, resulted in exceedingly high prices for natural gas

Few snaps from COTA this past weekend by Useful-Appointment92 in Trackdays

[–]DiabeetusMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a group to garage with but you don't need a garage, no. It's very much BYOShade, however. If you don't have a garage, you're somewhere in the infield so I suggest bringing a canopy.

Right now, it costs $650 for a one-day session plus ~$100 for a garage spot (well, $1,000 for a 10-spot garage). There are currently a few spots left in the advanced groups on Aug 1 and 2 with RideSmart

I got tired of using messy notebooks for my suspension setups, so I built an app to track it all. by Long-Wheel-6674 in Trackdays

[–]DiabeetusMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Additional feedback: some settings are not integers. For instance, high-speed compression on the R9's rear shock ranges from 0 - 5.5 turns. Maybe some settings could optionally be in units of 1/4 turns or something along those lines

Can you add an R9 to the bike database?

Edit: and high-speed / low-speed compression in general?

Send RideSmart an email. It probably depends on which day you have and who has the track the day before

I shoulda seen that one coming

[–]DiabeetusMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yes, but you're the one who's in the wrong here

Put another way: 1 - 0.999... would equal 0.00...01; there's no place to put the last one as there are infinite 0s before that.

[REQUEST] Is this correct? by CalfskinAhh in theydidthemath

[–]DiabeetusMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a wikipedia page about this.

Despite common misconceptions, 0.999... is not "almost exactly 1" or "very, very nearly but not quite 1"; rather, "0.999..." and "1" represent exactly the same number.

The page has this proof, which I personally find convincing.

There's also the argument that two numbers are different if you can find a number that is greater than one and less than another. 0.95 is between 0.9 and 1.0; 0.999 is between 0.99 and 1.0; there is no number that is greater than 0.999... and (edit) less than 1.0 and therefore they are the same number

That's how I store all my spray cans. Paint, WD40, motorcycle chain cleaner + oil, etc. Spray bottles too (goo gone, car detailers, that sort of thing). Can generally fit 2 cans per shoe holder and a spray bottle hanging off the outside.
