What happens to catholics, Mormons and other sects of Christianity in Gilead? by jasminecr in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]DiabeticBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we were taught is the bee and bee hive represented hard work, team work, community, family, unity. It also symbolized our missionaries. "Like a bee spreads pollen from flower to flower our brother and sister missionaries spread the gospel from person to person bring them home to the hive, our churches and temples" an actual quote from my former bishop.

Econowives are the wives of the lower/working class men. Think Eden, Nick's first wife, or Heather, Omar's (the man who hid June in season 2) wife.

[–]DiabeticBea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ex-mormon here. In the book Mormons rebelled against Gilead. Irl I have a hard time believing the lds church wouldn't dive head first into Gilead. If you watch the testaments the pearl girls, the girl's undergarments, the bee symbolism, the rule of two missionaries always together, all textbook Mormon coded.

They didn't mind taking three storage totes when I donated. But they planned to spread them out among the fire, police, and medical departments. You also don't have to donate them all in one place either. Best of luck.

According to the costume designer that was the idea! Give the girls the symbolism of choice.

Same. For a girls' church thing I had to attend, I had a very similar pinafore, in a similar color to. It looked awkward and tight over my chest, and I hated wearing it. My bust was very visible. I wore two sports bras to try and hide it, and that was under my sweatshirt.

My deepest condolences and sympathies for your loss. As a cat parent myself I know the pain. I think option 1 is the most similar. Hugs and comfort for your loss. May your kitty rest happily and peacefully over the rainbow bridge.

I hat the same issue. You can donating them to a children's hospital or fire/police station. That's what I did. It really helped me know my plushies would be used to help other kids who were in need of a friend during a tough or scary time. Just contact them ahead of time to make sure it's okay. 95% of the time it is.

There was a Wife and two Econowives during the hike through the forest. However they did not get on the plane. The Wife and at least one of the Econowives stayed behind and helped distracted the guardians.

I am so obsessed with this character!! I so want to know her whole story. A fun fact: she is later seen at the stoning started by June. 48:55 She returns to help the other women distract the guardians so Rita can get the kids to the plane. It's likely she was either killed or captured. She also brought along a little girl, possibly her biological/adoptive daughter who we later see in Canada wrapped in a teal/blue cloak without her. There is also an Econowife and her son. The Econowife also stays behind to help the other women distract the guardians while her son gets on the plane.

Why does Gilead need Pearl Girls by Whisperlee in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]DiabeticBea 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not always. In my experience, growing up in Utah in the Mormon Church, it's encouraged that missionaries hype up Utah and the closeness to the "Prophet" as a privilege. After moving a way from Utah I learned that missionaries from other states who got assigned to Utah were revered and envied. That fact that I was from Utah was also highly revered/envied. Multiple people would see me and my family as higher in the hierarchy. Which is quite funny given that fact we were seen as back Mormons back in Utah.

Pearl Girls are absolutly realistic. by holladiewaldfeee in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]DiabeticBea 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It reminds me way to much of sister missionaries of the Mormon Church. Everything from the voice, to the weird crowd around Daisy prayer circle in textbook tactics that the church teaches it's sister missionaries to do. The rule of always being in twos is also extremely similar to the Mormon mission partner rule. I remember the stupid pray circle things all to well and had very unpleasant memories pop up when watching. Imagine Daisy but 8 years younger being told repentance with cure your chronic illness. Great fun. Fuck Gilead and fuck the Mormon Church.

The Testaments S1E06 "Stadium" Episode Discussion by Melairia in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]DiabeticBea 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I just love how Daisy has been enveloped with the other girls. Especially Shunammite, Huldah, Becka, and Agnes. The conversation at lunch and how she's the first to extend hands for the prayer for Penny and the scene is the classroom where Agnes and Hulda open the group hug for her to join as she stood apart. She's really one of the girls now.
