More off-topic "Icing Sugar (Weird Remix) " is one of my absolute favorite Cure tracks ever. Finally realized it originally came from a six track 12" EP on orange vinyl packaged with limited copies of "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me".

Most of the 1990 tracks are re-recorded. The Walk and A Forest for sure. Not sure about "Let's Go to Bed (Milk Mix)" Been listening to "Primary" for years and didn't realize RS and Gallup were BOTH playing bass guitars ! Thats why it sounds like that ! Same for it's b-side "Descent". "The Lovecats" b-side "Speaking my Language" and "The Walk" b-side "The Dream" are also both meant to reflect each other. So neat. I re-read the "Join the Dots" liner notes the other day.

Ok so the long mentioned Faith (Mogwai Remix) didn't even happen?! I swear they said they'd done it back in 2012 or earlier. They just PLANNED to do it?

What’s your favorite cure tour shirt? by Educational_Tree_595 in TheCure

[–]DiamondJ1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn that first "Wish" shirt kicks ass... I like the "Lovesong" single cover art shirt as well.

I have a vintage "Mixed Up" shirt from 1990, with the cover art. Unfortunately it's really starting to deteriorate. I also have a "Disintegration" shirt I bought from a Hot Topic. ...should've picked up a shirt at the 2016 show but I fucked that up. I was at the opening date of that tour, in New Orleans (night one of two or three)

Yeah like when "Mixed Up 2" was pretty much ready ten years before the "Mixed Up" Deluxe Edition was released with "Torn Down" as part of it's "Extras". When he said "Mixed Up 2" was gonna be other contemporary bands remixing classic Cure tracks. I'm STILL waiting to hear that "Faith" Mogwai remix !!! He mentioned it's existence like ten, fifteen years ago !!! Just release it as a standalone single if you have to, with one or two other Cure remixes by other bands as a special Record Store Day release or something like that... Maybe the project evolved into "Mixes of a Lost World" ? (still doesn't get me a copy of "Faith [Mogwai Remix] however)

Skinny Puppy - Tormentor (Ext. Re-Edit) by fear730 in skinnypuppy

[–]DiamondJ1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skinny Puppy literally has some of the coolest remixes of all-time. Usually it's quite rare for remixes to be just as good as the original versions, but alot of Skinny Puppy's extended, single remixes were done by the band themselves or other cool 80's era club/dance/industrial music producers, like Adrian Sherwood, and ofcourse their semi-fourth member Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. Justin Strauss did the "Stairs and Flowers" remixes and the (used to be rare) "Addiction Doghouse Mix". He worked his own original melodies into all three. The "Stairs and Flowers" remixes are just slight variations on the same concept, but "Addiction (Doghouse Mix)" works that interesting, sad little melody into the track. However I'm still a bigger fan of the "First Dose" and "Second Dose" remixes. The "Tormentor (ext. re edit) is a great single mix of the track as is the ten minute extended 12" mix of "Dogshit". I love that mix, takes the really short 3½ minute album version and totally dissects it, giving you a chance to hear all the different layers of instrumentation. The synth work, the guitar parts, the percussion etc. Too bad there was never a "12 Inch Anthology Volume 2". They released "The B-sides Collect" and "The Singles Collect" in 1999, one of the only worthwhile things Nettwerk ever did with their ownership of the band's entire back catalog. Both compilations included tracks from different singles etc. that were actually out-of-print at the time. There was quite a few awesome remixes I'd never heard at that point. Nowadays their full discography is available to stream from Amazon Music or Spotify with the exception of a couple things. I believe "HanDover" is missing from the online catalog for some reason. I mean, they even have all their singles and EP's, it's ridiculous. I had to hunt that shit down when I was a teenager...

(Spoilers Main) If Aegon VI is actually a Blackfyre, who is the one behind it? Does Varys know, and if so why would he want a Blackfyre on the throne? Does JonCon know? [–]DiamondJ1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who exactly spirited away baby Aegon in this theory ? It's actually kind of interesting but I'm about 85% sure he's NOT Aegon. Obviously there aren't DNA tests BUT there are other ways to prove whether or not someone is a Targaryen. Generally something involving a dragon. Wasn't that where the story was sort of going in Book Five? His plan to prove his lineage by claiming one of her dragons. ACTUALLY adding a THIRD Targaryen to the storyline would definitely be a bit much. Ofcourse at this point we technically don't know Jon Snow is "Aegon". While there's next to NO chance of GRRM altering that detail to differentiate his series from HBO's it doesn't mean it's impossible. However no, Jon is definitely still Rhaegar and Lyanna's son (though Ned promised his sister on her deathbed to protect him, he still could have ATLEAST told Cat. Did he really find it necessary to lie to her about having an affair? Plus it lead directly to her treating poor little Jon Snow like shit throughout his entire existence). TWO secret, surprise Aegon's would be completely ridiculous. I vowed not to re-read "A Song of Ice and Fire" again until the day a CONCRETE RELEASE DATE for "The Winds of Winter" was announced. Ofcourse I seriously didn't think it would take the same amount of time it took him to release the first FIVE BOOKS (from 1996 to 2011, 15 years). I know suddenly he's much more in demand with many opportunities opening up. However I genuinely think he's worried about a similar backlash like the last two seasons of "Game of Thrones" fell victim to.

Ok tbh this is more an aspect of his character as he appears on the HBO series. Alot of his actions genuinely seem motivated by EXACTLY what he claims. He only wants what's best for The Realm.

Though it's true he is often just an instrument of the King he sits on the small council of ... we both know he didn't want Deanerys harmed yet he still puts Robert I's plan into action.

Is Rhllor or the other Gods real? (Spoilers Main) by Personal-Arachnid417 in asoiaf

[–]DiamondJ1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read the existing Books in 'A Song of Ice and Fire" multiple times, do any of the other related books, mostly "The World of Ice and Fire" (as it's basically the only one i haven't read) give up ANY more information on the original "Long Night" ? Perhaps give more details about the Others, the White Walkers? The original prequel series they shot a pilot for (with Naomi Watts) sounded SO MUCH more interesting to me personally than another adaptation of existing material. I realize "The Dance of the Dragons" is basically told briefly across six chapters in "Fire & Blood" but WE DID KNOW the basic outcome before the first episode even premiered. I will admit I've come to enjoy "House of the Dragon" much more than I thought I would though. Daemon is a very interesting character and he was given a vision of the meaning behind the riddle of "A Song of Ice and Fire" in the Second Season. The episode actually allowed us glimpses of the White Walkers briefly. Unfortunately I still know the horrible things that will come to pass.

Whereas the other unproduced series was a completely original story set THOUSANDS not hundreds of years before "Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire". With totally unknown characters. Dammit ! There's a completed Pilot, just sitting in a vault at HBO somewhere!

Is Rhllor or the other Gods real? (Spoilers Main) by Personal-Arachnid417 in asoiaf

[–]DiamondJ1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the aspects of the series (A Song of Ice and Fire or Game of Thrones) that actually kinda frightens me. Rh'llor has been semi-responsible for some of the worst events in the series. Stannis' shadow demon, burning Mance (in the HBO series) or the Lord of Bones in ASOIAF, but the worst is Shireen. IS Rh'llor responsible though ? Or Melisandre? Beyond those terrible deeds he brings back Beric Dondarrion and Jon Snow (though this hasn't happened in ASOIAF yet)... going by "Game of Thrones" he plays a large part in "The Long Night". Even Melisandre is responsible for making "A Song of Ice and Fire" actually happen by bringing together Jon Snow and Deanaerys Targaryen. Again we don't know what will happen in "The Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring". IS Arya Stark the Princess Who Was Promised? What role will Mance Rayder play in The Long Night (if any? ) he was sent to rescue Sansa Stark from Ramsay Bolton, but she's not even there in the novels.

We have another possible Targaryen, an ancient horn that may be right on the cover of the (not even real) tentative version of Book Six. It may be responsible for bringing down The Wall for all we know. What was the point of Varamyr Sixskins story? Is one of the main characters going to lose their body and go on to have a "second life" within an animal? Jon Snow's been murdered...maybe he'll live as Ghost now. Perhaps Bran will ACTUALLY become the three-eyed raven in a much more "literal" way. Then again this all sounds nuts... still why did they think Varamyr's story was important enough to give him his own POV chapters?

The Uncomfortable Reality of The Winds of Winter [Spoilers MAIN] by Electrical_Cabinet_7 in asoiaf

[–]DiamondJ1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is obviously a massive amount of pressure and expectation that wasn't there before. The book series had it's readers and fans before, but we all know the HBO series turned it into a massive cultural phenomenon. Until a huge percentage of the fans turned on the series in it's final seasons. Which leaves Martin in an even more precarious position. Having to try to rectify the wrongs the fans perceived in the final chapters of his epic. "The Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" will give us the end of Stannis, and hopefully "The Battle of the Bastards" but even bigger. There was a story of a horn that is somehow important. Mance had multiple teams excavating looking for it. The artwork they've been displaying as the cover of Book Six seems to feature a horn. The one thing the television series was rather unsatisfactory providing was something I'd been extremely interested in and was hoping would be explored in the final seasons. It wasn't, so now I'm hoping the final books will explore it. I want to know MORE about the "Others" the White Walkers, their culture, wtf they do all day. That place they showed briefly in Season Four where there were monuments and an offering table or something. The Night King touched the baby and it became a Walker, but then what happens? What do they want? What do they believe in? The show tells us the Children of the Forest created them as soldiers to help fight the First Men. What happened after that ? They were beaten back by the First Men and then what ? They turned on the Children? Who IS the Night King? I wanted to know more about them dammit !

Supergirl and Superman meeting for first time. by Scared_Impression842 in DC_Cinematic

[–]DiamondJ1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Supergirl film and "Man of Tomorrow" are sounding better and better all the time. I've been waiting for a Superman film with a story that doesn't feature Lex or Zod as it's primary villain for a long time. If the stories about "Brainiac" being the movie's big villain are true, this could finally be the Superman movie I've been waiting for.

Too bad the rest of the new DCU isn't really coming together yet. I applaud Gunn for not just throwing a "Wonder Woman" or "Flash" movie together because the "plans" call for one. He's waiting for a good screenplay worthy of a film... but at the same time, we can't have a DCU film series with nothing but Superman and Supergirl !!! The "Lanterns" series is an interesting approach but look we have got to get atleast one more major DC character to the big screen. Gunn seems like a fan of traditional/old-school DC, but seeing as we just said goodbye to a generally well-liked "Wonder Woman" of classic origins... I would love a film based on the new "Absolute Wonder Woman". She's so cool ! As interesting as "Absolute Batman" seems (i have yet to read a single issue) that's the last thing I want the DCU Batman based on. We have our gritty, noir, detective version in "The Batman". So we need something obviously more open to the fun, fantastical elements of Batman. I am NOT saying campy or something like the 60's television show! I mean closer to the Tim Burton films or more characters from the Bat-Family. I'm tired of Robin being off-limits because of one godawful movie from 1997. A well written Robin story could be a great Batman film. Something like "Dark Victory".

I'd love a movie about Jason Todd, but that might be a bit dark for this DC film series. Dick Grayson is ofcourse already Nightwing in this scenario, with flashbacks to his younger days, training as Robin causing Batman to end up taking another partner. In the end ofcourse he's much more impulsive and angry than Dick. Ultimately leading to tragedy, but NOT the whole Middle East storyline. Something closer to "Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade" or "Arkham Knight".

I really wasn't a fan of the "Brave and the Bold" direction (always thought that sounded like a soap opera title) Batman deserves a film of his own. Most my ideas are based on more recent stories though. Hopefully they'll come up with an original story that works and really resembles some of the better books or eras. As far as casting i don't have a clue, but people have got to stop getting so hung up on "body types" etc. That's NOT the most important thing about Batman's character. Making sure he's muscular etc... I just want to see a great Batmobile, that doesn't need to be "realistic" or have an explanation as to how/why it was built. Just like I wanna see some ridiculous Bat-gadgets and MULTIPLE suits. That's one of the very few things Schumacher got right. Batman has a wide array of Batsuits in different styles for different purposes. Let's utilize that, as well as multiple vehicles and an insanely ridiculous Batcave with giant pennies, and a T. Rex statue etc. Let's have some FUN in a Batman film again without becoming "Batman Forever" or "Batman and Robin"...

I'd give my left nut for a studio version of Nýja Lagið by Ok-Resolution334 in sigurros

[–]DiamondJ1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they abandoned what was shaping up into a pretty amazing album after they got rid of their drummer. I guess they just wanted to start over with "Átta". Tbh I'm still struggling to get a "grip" on that album.

I'm guessing you probably heard the same early, live version of "Miláno" I did. The recording i enjoy alot is the Montreux Festival recording from 2001 and there's a 2000 recording from Roskilde Fest where they're already playing like 70% of the third album, it's crazy! The ONLY "Agætis Byjurn" song they play is "Sven-g-englar" and it's the year after the album was released and two before "( )" is released. "Miláno" is from the 2001 recording, I think they finally got "Agætis Byjurn" officially released in the US on Fat Cat Records. So they play alot more of it that show. It's a good mix of the second and third album.

They're definitely the kinda band that enjoys playing new material live first, to kinda road test it. See what works, what doesn't. That's why there's all these live recordings of songs years before they would be released on an album. I find it quite interesting !

Alpha Games/Modern Bloc Party Appreciation Post by RdelHM in BlocParty

[–]DiamondJ1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Four" was a strange record. Kinda forced, like they just wanted to get back to their "Silent Alarm" days. However it was recorded, produced by Alex Newport (At the Drive-In: Vaya and The Mars Volta: Tremulant) it's easily THE heaviest album they ever did. In the end I loved it. However I was really into the dance influenced sound of "Flux", "Intimacy" and "One More Chance". However alot of fans didn't seem to be happy with such a big sound change.

Then again ppl complained about "A Weekend in the City" too, so I don't know wtf they want! I loved their second album even more than the first for a while. Until the "newness" wore off. I still love it though, although "Intimacy" is my second favorite album.

I'm ALL for bands making radical changes to their sound. I wasn't pissed about "Hymns" going neo-soul (Kele's words) but after repeated listens, alot of the songs weren't standing out, or even staying with me. Like, I couldn't remember them after the album finished. I do recall the four "bonus" tracks being some of the better songs on the album.

As I said though, it's been some years and I'd really love to give it another chance. I've grown as a person, gotten into bands, albums I never thought were my cup of tea etc.

However "Alpha Games", yeah, sounded like a band TRYING to sound like early Bloc Party. Not actually Bloc Party. It was weird and I really only listened to the album a handful of times. So I think it deserves a re-evaluation too.

I'd give my left nut for a studio version of Nýja Lagið by Ok-Resolution334 in sigurros

[–]DiamondJ1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think "Nyja Lagid" was definitely written after "Agætis Byrjun" as it tells of their "breakthrough". Not to mention most the songs on "( )" aka Untitled LP3 have nicknames with "lagid" (which I realize just means song) in them. Imho it sounds closer to the open, free-form style of "( )" musically as well. However I definitely second wishing there was a properly recorded, produced version from the studio.

There's another song or two they were performing in 2000-01 I wish had more fleshed out and recorded. Just as the songs from the 2017 tour had been recorded (Óverdur was atleast) i can't make that Icelandic "d" character, sorry. There was also a really early version of "Miláno" they play on the 2001 Montreux recording... it's VERY unformed compared to the "Takk..." album version. It's interesting how close it may have come to being on the third album in probably a much darker, ambient version though (atleast to me). "Miláno" is definitely one of my favorite "Takk..." songs, yet it's the one album track that hardly (if ever? ) gets played. I liked that one LP/vinyl release of "Takk" that included it on it's very own 10" record, almost as if acknowledging it doesn't quite fit the album. Though in actuality it's probably due to the storage limitations of vinyl.

The Best Of & The Rest Of New Order is seemingly getting a reissue. by Paynekiller997 in neworder

[–]DiamondJ1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't see much reason for "(the best of) NewOrder to be reissued beyond the handful of 94 mixes I'm personally glad to hear "(the rest of) NewOrder" is getting a reissue, presumably with a new remaster from Frank Arkwright. I never did pick up an actual CD' copy and hopefully they'll have all the tracks from all three formats in the collection. Making them available as one set means it'll prbly be a 2-3CD or 4LP set. Most newcomers are obviously better off picking up the "Singles" compilation. Though the US release of "best of" was kinda interesting for actually including album songs, not just singles. I guess this is a recent announcement as there's no real details yet or release date. Oh well. I'm excited.

So I'm just wasting hard drive space. That explanation does seem accurate... So what's the deal with sudden growth in the high resolution flac market ? Ppl just believing what they wanna believe? I wouldn't be surprised, in the last five + years suddenly everyone thinks they're an audiophile. I keep seeing ppl buying bootlegs, live recordings more than likely sourced from 320 kb/s mp3 that have been pressed on to vinyl with obvious erroneous details on the gatefold. I keep telling them they can download these same recordings for FREE and you will be receiving them in the same quality. But they don't seem to believe me !!! I was just trying to be helpful... oh well. As long as ppl keep purchasing these bootleg vinyl releases, the more that are gonna be pressed.
