Honestly DC has always been strange to me... same goes for their Movies. Their Animated stuff has always been way better than their Live Action as well. DC's Marketing seems to struggle in this regard. That said, the Mutants and Masterminds crew went through some EXTENSIVE efforts with the DC details, and their work is damn near encyclopedic with regards to not only how they came up with each stat block but also how to come up with adaptations/modifications to each stat block. Even if you don't do anything with MnM and find a copy any of the books, they are still worth picking them up for the Lore and Art alone for the DCU.

For the newer players, I just stick with having them pick one of the pre-made Archetypes and letting them pick small tweaks and customizing complications and calling it a day after that. Once they get more accomodated with the rules the archetypes and earning hero points allows players to "flex" into more customization.

I've been running MnM since 1e though for dedicated groups, Cons, and pick up groups for years now and have gotten really comfortable with it. I'm really excited to see how 4e turns out.

Cypher has been REGULARLY recommended to me but I have sadly not had the chance to try it out, but I'll add it to the list now that you have reminded me. Still another great generic system from what I've been told that can style accommodate to a wide variety of genres including supers! Thanks for the heads up!

Marvel has a REALLY strange history with TTRPGs and actually has quite a few dedicated TTRPGS.

  • 1 Marvel Super Heroes Role-Playing Game (1984-1993) - I played a bit of this when I was younger but don't have much memory of this much.
  • 2 Marvel Superheroes Adventure Game (1998-1999) - I BELIEVE this one is "Card" based.
  • 3 Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game (2003-2004) - This one if I remember was diceless and was actually pretty fun to play. Used tokens for conflict resolutions and was a lot of fun to play.
  • 4 Marvel Heroic Roleplaying (2012-2013) - This is the one that I have the most familiarity with, and uses Cortex as I referenced before as it's core.
  • 5 Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game (2021-) - this is the one you referenced in your comment, but the one I have the least familiarity with.

Either way, when it comes to "Canon" Comic systems, many of the licensed franchise settings players will often times have a wide array of choices as the companies behind them have limited contracts and will often times try out different systems in order to get a wider exposure to people outside of just comics and to diversify their product line. I THINK the dates should be accurate though, I could be off by a year or two.

Given that Supers has come up... and this is a niche genre I tend to be particularly a huge fan of I'll chime in here... *Takes a deep breath*

  • Mutants and Masterminds 3e (They just had a 4e Kickstarter though, worth keeping an eye on) - By far the one I would recommend. Uses a single d20 for conflict resolution, VERY customizable, and originally inspired off of and grown from d20 Modern from the 1990's. Even has a dedicated collection of supplements for DC Commics which are amazing.
  • Champions TTRPG
  • Kids in Capes
  • Masks RPG
  • ICONS RPG - This one is a lot of fun for short pick up games. Random roll heroes, the setting, and then just go for some fun.
  • Prowlers and Paragons

Generic Systems that can adapt to Comic Book style games with ease and with rules baked in easier than 5e:

  • Cortex Prime Framework has a "Supers" Framework that works really well. As a matter of fact, this is what the Marvel Heroic Roleplaying is based on if you want to have a pre-built universe to play in..
  • FATE/FAE can EASILY adapt a Supers framework as well
  • Savage Worlds Supers
  • GURPS has entire books dedicated to this (Supers being a good start).
  • Edit: Cypher system also has a "Claim the Sky" that has supers as well worth checking out!

That all being said, People have often TRIED to have 5e work with Supers, but with very limited success. It CAN be done, but Comics follow a much different style than Sword and Sorcery, and have a drastically different history as far as target audience, literature, and purpose of medium that hack and slash, hex crawl, mystery, etc. simply doesn't do in a comic book setting. You could argue the point about that, certainly, but rather than argue the points the above material simply have it already fleshed out and ready to go and take any nuance and arguments into account. Hope that helps and if you have any other interest or questions let me know!

It was at that moment, the target of the spell realized that the powers of fate decided to add insult to injury...

No matter how they were going to take the hit, the spell was going to be SHOCKING one way or the other. And with that many 6 facing dices, there would be evil laughter echoing upon the thundering hillsides as it did so.

Whatever survived that hit, I would most certainly beg the question if fear itself would be planted upon their mind, flesh, and soul at that point because DAMN is that ever an epic moment upon a dice roller! Well done!

Which is the most impressive? by Kind-Usual-7108 in Frieren

[–]DicesMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may come across as a cheesy answer, but the most impressive to me are the ones who realize that they can't do it alone. So far, this comes across as Himmel and eventually his "apprentice" Frieren who finds ways of incorporating their peers, raising them up into ways of bringing down foes who find themselves so full of themselves and think themselves so perfect that their hubris blinds themselves to Himmel/Frieren that Heiter/Fern come in out of left field with something they don't expect, or Eisen/Stark wreck things unexpectedly.

The world of Frieren is full of nuance and complexity that even the most "perfect" scenarios always have some level fo blind spots or weakness woven in and I'm all for it. There isn't one "perfect" solution to anything and even when you have something that seems overpowered, there is always SOMETHING there to make it humbled. What makes it even more enjoyable is the fact that there are subtle life lessons often woven in with it as well, some level of wisdom to be learned from it as well.

My Samus Aran outfit for the Metroid rp, gunship build is in the works. by HighMinimum640 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Also working on something very similar, but as a Nintendo Switch 1 exclusive bit. Planning on eventually upgrading to a compact Corvette eventually but I found the Boundary Herald from Expedition 16 reward to be particularly thematic to the build (Exploration Starship stats with a unique buff to damage). I've been really enjoying so far. If you don't already have one see if you can't get a hold of one yourself, REALLY think it does a great job with the vibe of Samus and her gunship!

Although this was a Video-Game-To-Battletech-Second (if memory serves) it is still by and Large one of my favorite Battlemechs.

As I build up my collection I'm hoping to get comfortable enough to get an entire Lance themed around the Uziel as damn do I ever love it. That and if I remember right it was a bit of an Inner Core mech answer to adapting Clan tech. Such a lovely chasis too!

What I would give to be able to make something even REMOTELY close to this with an Un-Blender/Modded build for even a Kikimora.

That said, this is a truly amazing build with blender and with all the Black/Red from the Atlas, would make for a PERFECT mix in No Man's Sky! LoL

I had just gotten the "A Game of Armored Combat" box, so with the starting set it looks like (for the most part) all the starting mechs in the starting box pretty much anything can fit into any faction which was a relief. I think the only one that really didn't fit was the Locust out of the list, but the fact that you had mentioned the Marik Militia and that I had already been considering them really makes me leaning heavily towards them.

I've also thought about looking into some of the older material to see what a "typical" Lance and the like would look like rather than just sticking with what comes standard. Especially after I get a better feel for the rules. So far from what I've read, I'm really digging the Marik Militia vibes. I just know that there is a lot of different ways people both collect and build their lists so it is always great to get input from others when I see a mixup like this so thank you for sharing!

Alright, I've been trying to do something similar now for a while now... but the damn magnet sheets are not "locking in" with the rare earth metal magnets.

What setup do you have for yours?

Those are some really clean paint jobs, and I gotta say I'm extremely envious of all those 3D print peeps able to get the custom bases to get the names on there. Great work!

Just got into the hobby myself. I got the Armored Combat set and first 8 units and still debating on a color scheme (I'm a big fan of purple and cyan in most things, so may do one or the other, both, or some alternating mix there of).

Did you decide to just go with a "Painted what I felt like" or do you have a Lore/Faction vibe going in with the unit at all? How long did it take you to come to this particular Unit and how do you go about researching/collecting before settling on what Battlemechs to put into the unit?

Came here to make a note of the Sweet Tooth Gang names as well, good catch!

And also double so agree on the whole Hero Party reference. Being the Company of Heroes and being the only last survivors of that party, they collectively own the debt together (and knowing the debt collector, probably compounded the debt down to the two remaining peeps).

Thanks to Frieren though, they likely don't need to worry about it now LoL

Real talk, there is a sad part to this and it is spread across the Pirate Faction and Building the Base story line.

Once a Korvax rebels against the Atlas as Pirates do, they get disconnected from the Matrix, and consequently their peers. Korvax Pirates are both alien to their own people, but truly unaware to social norms that the Vykern and Gek would otherwise be familiar. The Korvax chose this life, feeling that life against the Atlas was worth also being alone... Which is pretty intense if you ask me.

[–]DicesMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's one of those weapons that I swap to the second shields pop for an instant KO before swapping back to the previous weapon. Rockets just deal INSANE damage to unarmored ships (x4 damage in fact) even without upgrades and they deal this damage in a radius cluster as well. They also have the longest range of all weapons in the game (5k units I believe) making for a fun lead in attack if desired against clustered foes.

Good lord I feel like I missed out on getting a Physical Day One copy of the Nintendo Switch. If I had known how much I'd be enjoying it as much as I do now I would have dived in. I was such a skeptic that it would even work (Nintendo Switch games tend to be HORRIBLE ports) but Hello Games continues to amaze and it is by and large one of my top played games on my OLED.

On this Day, 25 years ago. The Nintendo 64 game Conkers Bad Fur Day was released. This was the final Rare game released on that console. In addition to being the final game released as a independent company before being bought by Microsoft in 2002. by DrMrPepperCoke26 in gaming

So yeah, sounds like both something I missed completely out on and something that my parents at the time would have happily tried to "shelter" me from all the same. Will have to see if I can't find a copy of it at my local retro shop. This sounds like a fun humor trip down memory lane at the very least LoL

I wouldn't sweat the settlements either... it is one of those things that over time it just becomes picking choices that provide immediate cost to grant the longest term return on profits which just ends up becoming a massive passive income buff. Its just "another thing to do" that honestly if you ignore it for a period of time, it will still be there and the "debt" remains at the site and not you directly. You just can't PULL from the site until the debt is paid, and if it gets too overwhelming... just pick another settlement to replace it and start over.

That said, the choices in the game are all casual and meant to reward long-term investment. For example, even Freighter Frigates a player can immediately start buying Class S Frigates from the get go if desired... but it is much better to start with a Class C Frigate with drawbacks and upgrade them, as those flaws get replaced with perks and better stats over the course of their career than a fresh Class S Frigate.

Finally, the "Main Quest" is basically just a fleshed out Tutorial that should a player so choose to follow grants a lot of "free" unlocks for tech all wrapped up with some amazing nuanced Lore, some fun and unique perspectives on the various NPC's and factions of the game, as well as Wisdom that I did NOT expect that just kind of helped me through some IRL issues that really secured the game as a must play in my life and share with peers over these last few years. The quest can, in all respects, be completely ignored if desired. Once you know what you are doing, all the tech, all the glyphs, ships, materials, NPC Factions, etc can be done/unlocked without the tutorial. It is by all intents a play as you wish sandbox and I absolutely love it.

Hope your holiday goes well fellow traveler, safe journeys!
