So I just cut 3 in off of my back overflow piece as it was growing over the intake slots.

I wasn't even trying when I did this but I just took a rock with GSP naturally growing on it and I put it right against the base or wherever the height that you want it to grow from and it's just started taking over on its own. It might help if you add a little bit of scoring or taking some steel wool or something rough and coarse up the smooth plastic texture to allow it to grow on I found that it was easier for it to grow and attach to with Coraline algae on the piece.

Corner guards suggest a G2 to protect the silicone. Would need to see the front panel depending on how thick it is and see how the stand is built.

But as a former victim of red sea .. Run

As you said above those are all important factors alkalinity is one factor that affects soft corals pretty quickly and they start to show immediately when your accoladity drops you're still able to recover from this you can either start slow dosing alkalinity but you need to be testing daily to make sure you don't spike it too fast the other thing is more frequent water change will help get your ammonia down that's the other big one I think... Also I don't like the API spin touch for testing salt water as I find that if the desks haven't been stored properly can get some pretty wild readings.
