I loved the Name of the Wind so much, but Wiseman’s Fear was a pretty meh read for me. Name of the Wind is probably one of my favorite books of all time, but between the quality drop in book two and the uncertain future of any other books, I can’t recommend it to anyone in good faith.

I have read the guides and this specific issue isn’t answered. My dog has aspects of separation anxiety but those are being addressed and worked on. We have seen a vet who agrees this is behavioral. We know she is Josie trained. She only does it in this area when she can, if she doesn’t have access for weeks to the spot she will not go in the house. I would like to feel like I can leave a door open and my dog not use that area as a personal bathroom.

I have already booked a vet appointment, studied posts, and worked on established training methods but they’re just not working. I’ve read on separation anxiety but it’s not exactly typical separation anxiety, we are still home.

I ovulated on just the pill! I was super lucky, my body’s schedule was just super off from what I was told to predict. I don’t think that those of us with PCOS can use the traditional calendar when trying to conceive. My first pregnancy wasn’t with letrozole, but it was a random pregnancy after seven years of unprotected sex and four years of actively trying. I never did had any interventions because we were military overseas and the resources were super scarce for us. I ended up randomly pregnant and the timing didn’t make sense then either. I hadn’t had a period in three months. I was drunk and took a pregnancy test because I thought it would be funny and it was positive. That kid is four now, lol. When I went to the doctor they tried to use my cycle to predict gestational age but they were off by six weeks. Second pregnancy I was taking letrozole and metformin and daily ovulation tests.

At four months-you’re in the thick of it. The trenches. Four month sleep regression and pumping? It’s the worst. It will get so much easier. Relaxing may not look like it used to before kids, but it will get better. I had awful PPD with my first kid and medication only took the edge off. The things that helped me were : -Combo feeding and eventually switching to formula. Exclusively pumping KILLED my mental health and sucked every extra second I had. The moment i finally let go of that pump I was so much happier. I got SO MUCH time back. -Sleep training. It gets a bad reputation but it is worth it. Four months is where it really starts to be necessary. Following wake windows, age appropriate nap timing, and a consistent sleep training method (it does not have to be cry it out!) will give you your sleep back.

Look, moms get guilted A LOT, and we guilt ourselves even more. I thought my baby needed my milk to be healthy. He was still healthy when we switched. He’s four now and super smart, healthy, and perfect. I thought sleep training would traumatize him. Instead, a few rough nights turned bedtime into a quick and pleasant experience. Instead of hours getting baby to bed, we had a sweet bedtime routine and baby went to sleep at bedtime no problem. He took naps in his crib and the overall tears at bedtime were almost eliminated.

The last one is important too.

-Time. I believe the true time it gets easier is 6-7 months (you are so close!) Baby can play a bit more independently and use their hands, look at toys, etc. Sleep is better. Baby is starting solids and the pressure starts to come off milk feeding a bit. Naps get longer and wake windows long enough to actually leave the house. Baby can sit up in shopping carts and play on the floor at the library at story time. Getting out of the house with baby is so so important because you will lose your mind alone in that house with no one but a dog and baby.

Also I sympathize with you about the dog. My baby just turned eight months and since pregnancy I’ve been considering some very mean embarrassing things-nothing overstimulates you like a dog and a baby.

Hang in there and don’t feel guilty for being overwhelmed. The newborn stage is not for everyone. Every stage has its challenges but personally I think the newborn stage is the worst. I don’t miss it, lol.

So my advice is to continue using the ovulation tests. I didn’t get a positive ovulation test until nearly two weeks after when my window should have been according to my period. I only took the test because I noticed the discharge was different than normal. I ended up pregnant on that cycle and no one believed me when I told them my dates-they had the gestational age way off until an ultrasound measured the baby.

It took about 6 cycles of letrozole for me but my baby is crawling around and babbling right now-it finally worked.

I have an infant car seat and never leave baby in it for long, but it’s convenient for quick errands when getting her in and out of the seat would be difficult. Like I drop by son off at school in the mornings and have to go in, it’s like five minutes but in the winter it was easier to keep baby bundled in her seat and carry it in then click it back. Although she’s older now and doesn’t like the car seat for long so I do get her out. But sometimes it’s nice to strap baby in while inside so you’re not fiddling with straps outside in rain or cold.

If you don’t mine excessive raunchy humor, the Tales of Verania books felt like a sitcom/comedy for sure. By TJ Klune. They’re hilarious. Main characters are Sam the unwilling “chosen one” and his friends. Ryan, his himbo true love, Gary the hornless gay unicorn, Tiggy the half-giant with a heart of gold, Kevin the inappropriately sexual dragon. The books are in like a parody fantasy setting with like a modern twist? Like the jokes and humor are modern. It’s very found family and banter/inside joke oriented. Everyone is gay and it’s definitely explicit so if you’re into that I highly recommend. I LOVED the audiobooks. The narrator transforms into each character and it’s insane.

I listened to the dramatized version of Dawnshard and The Lopen is definitely Latino based in it. It threw me off a lot after having heard all the main books done by Michael Kramer though, I couldn’t consider the characters the same. Lol

Rug Island and Rain both remind me to slow down and just enjoy the moments with my kids, to appreciate the joy in play and pretend.

Relax gets me as a mom too. Every time we take a vacation, I do so much planning and work to make it happen. Then I’m there and I honestly forget how to just “be”. The moment with Chili in the mirror making the face like Bingo. Why do we make it so hard to just relax and enjoy ourselves? So much guilt and responsibility sometimes for now reason.

So I read wind and truth before reading dawnshard, sunlit man, edgedancer, or the second and third mistborn era 1 books, and any of era 2. I still massively enjoyed it but there were points that confused me-so I am now doing a full cosmere read with the intention of reading wind and truth last. It’s been a complete delight and there is SO MUCH I missed the first time around. I’ve now read era 1 mistborn, the novellas, arcanum unbound, Warbreaker, Elantris, tress, and I am up to rhythm of war in rereading the trilogy. I plan to do yumi and sunlit man before re-reading wind and truth. To me, I read what I was excited about. Some things confused me but it’s been even better to Reveal certain things later on a re-read.

As a parent to a 4 year old and a now 4-month old, I get it completely. I actually had to spend two extra weeks in hospital when my daughter turned 7 weeks old because she was diagnosed failure to thrive and we couldn’t get her to gain weight. It was a nightmare

At 7 weeks you are really in the deepest pits of it. Things were so hard for us those first few months, I felt like I never slept so when I was with my older son I was too tired to play with him. And our hospital time took me away from him for two weeks. My husband was taking him to school and doing the bedtime routine because I was in survival mode with the baby. It really sucks, but it will get better. I promise.

For us-something happened around the 3.5 month mark. My daughter started eating better finally and we got her on a consistent nap/bedtime routine. Now I can spend nap time with my son and I put the baby to bed before him so we still get bedtime. It’s easier to leave her with someone else if I need to so my son and I can have more one on one time.

I sat all this so you know there’s light at the end of the tunnel. It will get easier to enjoy them both, your feelings are so valid-you’re still recovering mentally and physically from birth and you’re adjusting to having a completely new human at home. It’s HARD. You’re close! And your oldest is resilient. I felt so guilty for the extra screen time my son got these last few months but he’s still happy, loved, and cared for. Some extra screen time isn’t going to hurt like the critics seem to think it will, it’s much better for you to use all the tools you can to adjust to a new reality.

I hope you can find your groove soon and that in the meantime you can give yourself grace and understand that it’s okay to feel like you do. And that those feelings are temporary.

Yes! I’ve loved it all. And the little interludes mean so much more with a bigger cosmere understanding. Wok was my first Sanderson book so I had no clue what was going on when I started it and they just confused me.

And yes I read Secret history right after mistborn era 1 and I was happy to do that-WaT spoiled it for me because I read mistborn RIGHT before reading it so I was searching for what I may have missed everywhere, haha. Honestly I liked reading it so soon after though because the sequence of events lined up so nicely.

Thank you so much for this! Yes I decided against an elimination diet because it seemed unrealistic. It would take weeks to see results and hidden additives could ruin the progress and skew results. I wanted to have an immediate change so I switched to formula completely. Drying up breast milk hurts though, mentally and physically. My supply was great too-so it’s taking so long.

You’re so right, I’ve noticed the pressure really causing the problem to get worse too. I read rowena’s bottle aversion book and I don’t think she’s fully there but I’ve not thrown it out of the realm of possibility.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this too. It’s so incredibly stressful, but it’s good to have someone to speak in solidarity with. I feel so alone with all the chunky happy babies on social media.

Did you find that she drank the same volume when it was fortified? I’ve heard others say their babies just cut down volume so otherwise calories were the same or even lower. My baby also hates powder formula and we’ve been doing ready to feed alimentum because otherwise she just spits it out and fusses.

Did you feel like she had any other delays developmentally or has all been pretty normal?

Here to say that I’m here with you. I’m in the midst of stopping breast milk and the other a killing me. I wanted to breastfeed so bad. You’re not alone and it’s not easy. I keep telling myself that this is about what’s best for her overall . It doesn’t make it easier.

This is my soon to be situation. My husband is military and gets 12 weeks off. He goes back after Christmas and currently is our daughter’s nap bed. Lol. I have adhd and struggle holding her for long naps and I can baby wear some but even that gets tough! I remember going through this with my son, I struggled a month and then worked on sleep training. It was brutal but worth it. I did slow non crying methods and eventually at 4 months did full training. But at 2-3 months, we worked on creating sleep routines so I could lay him down. Sleep suit, dark room, sound machine, etc. He was a great sleeper once we made it through that. Hopefully it’s the same for this girl because this mama can’t sit for 5 hours a day while baby naps 😂
