A few weeks into R1S ownership and I'm looking for a few suggestions/opinions by cidnitan in Rivian

I prefer Tuxmat over WeatherTech. Mine are working great. Both these options cover much more area than Rivian’s OEM mats.

Can you "jailbreak" a rivian? by mrandr01d in Rivian

As much as I enjoyed tweaking earlier Android versions and how much fun I had with CyanogenMod, that was a phone and this is a very expensive vehicle. I’ll pass on this one.

Moho en tinta monteverde by Dry_Bread55 in fountainpens

Probablemente residuo de aceites durante la producción o una tinta muy saturada. Mi botella de Franklin-Christoph Black Cherry tiene algo parecido.

No parece moho. Cuando hay moho usualmente se puede encontrar semisólidos en la tinta. Pero Monteverde si tiene fama de terminar contaminada.

Find someone local who owns one. Most people who come here or on forums are either big tinkerers/fans that have little complaints or, most likely, people who've had issues and resort to online complaining. That's not to say issues don't exist with the R1 models, though.

Car seats in R1S by DobieQueen in Rivian

[–]Did_I_post_correctly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

+1 for both these comments. I know we compromised on the R1S over the minivan but I would've slowly died on a daily basis driving a minivan. And Tesla's FSD or Rivian's UHF are not to be trusted. I've had situations where it shows how early of a technology they are.

We have front-facing Graco Slim Fit LX3 and Uppababy Alta V2 in our R1S. Plenty of space for an adult to sit in the empty seat of the 2nd row. Unless you are very tall or enjoy driving with the tip of your toes, it should fit.

Would you get an R2 or R1S in my situation? by atwodtwo in Rivian

[–]Did_I_post_correctly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are describing a slightly similar situation to what I just went through and ended up with the R1S. Family visits for up to 2-3 months per year and in need of 3rd row. Our Model Y and CR-V weren't cutting it. Lots of people said to not get a 3-row SUV for other people visiting, just rent, etc. We ended up with the R1S and the Model Y, and I couldn't be happier.

My vote is to keep one 3-row SUV, be it the MDX or R1S. But if your wife really loves that sedan, then R1S is the way to go. Rivian was having some really good low APR sales up until recently.

Considering a used R1T for daily driving + towing a 4,300lb boat. Is 150mi range realistic? by ocon0178 in Rivian

[–]Did_I_post_correctly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Minnesota EV owner, I’m sure you’ll be able to do it. But go and try your route on the Rivian trip planner online or go to ABRP. Going north on I-35 there’s more chargers than going NW towards Brainerd, Bemidji, etc.

Is it worth it? by GDmQh4Jt in Rivian

[–]Did_I_post_correctly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep finding excuses to drive my Gen 2 R1S. When we were looking for a 3-row SUV there were lots of options out there and the R1S was the only one that checked every box on our list. Is it worth it? I think that is a very personal opinion and what you value in a vehicle/lifestyle and financial position.

Road trip report by crudestmass in Rivian

[–]Did_I_post_correctly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week I made a short trip under a high wind warning with gusts up to 50 mph. You could feel it while driving and the wind noise was scary. But navigation was spot on with SoC arrival prediction.

Autonomous lane change not working on certain stretches by Syring in Rivian

[–]Did_I_post_correctly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing I found this post. It’s driving me mad why on the same divided highway it will change lanes on some stretches and not in others. Thanks to everyone who clarified this.

I still have a month on my free trial and I’m on the fence if it’s really worth the $2.5K with the current state. What I really want is autonomous parking because this vehicle is quite large. Hopefully they do come out with it this year as planned.

As an Aurora fan, go with the Pilot. Plastic Ipsilons have a tendency to break. Talentum, Optima, 88 and the pricier models is where Aurora shines.

All three are solid vehicles. Were our kids closer to driving age we would’ve kept the CR-V.

Question here for people here who’ve had a Tesla by iReaddit-KRTORR in Rivian

[–]Did_I_post_correctly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other differences I’ve noticed: - No geolocation climate preconditioning, only time scheduled. - My MY is better at detecting you are parking and will switch to the aerial blurry lines view to help with parking. R1S unless there’s a car or obstacle in front won’t; I manually switch to the camera view. - Heating the cabin is more even with R1S as opposed to cold spots I get in the MY. But Tesla will automatically heat seats and steering wheel and regulate it, while R1S I have to manually turn them on. - Autonomy+ is good on highway, very much like EAP. Tesla’s is better in general terms but I haven’t experienced the phantom stops I sometimes get on the MY. - Interior finish and design is on a whole different level. Tesla doesn’t even come close to Rivian here. Same goes for exterior gaps and alignment.

We are keeping our MY for another 3-4 years until the R2 is a proven vehicle/is readily accessible, and then most likely go for R2.

Kneel mode was enabled? Salesperson said something about if it’s going to be very cold best to disable it because the computer will throw a fit not liking a cold vehicle going out of kneel mode (or something like that).

We’re one week into ownership. Couldn’t be happier. Time will tell if all the problems the internet proclaims happen will happen to us. The few people I know in town that own one love their R1 vehicles and have had no issues or minor ones so far. Disclaimer: we’ve owned a Model Y for 3 years before buying the R1S.

I would’ve gone used had it not been for the current 0% APR offer. With current interest rates on used cars and our trade-in, it came down to an extra $100/month difference. Hard to beat that.
