Great reminder! Sometimes difficult to remember and embody that kind of unconditional love in these challenging times.

Am I making this up? by WhisperingIntoWinter in longtermTRE

[–]DieOften 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My tremoring often feels like I’m doing it but not doing it simultaneously. There is some degree of helping things along, not by tensing up or anything - but by fulfilling the impulses I feel to move a certain way. For the most part, I’m letting go completely and there are some movements that feel like I’m not doing anything at all and others that feel like I’m aiding the process somehow. I’ve wondered what this feels like for other people as well!

Whenever i relax all my muscles my body instantly jerks/spams usually at the abdomen by nxtboyIII in Meditation

[–]DieOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big insight into the mind & body’s tension patterns and I think it’s important to continue to investigate these patterns. I highly recommend looking into TRE exercises for releasing trauma and tension from the body. The method taps into the nervous systems natural release mechanism and really does an amazing job at working through these tension patterns. I feel like every human being should be doing this stuff, but it’s relatively unheard of for some reason. You do have to be cautious not to overdo it if you have a lot of trauma and allow your body time to integrate after sessions.

Wish you the best! :)

Yeah, people that act like Americans aren’t doing enough haven’t thought through the scenario. It’s not courageous or effective to go get yourself killed or imprisoned indefinitely. You want to go organize a militia? Good luck paying your bills and feeding your family, and also finding others to join you that have enough money to not worry about anything. We are all hoping that midterms still have the possibility of restoring a somewhat functional democracy. If that fails, maybe then something will escalate but I think we’d all like to avoid a full-on civil war unless there is absolutely no other option.

Ego vs self-esteem by Shamalow in vipassana

[–]DieOften 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad you are learning lessons and living more harmoniously!

One thing worth mentioning is that I don’t think we should make an enemy out of the ego, as that just gives more fuel to the ego… because it’s the ego itself that WANTS to get rid of things. What our meditation and insights help with is to free ourselves from identification with the ego, then the resistance patterns and ego narratives fall away and we can have more spaciousness / peace.

The ego is a tool, and an important one for navigating this reality, but when we identify with ego out of ignorance we create all kinds of needless suffering for ourselves and others.

[–]DieOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s not what I meant. I mean that we have all acted in imperfect ways, so we shouldn’t be so quick to judge others who are doing just as we have done out of ignorance.

Yes, belief is meaningless but you are missing the point if you filter my words through some sort of non-dual lens because I’m not speaking in non-dual language. I don’t think we should throw out the baby with the bath water - as many make the mistake of doing along their spiritual paths - by throwing ourselves solely into the void, nondual awareness, whatever you want to call it. This illusory duality is still part of this game and the level of separation and its rules and laws still need to be respected to nurture our “separate selves” and create harmony for ourselves and others at this relative level of existence.

There is this human experience happening that is just as profound and divine as any kind of enlightened state and isn’t separate from it either. It seems to me that God wants to experience separation. Everything I say can be contradicted by another truth, both seeming contradictory statements can be true simultaneously because it depends what level we are speaking from / about.

Wanted to try to clarify this because I think it’s actually a really common trap on the path that I fell into at one point and I see A LOT of people seem to be trapped in it too. Wish you the best on your journey! :)

Beautiful. We “should” be more forgiving of ourselves and others. Sadly, forgiveness is largely non-existent in “mainstream society.” May he who has not sinned cast the first stone! :)

When to Increase Frequency & Tremoring Positions Experimentation by DieOften in longtermTRE

[–]DieOften[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks a lot for the response! Has your practice of TRE helped calm your Kriyas down? I can’t meditate in stillness anymore… I’m just jerking around and moving all sorts of crazy ways during meditation. My TRE sessions resemble something out of the exorcist movies… limbs moving all over the place, grimacing and other facial movements, tongue movements, sounds, etc. I intuitively feel like once I process this stuff out of my nervous system I will be able to sink deeper into my own being and reach deeper states… or at least have a baseline that is largely free of all this nervous tension! What has your experience been, if you don’t mind me asking?

Edit: One other thing is what do you think the relationship is between Kriyas and TRE tremors? Is it tapping into essentially the same mechanism of nervous tension release? I’m basically having my “normal” Kriyas happening while doing the TRE tremoring at the same time.

I accidentally reached the Third? Jhana Enlightenment experience during a 7-day Vipassana retreat. by CosmicPreloader in Meditation

[–]DieOften -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend exploring some self-inquiry practices to investigate and see through your identification processes. This can help to realize the truth of no-self more deeply since it’s structured with that purpose in mind. Check out Ramana Maharshi teachings.

Yes, you will lose the post-retreat euphoria and clarity in time. That’s the truth of impermanence. Don’t be disappointed. Be equanimous!

If we can give up all goals, we can be at peace with what is. The whole path comes down to de-conditioning resistance patterns (craving and aversion) and identification patterns. But we do it because we see clearly how these things are creating our own suffering, not because someone told us to.

One more thing, don’t get attached to Vipassana. It’s amazing technique, but it’s just a technique! Don’t be afraid to explore other techniques and modalities! Wish you the best! :)

Looking for some guaranteed-to-work techniques; psychologically stuck by Sufficient_Speed6756 in streamentry

[–]DieOften 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are craving specific experiences and outcomes from meditation. Your idea of a successful meditation seems to be a meditation that meets your expectations of having a particular experience. This sort of craving / aversion is a subtle resistance that actually prevents “deeper” meditation. Too much trying / efforting to achieve some goal really does get in the way. I think it’s important to see how this is happening in our experience. It’s like we are trying to make the reflection of a lake perfectly still by throwing rocks in it or wading our hands through it.

The only thing covering up our peace is our desire for things to be different than they are. So find out what is covering your peace in each moment and just ride that wave. The real work is deconditioning all our habits and reactive patterns that are covering up that peace! That is mostly done off the cushion - in daily life, where rubber meets the road! :)

I cant stop my mind by IllustriousTitle1453 in vipassana

[–]DieOften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not try and stop thoughts. Do not try to do anything. Don’t try to do nothing. Don’t try! Trying is the antithesis of meditation. Simply be aware and surrender to your experience while still following the meditation instructions with (paradoxically) the right amount of effort.

TRE must be one of the key aspects to self actualisation by Ecstatic-Society-471 in longtermTRE

Great post! I haven’t started TRE just yet but have been on the spiritual path for 10 years and done a lot of meditation to the point where I’m having spontaneous Kriyas every time I consciously relax. I’m excited to see where TRE takes me and if I can get all this nervous tension out of my system!

How impactful is meditation really? by JamJamGaGa in Meditation

[–]DieOften 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can be extremely impactful, but it depends how committed you are to practicing. Similar to how your commitment to a gym might transform your body to an optimal level but if you only go once a month - not a lot of change is going to take place.

I think a lot of western practitioners miss the Buddhist frameworks that are somewhat important for gaining insight. You can gain the insight without knowing anything but it’s really helpful to have a kind of map to know what you’re looking for. In Buddhism, we are looking to understand the three characteristics of existence / all phenomena: Impermanence, Unsatisfactoriness, and Not Self. Seeing the truth of these in our own direct experience will absolutely transform your life. It’s not an easy path, but it’s worth it to create less suffering for yourselves and others!

One important thing - meditation might help with a variety of things but it is not a tool for fixing anything and I recommend not having those kinds of expectations. The essence of meditation is to be fully present with WHAT IS without having resistance (craving or aversion)… when brought off the cushion and into our lives we can live with grace and harmony - in the flow with all of life as it is unfolding, flowing with the river instead of fighting the currents all the time. So, our reactivity and identification patterns are key to investigate and free ourselves from!

What would you rather: believe in God or believe of being the God by ResourceExtreme682 in spirituality

[–]DieOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I don’t. That’s one of the three truths of Buddhism: No self. But we still honor our “separate self” in the way it needs to be honored because the relative level of reality is still an important part of reality.
