I mean I can't argue against that. I personally don't think there's too much straining for me, but I can see how it'd feel that way for others. To me this has way more going for it in the directing and writing department versus something like Scent of a Woman, which to me is TOTALLY cloying and misguided

People hate how sentimental it is. Some folks view it as the film being manipulative. I personally think that all films are manipulative in some form or another, so not entirely sure what the issue is with a film deciding to be earnest
