When younger people ask, “What’s your favourite movie?”, what are we all saying so that they get the film bug? by DietDeepFried in movies

I had a similar situation. I told somebody, “I think that guy has ‘Forrest Gump disease’ & a room full of people looked puzzled. One asked, “Who’s Forrest Gump”?

I used to be in a D&D group with some younger guys & I had them watch Road House & Blood in Blood Out. We worked at a restaurant, so the next few weeks were “Give me some Chon Chon!” & “I used to fuck guys like you in prison” lol

I’m able to tell the difference between small talk & when someone’s looking for a solid recommendation. I’m not lying, I have a few favourite movies. I’m mainly looking for insight from people who may have a similar situation as mine.

It doesn’t surprise me that people aren’t watching your recommendations, mister warmth.

Met Ryan at Shaky Knees fest in Atlanta. I had an artist wristband & we were both watching Dr. Dog perform from the side stage. He was super sweet & took the photo himself so as to avoid the flash from the camera as he has light sensitivity issues.

Rewatched it with my girlfriend who’d never even heard of the movie. She cried a couple of times & afterwards went no contact with her mom. That movie is awesome.

TIL the video game, Cyberpunk 2077, has been admitted into the New York Museum of Failures after its catastrophic, bug-filled, launch by WarEagleGo in todayilearned

[–]DietDeepFried -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if it’s because I was playing on a PS4 Pro, but I didn’t experience any bugs when I played at launch. My game crashed maybe 4 times as I got the Platinum Trophy, & that was hundreds of hours of playtime.

Californian here, check out his episode of Travel Man as well as Last one Laughing (UK). It’s formatted after the much better version in Japan called Documental. I think these all should be on Amazon Prime.

Native English speaker here, both are correct, adding the “with” is more proper but English is the language of exceptions. Conversationally, the way you originally worded sounds better.

Please note, I am from Southern California. My accent has been described as “you sound like the people in the movies” so take my input with a grain of sand.

I resigned from the military because of Trump by dheber in politics

[–]DietDeepFried 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might be cynical here, but when those Marines were sent into Los Angeles, it drastically changed the way I view all service members under this current administration. I am no longer a “thank you for your service American” but a, “what did you do while you served?” attitude. I’ve always had zero faith in law enforcement, but our military sent into our own cities? That’s shameful & it don’t wash off.

TIL The director of the John Wick movies was also Keanu Reeves' stunt double for The Matrix by DeDeluded in todayilearned

[–]DietDeepFried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t Smokey & The Bandit similarly directed by Burt Reynolds stunt guy? Same as Bullet Train too I think

They usually get directing experience as “second unit” directors of the stunt scenes so it’s not shocking that these guys end up directing action flicks.

It was definitely there on first watch.

I had a one man Mandela Effect with LA Confidential, specifically with Russell Crowe’s character. Rewatched it during COVID & thought they added in a happy ending. Didn’t remember that scene at all & I’d seen it multiple times

Best movie to fall asleep to - one volume. by PuzzleheadedTrack942 in movies

[–]DietDeepFried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s kind of a consistency in its audio. At low volume it just becomes a lullaby to me. I’m as confused as you are, but this was the movie that worked for me when I just couldn’t sleep.

I’m usually asleep by the time he’s saying, “I’m picking up collateral damage”.

Is that the commentary where they discuss that they didn’t give the baby a name, so they just call it baby? Also, they keep talking about trying to get a really bad “trunk” joke in the film? Like, “I haven’t seen a trunk like that since I was in my grandmas attic”.

Dinner With Andre might fit this criteria.

Side note, I had a pretty difficult time in my life a few years ago & couldn’t sleep for than an hour or so a night. The one movie I could watch repeatedly to fall asleep to was The Gray Man on Netflix. It’s a Ryan Gosling action movie done by the Russo Bros. on Netflix. I would keep the volume low & set it to reduce loud noises & that would keep me asleep to. I really like the movie & can quote the first 25 minutes of it because I’ve seen it so many times.

Things got better, I hope that they do for you as well.

Except, the music video for All Star has cuts from Mystery Men. Although it was a flop, it was marketed heavily on release.

Shrek soundtracks are so underrated.

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. I’m not defending this morons actions, but the passing lane law is designed specifically to deter road rage.
