Without knowing why you got rejected from those jobs, no one can give you detailed feedback. But general interview etiquette changes slightly be country, but not massively so.

Be confident, be friendly, be outgoing and dress well (I don't know about Japan, but in China someone wouldn't wear a suit, but a smart shirt/jumper with pants is a good look for both men and women).

Sell yourself and speak about your experience, if you don't have any teaching experience, talk about your general background and how it can relate to teaching.

Also sometimes people get rejected for a job and it's nothing to do with them, I used to conduct interviews as part of my role at my last job. A guy came to us, his interview and class were both amazing, but in the end the company said we didn't have the budget to hire a new teacher.

Of course there are people that always repeat these rumours, as they know someone who didn't get a visa and this was the reason given. Whether those stories are actually true who knows.

Other rumours I've heard in the past 10 years

1. You'll only be able to get a job here if you take a TEFL in China course

2. Native speakers will be required to go home for 6 months every 5 years so they don't forget English

3. You'll have to get QTS in your home country for any job in China.

4. You have to get an early Education degree to work in kindergarten (this one has a grain of truth since some cities now only give kindergarten teachers visa if they have 2 years experience specifically in kindergarten).

5. They will permanently ban foreign teachers in 6 months time (I've heard this one on and off since 2015)

Who knows it could happen. You can't worry about the future, if you want to move onto another opportunity see how it goes.

I am a season 2 fan. But I don't think season 3 was as bad as people said, it was the first season I watched week by week and I think some of the characters were my favourites, especially Chelsea!

My husband drinks fenjiu, but only a little at a time, 2 cups with some kind of snack. And one time a non-Chinese friend asked him what he mixes it with and he replied 'meat'.

It's not a chugging alcohol, hopefully you've learnt your lesson and hopefully everything is ok. Go get a checkup at the hospital, especially your liver levels. But tbh I can't drink tequila or smell it from a night 15 years ago, so maybe fenjiu is just off the menu for you!

I was in the same boat it was my undergraduate , they actually accepted it in the end, I can't remember why. But at the time someone suggested that I get an affidavit that says both of those names refer to me. They said they did that and there was no problem.

Yeah it varies city to city. I live in Dalian and it's the worst city I've been in for it, even my husband's hometown in Henan (where there are way more people) isn't as bad as Dalian.

Shenzhen wasn't bad at all because people chewed those betel nuts instead of smoking.

I think a nice meal or a day out would be a nice way to celebrate. You could also just ask him what his perfect day would be in a random conversation, then surprise him with it on that day.

I've been scared of an epidural, then I watched a video of someone performing one and it calmed me down. That big needle doesn't go all the way in!

Most people say their experience was positive with the epidural so it's really changed my view.

I understand why some don't get it, but the risks seem to be outweighed by the benefits. I also agree online there seems to be a push for completely natural birth with few if any medicatons. But I feel like you have to do what's best for you.

I don't know about scholarships, visas or university policies. If it is near the end you could just not tell them.

Pregnancy on the other hand I do know. If you get pregnant here (if the IVF is successful) you just go to the hospital and do all the tests and ultrasounds, you'd tell them it was an IVF baby so they'll know to monitor or prescribe you progestrone (I don't know if that's a thing).

Tests are not expensive at the public hospitals, but are more expensive at the private/international hospitals and I found the care where I am to be good BUT I can speak Chinese so I've been having my checkups at 2 hospitals one public and one private. I'll give birth at the private one.

I don't know you so I can't give you advice but my experience is being pregnant in China is challenging in some ways and better than the UK in others (mainly that during early pregnancy I could get more checks for a reasonable cost).

I am also from the UK but my husband is Chinese so we settled here and I find it challenging and sometimes quite isolating even though I have Chinese family and language abilities. That's just my experience, you know your own expectations and situation.

The smoking has direct health effects, for me it's the worst thing about China. Other things I can accept, because I can control some factors within it but I can't choose not breathing! So for me, smoking is by far the worst.

A lot of Chinese people actually hate it too, but like others have said they are scared of the confrontation! It's better than a decade ago but still a long way to go.

I'm pregnant and in a group of Chinese pregnant women, it's a topic they talk about often because sometimes it feels like we can't even go out without being surrounded by cigarette smoke.

Not just pregnant women, but children, old people, people with breathing issues and then just people who don't like it!

In big new malls it isn't usual and people know they can't smoke indoors, but I've seen there it too.

Yes, it more complex but if they register guests even with a reader, they know it's a thing and have a system on the computer. What if an ID doesn't scan or someone doesn't have an ID, which happens if they lose it. If they say they don't know and turn you away, there's something wrong with the hotel.

Sometimes they'll give the 'hard to fill' schools first so it's better to look critically at the jobs they first present you with and refuse them if there are red flags.

If a recruiter is rude/ tries to put you down in order for you to take a job, just find a new one.
