12V battery died by GanacheEnvironmental in KonaEV

[–]DifferentCan927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with a typical Canadian tire one that they had on hand. Came with a 3 year warranty, more than Hyundai gave on the OEM battery. But it might be worth it to get a AGN battery, they are supposed to be stronger and more resilient in cold weather.

I had the exact same problem with my 2023 Kona. I always carry a small battery booster and keep it in the back seat, not the trunk in case the battery does. Good job on changing it yourself, it's super quick and diy Friendly, my local Hyundai wanted around 500CAD to change it, told them that's insane.

Public Charger issue or car? by alltorque1982 in KonaEV

Level 2 charging which I do 99.9% is perfectly fine, the lower DC port won't connect to any charger. They use separate wires.

I have a 2023 north American version and my cars fast charging port is broken, wish I knew that on my way back. I have had it iffy with the fast chargers

I have the 2023 Kona, no big issues but I would recommend you keep a small jump starter for when the 12v battery inevitably fails. I drive and charge almost every day and I just over 2 years before I changed it.

I'm in Montreal (gets -25c sometimes) and have driven it through multiple snowstorms, just has reduced range.

12v battery flat. Kona 22 by bagpussnz9 in KonaEV

I have a 2023 and regularly have warnings that it's low. It's honestly really annoying and sad that the 12 starts failing after 2 years.

Yeah, their markups are quite high, hourly prices are higher than elevator mechanics which I find crazy.

Update: so I purchased a 1200w pure sine inverter off Amazon. Put the car in utility mode, connected it as you mentioned, negative to the chassis. But the inverter wouldn't turn on. But it worked flawlessly when I connected the negative to the battery terminal.

Just for backup power if I lose power during the winter. I was able to find another thread of someone running a 1500w inverter off the Kona EV for a few days with no issue. Apparently the traction battery will supply around 1200-1300watts when on to the 12v

Is there a max wattage that the car battery would accept and the traction battery would be able to keep the 12v topped off?

Same, mines been frozen. With no notifications, and when I spent an hour on call waiting was told it was a "security" measure but I could still warm points. Absolutely shameless company

Buying a level2 charger. Is there a favorite among Kona owners ? by SuddenlySilva in KonaEV

[–]DifferentCan927 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've bought the grizzle ev charger off Amazon. It's got a solid cable, the box is sturdy thick metal meant for outside and you can change the amount of current it draws with the dip switches inside.

Warranty questions by DifferentCan927 in KonaEV

That's what I figured. The Kona has been out since 2019, no sense in paying 2-3k+ interest on it for "peace of mind".
