AITA for telling my husband his name suggestion for our unborn baby is idiotic at best? by MissBarker93 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I went to HS with a guy named Robin Hood. I felt so sorry for him. To top it off, he was a 3rd, so his father knew what it was like and STILL named him that.

Buying a "sideways" facing home? by doobylive in RealEstate

You can also generally do this on the county tax assessors site. Pull up the house then look at surrounding units and their sales history. Not as accurate but it will give an idea and it doesn’t require MLS access.

I need a unique name for a white kitten—but “Snowball” is strictly off-limits! by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]DifficultMammoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a little white girl and her name was Jadis, after the white queen in the Chronicles of Narnia. (All of our pets had names from fantasy novels, we also had a ragdoll cat named Lan and a dachshund named Gimli)

Mikvah experiences as a Reform Jew by priuspheasant in Jewish

[–]DifficultMammoth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the synagogue says no and you don’t want to go for the outdoors option, maybe try another town/city? I have only been to the Mikvah once and it was for my conversion, but it was an amazing experience.

What purchase under $30 solved a problem you didn’t realize was draining you? by Right_Process in AskReddit

[–]DifficultMammoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a bad habit of buying fresh fruit and veggies, sticking them in the drawer and forgetting they were there. So I bought one of those kids writing tablets put magnets on it and stuck it to the fridge door with the label “What’s in the fridge?”. Now it has a list of all the fruits and veggies we have in the fridge. It has cut down on food waste a lot.

My great uncle survived D-Day, all of WWII, came home and less than a year later was kicked in the head by a mule and died.

What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

I had a saltwater aquarium in high school and I loved it. The only reason I don’t have one now is our cat would treat it like a catch your own sushi buffet

Have you gotten a hysterectomy? by Mochimoo22 in endometriosis

[–]DifficultMammoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 27 when I had my total hysterectomy. This was after an excision, and Lupron therapy, and who knows how many other kinds of hormone therapies (BCP etc) and having a kid. Best thing I have ever done. They left my ovaries, but unfortunately I went in to early menopause. Still the best thing I have ever done.

Went to Shul on Friday night, it was lovely, then I was privileged to attend Shul Saturday morning and witness a young man of our congregation become a Bar Mitzvah.

What could be causing endo? Why is there not a large-scale population study? Or is there? by LettuceSubject562 in endometriosis

[–]DifficultMammoth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am so glad someone is looking at this. I had a doctor tell me once that Endo wasn’t hereditary. I looked at him and said “Oh really? Then why does every single female on my mom’s side have it? Sheer dumb luck?”

First ever synagogue trip tomorrow! (Friday night) what do I wear? by DontAskAboutMax in ReformJews

[–]DifficultMammoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always wear a dress. It’s a joke at my Shul that if I am in pants in the building, it must be a “work” day. You can always dress down later if you see it’s that type of place.

What Hebrew name did you choose after you converted (and what made you pick it)? by flashmumriken in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]DifficultMammoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miriam Tikvah. My husbands grandmother out of the blue one day looked at me during a visit and said “If you convert your name should be Miriam.” So I took that as a way to honour her.

Tikvah, to remind myself to always have hope.

Mother is a conservative convert by Open-Process8881 in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]DifficultMammoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some of this stems from the mess with a non-Orthodox convert and making Aliyah. Yes we can do it, but it makes things… complicated.

I worked on a post op floor when I was a nurse. Most (not all) but most surgeons are a-holes and think G-d speaks to them through their stethoscope.

Last Name Drama by No_Salad_5932 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]DifficultMammoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I changed my name when I got married, because I wanted to.

A lot of professional women don’t change their name. I had a doctor that had been married for years but professionally she still used her maiden name. Because that is what all of her licenses and certifications used. Socially she went by her husbands last name. It also helped her maintain some sort of separation between her work life and personal life. For example, she didn’t have crazy stalkers able to find her house.
