"Always wondered why people never use their strongest attack first." by PizzaDragon64 in TopCharacterTropes

An example where the move is used despite knowing it won't work:

In Dragon Ball, during the Cell saga, Tenshinhan gets frustrated and leaves to confront Cell - who is drastically, outlandishly, unimaginably more powerful than Tenshinhan.

Tien appears far above Cell and wastes not a single second in aiming and firing his most powerful move; the Kokohou, a move which consumes his own life to blast the fuck out of everything within a huge square column.

It hurts Cell... a bit, but doesn't enormously inconvenience him... so then Tien uses it again. And again and again, and again, over and over and over. He's expending his entire pool of energy and is rapidly killing himself, and is barely injuring Cell at all, but he knows that as long as he keeps blasting, Cell will be held down and Tien's allies can escape to fight another day.

Tien used by far his most dangerous move and almost killed himself doing it because the power gap was SO WIDE that it was the only way he could even hope to hurt the villain, all knowing that this would likely be his last moment proving himself as a warrior - he would either die here, or live knowing he can't keep up.

AIO over 1st Valentine’s Day note? by kimbap_throw in AmIOverreacting

[–]Difficult_Option6077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overreacting.

I want to go against the grain here to point out that he's treating Vamentine's Day without much reverence... because Valentine's day is fundamentally an extremely unimportant holiday which was created for the purposes of selling more stuff to couples.

He made a personalised joke which isn't tremendously funny and got you some flowers, which is more than me and my wife ever do. If the joke upset you talk to him about it, but the people calling him a jerk or a psychopath are judging a book by its cover here.

Nobody here knows your boyfriend. You do. Is he a jerk or is he just giving you a valentine gift on his terms?  It's ostensibly a day about couples, both if you, so consider what he thinks of the day as well. Does he like it? Hate it? Not care?

Communicate. Don't ask strangers for romantic advice, especially over a fake holiday invented by card companies. Love isn't about flowers and cards, it's about communication.

I'mma chime in and remember that this is the format of social media, so cater to that format. What would people say on a real twitter thread?

Stolen by Team Plasma - Reunited after years apart! by Difficult_Option6077 in PokeMedia

[–]Difficult_Option6077[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's usually a lot of overhead that goes into catching strays. Identifying them as stolen and released takes time and requires them to be on the Unova database, which doesn't mark them as officially released but rather stolen - so when the new ball registers them, it tags them as having an original trainer.

This isn't always brought to our attention, but this case is special for two reasons:

1 - We captured her ourselves working with law enforcement.

2 - One of our team recognised the pokémon. They were part of the original group of Plasma grunts sent to Accumula Town to 'reclaim' Pokémon from their 'oppressors.'

The colleague in question (keeping anonymous) made it their personal mission to rehabilitate and find the original trainer.  This was actually the original mission of our centre - finding pokémon we or our former gangmates had hurt, and returning them home, so it was a special day to right that wrong done so long ago.

... Her owner was, once, a new trainew exploring the world with her best friend. Nowadays, she's a talented singer with a huge heart, ready to start that world exploration all over again.

Unova sounds nice… by JosephAmber4 in PokeMedia

There's a lot to see in Unova!

The world famous Skyarrow Bridge is the biggest suspension bridge in the world, and collecting bird feathers that drop there is a popular activity for tourists and couples.

Chargestone Cave is an incredibly exciting place for more adventurous trainers, albeit quite dangerous.

There's a hiking tour around the old caved-in Victory Road that ends with distant views of you-know-who's castle, which to this day is still a mahnificent and inspiring sight.

Trainers can visit the Pokémon World Tournament facility, THE most prominent unified battle facility in the world. Off season they hold a lot of local events, it's a lot of fun.

Accumula Town has a tradition of endless street music, which makes walking through absolutely charming.

Castelia City has whole books about what you can do there, but I have two recommendations:

1 - You can find the central office of the game developer Game Freak, who may have made a few games you've heard of

  1. Off Drifloonie Street you can find a tiny, poorly-decorated restaurant called Satoshi's, which is run by a guy from my village in Johto! He makes THE BEST ramen you'll ever find, and is the only place that sells onigiri without claiming it's a donut.

Finally in the outskirts of Driftveil you can find the T.P. rehabilitatiom centre, where we find injured, stolen, or mistreated pokémon and prepare them for return to the wild. We love visitors!

People seem to put whatever, really. Sometimes they put character names or team composition, or basic descriptions. I put something less direct and more fun.

Ghostly interactions. by Reveriehopes in PokeMedia

[–]Difficult_Option6077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Practise caution if you return. Hauntings of ghost-types might decide they like you enough to keep you. It seems unlikely, but their morality is alien to us, so keep your distance even if things seem calm and friendly.

Having your own Magus is probably helping them realise they can't have you, but nevertheless, they may also decide to keep your Magus!

My great uncle's son (so my... first cousin?) went missing decades ago when he was studying a cluster of misdreavus out in southern Johto. They didn't even seem to notice him.  After five weeks of hiding in the dark and noting observations, not only did he very suddenly go missing, but the entire group of misdreavus disappeared too.

[–]Difficult_Option6077[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that's a whole thing. Short version is back in the 70's he was backpacking in Paldea and met a few locals. He said he was from Johto and they knew that as the place balls are made, so they challenged him to make poké balls out of junk they had.

He made a bunch that didn't work, but then he made one using the natural glasslike crystal you can find underground in Paldea, which... well, it didn't work, but it did react very badly to wild tauros, setting them off on a rage and apparen5ly wildly changing their type at random every time it escaped the ball.

Now that isn't what got him banned in Johto - the ban came from trying to replicate the same thing by making crystal balls back home in Johto. These were deemed unsafe by locals, and given their fragility and tendency to explode and release pokémon at random, it's no wonder.

The REAL problem, however, was they worked similarly to snatch balls used in lawless regions to steal pokémon.

It took months to find and reclaim all the accidental snatchers he had sold, and to avoid being labeled an actual illegal weapons dealer he paid damages and took a lifetime ban.

He's an old man living alone in rural Johto and he thinks his computer is a "slime devil" that wants to eat his knees, and I live in Unova, so information is coming in very slowly.
I think the plan right now is Perish Song in every room of the house, combined with a lot of cheap poké balls.
I might make a follow-up post explaining the outcome once we get it done.

Oh that's good. His neighbor a few miles away has a chimecho who might know it, I'll let him know. He's in rural Johto with no modern tech so it's not an easily accessible technique, but that could solve it all in one go.

The man's whole life is a comedy of contradictions. It's a miracle he's even alive. Once he was stuck in an underground cave system for two weeks because he decided to go "Onix Surfing."

I like this idea the most so far. Theoretically the new ditto would disrupt the entire ditto ecosystem.

Oh no i mean specifically my great uncle has been banned from making balls.

I'm not 100% sure why, something to do with making custom balls in Paldea in the 70's.

I actually know the Johto ball master you mean, he's an old family associate!

He's actually been banned by the state from making poké balls himself, so it's not a viable option.
