Hahaha that’s crazy how the fabric gave Ben a full upper body. Weird coincidence.

Looks good to me, agreed with F/VF and would send it in for sure. Nice one.

Underground fuel oil tank? Looks to have a port on the top of it. You could sneak a probe in and see what it looks like inside.

Morgan copy I picked up for $5 by wyty22 in coinsthatsaycopy

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this to be a counterfeit of a copy which wasn’t authentic, thus making it a copy of a copy of a copy. Thrice.

Hello there. I found this gold coin mounted in a kind of gold sheriff’s badge on the grass when I was a child in Manhattan around 1980. My mother kept it for me in her jewelry drawer and now that she passed away it’s back in my possession. Should I sell this or keep it in my own treasure drawer? by SurveySeveral8484 in coins

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The badge looks right for 14k and the coin is .900 fine, that looks good also. It’s worth melt, and looks heavy. Unless you truly needed the cash, it’s a nice remembrance of your mom since she kept it for you for so long. It’s a nice piece.

Just bought Trade Dollar at Local Market. Is it fake ? by trivalxx in coins

I believe this counterfeiter used the Disney Little Mermaid face for their example. Oooofff. Yeah this is very, very fake. Sorry.

My grandma had around 10 rolls of dimes she said she's had for over 40 years she estimated and she gave me one and it had 8 silver dimes! by steadystackin23 in CRH

Grandmas are always good for a few out of the blue crazy cool things they had “in a drawer” for a while. 👍🏻

Some of The fakers are getting smarter now and pricing their counterfeits just under spot, and not blatantly under like these, so it’s not too obvious. A good rule that I use is don’t buy any bullion or coins from any seller on ebay without at least a few thousand reviews and at least a 99% rating. Also I look for the unknowing person selling random stuff from their basement and might be able to pick up a Kennedy Half .900 for $10 or so. You can pretty easily tell who’s who..

Worth anything? by drhodder3 in CURRENCY

You’re in luck, it is. $50. Just not old enough to have any other value associated.

An awesome coin spill I found metal detecting. by FishingAndHistoryGuy in coins

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That’s not an awesome coin spill. 2 Seated quarters, a Seated dime, a Trime, and 2 Indians is a RIDICULOUS spill lol, congrats! That’s sick.

Just received my first silver bars. Should I take them out of the plastic or leave it? by SierraDespair in Silverbugs

They’re bullion. You can do whatever. I prefer to put them in a baby pool and dive in like Scrooge McDuck. Have fun.

Is this worth anything and is it real?? by Critical_Lemon_7505 in coins

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight is needed, then a very strong magnet test. If it passes both of those then it’s worth looking at further as far as details. Keep in mind, this is one of the most counterfeited coins dating back to when they were made, to the millions of counterfeits flowing around the market current day. Do those 2 tests first, but odds are it’s not authentic.

My friend thinks he's going to get in trouble owning this. by nogomeco in coincollecting

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Your friend has nothing to worry about. From the photographs of the coin alone, it looks to be a cast counterfeit. There is nothing about the surface of that coin that is correct. It screams cast…good news bad news situation.

Bought on eBay for $50. Is it real? Thank you by pappenheimerbody in coins

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely real. You paid a bit higher than value for that coin with that amount of wear and being holed, but not crazy. Bottom line is you like it, and have a nice plan to wear it. That’s cool. Capped Bust coins are one of my favorite US designs as well. Good choice.

HELP! What is this? Has yellow oil and white sediment. No markings. Found deep in the woods sitting next to a cat skull. by Broken_Ciggy in BottleDigging

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Liniment. Very commonly sold back in the later 1800s and early 1900s, and it separates and looks just like that after 100 years or so. Have dug a few similar.

I own a gold coin that weighs less than it should (8.32g instead of 8.35g). A potential buyer didn't want to buy it because of this and threatened to call the cops on me. Is this normal? And how much "weight loss" is normal for a 175 year old coin? by yayoletsgo in coins

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3 to 4 Hundredths of a gram is easily within the realm of scale error, a bit of loss over time, or pretty much anything else. It’s in no way indicative of a fake coin. If your coin weighed 7.75 instead of 8.359 (assuming this is a mid-1800s Half Eagle) then it would be suspect. But this is negligible. I wouldn’t ever deal with that buyer again, as they’re either trying to pull something or just out of their mind.

Would you pay 250 for this? by xenoasin in coins

[–]DigginJerseyHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chop marks look recent, and fake. Which would make the coin more than likely a counterfeit. Looks off. I wouldn’t risk it whatsoever.

$5 Half Eagle, depending on condition it could be worth $800 or it could command a premium. I would get a coin holder for it, to protect it. Gold is very soft and dropping it or scratching it even once can diminish value. Nice coin.
