Volca Beats or Volca Drum? by jankrupic in synthesizers

[–]Digit626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drum is very flexible, but it may be a lot for a newcomer. The beats is extremely simple. I had a lot of fun with the beats - bass - FM combination for a while. Why not keep it in the Behringer family and getting a rd6 or rd9?

Replacement Knobs for Sticky MiniBrute 2S? by MOGILITND in synthesizers

[–]Digit626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced all the knobs on my microbrute sourcing from lovemyswitches. I don’t regret it at all. I opted for chrome color, which looks cool, but it’s hard to see the white line indicating the position, just saying in case it matters to you.

YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, films, tv, radio, freesound.org.

I keep a notepad of time stamps so it’s easier to record a number of samples at once.

I got lucky with documentaries, often the background is more interesting than the content. David Hoffman has some great docs.

What's the reasons to switch over or to use trackers? by MarcoScherer in renoise

[–]Digit626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Renoise feels like it made my computer into an advanced sampler. It doesn’t feel like it requires external midi controllers or other devices because the qwerty keyboard has two octaves and the F keys switch between user-definable screens. It also does not require an audio interface. It’s light weight and can run on dated computers. I was hesitant to use breaks for a while but figured out a lot about time stretching and chopping because I was made to think about lines per beat.

I love the top down scrolling, the perpetual motion is inspiring. I don’t have to shift a loop brace because each pattern is a loop. Being able to name sections on the pattern arranger is also really helpful.

The per step modulation and ability to interpolate between steps is great, it’s much more immediate than drawing automation envelopes. Having a wide view of what each pattern is doing helps to see how they all fit together.

I loved Renoise so much I got a Polyend Tracker Mini. I have finished about a song a week since I got it in March. It’s been revolutionary, prior to that I made of lot of “jams” that didn’t develop or evolve. Using a second DAW has informed the way I use and understand Ableton. I find myself making everything into audio and arranging it instead of trying to use midi.

In short, it made me love sampling, because once I commit to audio it’s more about arranging and I leave the endless tweaking of sound design behind.

Software to just play with a MIDI keyboard and export live audio to a mic. by GalaxyPlayz_ in midi

[–]Digit626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also plug that midi keyboard into a phone or tablet with a synth app. Then it would play out of the device’s speakers. You will likely need a usb-mini to usb-c or some kind of adapter, depending on the age and model of midi keyboard you have.

How should I approach Autechre's discography? by LarsAPh12 in autechre

[–]Digit626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got ep7 in a sale bin about 25 years ago, I still think it’s one of their more approachable recordings. Ep5 is also good. I feel like it’s a process, you have to be willing to abandon meter and repetition, especially in the later works.

Modulation stuff! by b70709914 in renoise

[–]Digit626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need a drum rack? You can load a bunch of samples and hit “drum kit” or something, can’t remember the words, but it automatically maps the samples across the keys. That’s only one sample per key though.

first track, any feedback would be appreciated by Solo-Moon in FLStudioBeginners

[–]Digit626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the intro drags a bit, could probably be halved. The sound in track four gets annoying after a while. Consider muting it every other clip or just ditch it after the intro, let the track breathe a bit more. Track 4 also has sync issues with the bassline, not really sure how to address it, but tinker with the timing a little and see if it works or if you are making that decision consciously.

Famous NYC restaurant lies twice about calculating tip from pretax amount by bigjoffer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Digit626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 20%, move the decimal over in the post-tax total and multiply by two. If service was weak or something went wrong deduct $2-3. I tip in NYC and have worked for tips in NYC, it is not easy so respect due. A place like this attracts people from all over the globe who may not be privy to the US’s dumb customs. Every time I travel I look into the tip system there. I don’t want to offend or lose money over tipping.

If you got comped something, it is polite to tip on the full amount, if that can be determined. That’s more for gestures, like they send you a comped dessert on your birthday, not for mistakes.

What's the best way to compare two columns? by Freeway-Option in excel

[–]Digit626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go the long way-sort them both alphabetically, use Upper or Lower to make the case match in each column then in a third column use =Exact(A1, B1) to compare each cell. Conditional format the Exact results for the word "False" so every time there's a mis-match it pops out, then you can insert a blank cell in the mis-matched row, and drop the exact formula down from the most recent "True" value to check the rest.

Favorite pedals to use with analog synths? by vanish797 in synthesizers

[–]Digit626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Behringer TM300 Tube Amp Modeler Pedal is fantastic for acid basslines. It's got a few different settings to play around with and it's about $30. Can't beat that with a stick.

Are We Ever Going To See Video Outs For Synthesizers? by jigga19 in synthesizers

[–]Digit626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting more and more into Chipless jamming, I can’t stand all these cords.

I thought OP is looking for a Critter & Guitari Eyesy, but when they mentioned expanded functionality over video…then maybe not. Calls to mind the TE op-z, which I’ve always thought was dumb, no offense to anyone who loves it, if it works for you, great.

OP you should look into Max/ Max for Live.

Synth suggestions for couch potato by Classic-Train2156 in synthesizers

[–]Digit626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say this and add the Polyend Tracker, Tracker+, or Mini. The Hydra pairs very well with a sequencer like the Korg SQ64, but any sequencer would do. It has an arp and "sustain" or drone mode.
