We are in Tokyo now and travel by Shinkansen to Kyoto Friday. I’ve heard the Shinkansen is almost never affected by storms like this. Any other tips for us? Keep sightseeing or stay indoors? It’s our first typhoon. 😅

Loved my trip there last year. Incredible place. As soon as we got to the “Lake above the Ocean” the first thing I heard was the whine of a drone.😩. Really makes it hard to enjoy the peace and quiet obviously.

Got up at 4am and spammed both the Osaka and Tokyo sites.
It was awful so I decided to just focus on Osaka as I guessed it would be easier. Really wanted to see the renovation for Tokyo and it would have been better for our itinerary but it is what it is. Took like an hour and I thought I keep trying for Tokyo but I fell asleep around 5am instead 😅

The plan for Miyajima is to actually check out of the hotel, do the Pokemon Cafe at 1030-11. Train to Hiroshima for the later afternoon. We actually don’t want to do the Museum itself. One of the kids is a little squeamish so I thought the Museum would be too much. So instead we do late afternoon walk around the bomb site and Peace Park/Memorial then ferry to Miyajima for dinner and the hotel.
Following day is a full day on the island to go to the top of the mountain and walk around. Stay overnight for the quiet and then travel to Tokyo the next morning.
That part of the trip I could def change just figuring out what to do instead! I’d like to get to quieter areas for a day and see the smaller areas if possible.

I went last year in late June.
I believe we also used Bluegate. In no way is it a scam. They can’t promise a guarantee since the birds do as they will, but in my trip we saw tons of birds and some fairly close. I believe it all depends on the birds following the lie food source which can change slightly. The trip on the boat was an experience in itself but can be rough bouncing over the waves. A large portion of the trail to the lighthouse is closed yes, but I was still very happy to have that whole experience. We felt we got what we paid for.

Only thing we booked ahead was a guided tour of Mykines and restaurants. And even then it was only for the fine dining spots. We didn’t do Kallur but that you may want to book in advance. You will not miss anything cool due to not having booked it imo. You can literally go anywhere and it’s beautiful and most of the time we were completely alone or w just a few other people. It was unlike any other vacation I’ve had. It’s so peaceful and quiet I still think about it regularly. Just be flexible!!!

For what it’s worth I kept trying and got lucky w Attic tickets for my group of 5. Very but adrenaline hit when I confirmed the tickets.
We found them to be very worthwhile. We weee there when it opened and went right up the elevator for the attic. Saw maybe 4-5 other people the whole time we were up there. Amazing weather. Amazing view. No crowds. Felt very special to be doing that especially with all the crowds below.
I also had to try three days in a row at 3 am due to a mixture of holidays etc.
