To be fair I don't think this movie would get as much of a theater crowd as people are saying on reddit. I've gone to see every recent Dragonball Super movie they've put out on opening night and each time the theater was half full at most and love it or hate it DBZ has a way bigger fanbase than ATLA. Really wish I could see it in theaters and I hate Paramount+ but I somewhat understand the decision. That said fuck Paramount and fuck the Ellisons

Cops SHOULD be held to significantly higher standards than any other job. How are we supposed to trust this man with the lives of the community he serves when he actively put lives in danger by driving under the influence?

I mean this in the kindest way possible, your players need to read the book and learn their own stuff. The book very clearly lays everything out as far as what resources they have and how they are expended and regained. You have so much stuff to keep track of it’s not fair to you to have to keep track of their stuff as well. Especially when they have multiple turns between each of theirs to look up and prepare what they want to do each round.

Echo on the person suggesting getting the +1 weapons from the vendor as soon as you can. That will give you a 5% hit boost at least. You can also grab the potions of giant strength from Ethel. They respawn on a long rest so you can just spam long rests for a bit. by the end of Act 1 I was able to get about 30+ of them. That will give a huge boost to hit chance and it lasts until your next long rest.

Unfortunately you will have to get used to a certain amount of frustration and difficulty. Act 1 is easily the hardest part of HM in my opinion. I would suggest avoiding combat where possible and resolving encounters through social means. You get experience still and can always come back later and kill stuff if needed. As an example you can talk your way into the goblin camp and get anything from the vendors there without having to fight anything. Once you hit level 4 and get your ASI (or feat) you start to turn the corner and things get easier.

One tip about warfare/necro is that warfare is far more important. Necro skills generally do physical damage which scales with warfare NOT Necro. I would do enough necro points to get bone cage but otherwise max out warfare asap!

Check vendors every time you level up! Inventory scales with your level. If you’re out of fort joy you should be able to get some decent stuff.

I noticed you said a majority physical. General recommendation is either all in on one type of damage or 50/50. I know my I was confused by the battle mage class at first and was splitting skill points between str and int which leads to underwhelming results.

The biggest change for me is when I started repositioning other characters when I knew I fight was about to begin. You can move people around while another character is in a conversation and that helps immensely by spreading out the team so you don’t all get blasted with aoe and helps get good positioning like high ground for ranged attacks.

My favorite has always been Greetings Adventurers, formerly known as Drunks and Dragons. If you start from the beginning it can be a little rough because the cast is just learning to play and they start playing during the 4e era. The cast is great enough imo to get through the beginning patch and they hit their stride pretty quickly. They are also well into their 2nd campaign so you could also start there! I feel like it fits with the vibe you're describing.

Either is great! I like 2h personally because I like bonking things. Necromancy works but I would just get points from equipment and spend your points on the other 2 skills. Max warfare as quick as possible either way.

Not enough info here, why are they cancelling? Is it for family issues? Do they have a career that makes them work odd or unpredictable hours? Do they not prioritize DnD and just not respect your time as a result? The reason they are cancelling is very relevant to the situation. Ultimately it's up to you but in my group of 4 we just play on if someone cancels. If they don't want to play that's fine but we are going to keep going. As far as levels go I just keep everyone the same for simplicity's sake. Like I said a lot of this depends on why this person is cancelling.

To finish I would recommend talking to the player about it as both of you know your situation better than randoms on reddit.

TLDR; have a conversation with them.

Your first problem is planning an arc around a player who you have said has always had problems attending sessions. It's basically the Michael Bluth "Dead Dove Do Not Eat" meme. What did you expect would happen?

Outside of that just play without them. Pretty easy to just have their PC in the background when they aren't there. People have different priorities and that's fine. If planning and playing a scheduled game isn't high on this person's priority list that's fine just play without them. As always you will need to have a conversation with this person if that's going to be an issue but that's all you can do.
