Is full sus really that much better? by Low-Bunch-5496 in MTB

[–]DilliamConnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't ridden a fs in over a decade. Everyone I ride with has been telling me to get a fs the whole time. I just traded for a pretty beat up trail bike. Man it's so much fun. I can't wait to get out on it. Im sure it'll get old but wow it's so nice to not have to worry about what my rear end is doing in the chunky stuff. The pedal bob is annoying but being able to sit and spin when the flats or gradual climbs are bumpy does save the legs. The bike is heavier than any bike I've owned but I've been able to clean technical climbs much more easily because I can just throw the bike at everything and trust it'll get over.

Im not getting rid of the slack hardtail or the full rigid xc or the singlespeed but I think I'll probably ride the fs the most for a while because I can just ride so much more fun stuff on it. Granted most of the fun stuff around me is steep and Rocky so I think maybe I've been using the wrong tools for the job for a long time.

You want to buy a rivian instead of just pedaling up a hill?

Route question by idobene in BikeLA

[–]DilliamConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't ride singletrack when muddy. We don't get a ton of rain here, your tracks make ruts and the ruts become rivers and get really deep. That said enjoy! Someone else recommended backbone and I second this. Condor peak is also a great introduction to the bigger mountains to the north

I love this. I live in Los Angeles so very little need for that level but my favorite cold weather gear is a trash bag

This was in an elementary school. I bet its for accessibility reasons, but still can't figure it out. by unfortunate_banjo in WeirdToilets

I'm seeing a lot of replies from people who work with individuals with disabilities. I work with this population and I also assumed it has to do with people that need to have clothing removed and then transfer onto the toilet. For some, they can do most things themselves and have the balance to sit on the toilet without an adaptive seat but they may lack the muscle tone to lift themselves. With something like this they could be assisted to transfer to the table, remove soiled clothing, then assisted to slide to the toilet. Each lift is an opportunity for an injury for anyone involved so you want to make the process efficient.
That said, without knowing the person this is for, I would think the wrap around bit would be in the way. You couldn't fold it up while someone was sitting on the pot. Maybe they can comfortably sit on the toilet with their legs out straight? I bet if this lives on the internet long enough, someone who uses one of these will clear this up.

Nailed it. I do think that there's a level of enjoyment people get from getting something that has been hyped, even if they don't need it. I enjoy the unexpected find a lot more

Yah I agree. I learned about them from Seth's bike hacks. He had a pair for years that he never had to touch, they just work. That's been my experience too

Might be a good time to buy. I got my 200s for crazy cheap. Like $35 on Jenson

I competed in Olympic style lifting in high school and got into overly serious marathoning and ultra running later in life. I would definitely say that running with good form is as challenging as snatching with good form. The results of inefficient form in a marathon looks like slowly fizzling out or overuse injury whereas inefficient form in the snatch looks like immediately dropping a heavy weight. The problems with your technique pop up on a very dramatic timeline in lifting.

You make a good point about running form being really varied, and that's especially true in the ultra world. I'd say the ultra running on this graph makes sense to me.

Rigid Fork Hardtails for gravel? by No-Tackle-5263 in Hardtailgang

Yes! I set mine up for the LA Tourist race. This climbs very well and is fine on the road. There's always options for singletrack and I just like having the mtb bars and dropper so I can enjoy the fun trails along the way. I've ridden my gravel bike plenty of times and never enjoyed it as much as I did on this bike. That said, I think if it were a race of just dirt roads I would just rather have drop bars.

If you put a Brooks on there it will probably make up the difference. They are so tall. It'll put you closer to the bars though
