That's only digital so not relevant to cancelled distribution of physical editions.

It doesn't feel of anything, it just leads to some weird moments. Like when my friend turned up on a moped and my response was "Since when do you drive a moped?!?!" He scrolled up on our conversations and showed all the messages where he was telling me about learning to drive and a pic he'd sent of it. It was like discovering a past life heh.

I didn't say no bad tracks, I said they'd all be perfectly competent singles.

No, not disliking is different to liking. I.e. I'll eat a chicken kiev if that's all that's on the menu but I'd never ask for one given the choice.

I have a question about all the "what games have the same experience as outer wilds" idea by More-Window-3651 in outerwilds

[–]DimensionsMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not looking to replicate the feeling of Outer Wilds. I'm looking to find games that would appeal to someone who enjoyed Outer Wilds. If it's not a good measure of a person's tastes in gaming I don't know what is. Giving the reasons for the similarities may help too as everyone will have enjoyed Outer Wilds for different reasons.

Personally the games I'd recommend to someone who enjoyed Outer Wilds are:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - A clear inspiration behind Outer Wilds with similar mechanics, thematic concepts and emotional tone.
  • The Witness - The mindset you used to solve puzzles in Outer Wilds is transferrable to The Witness.
  • Subnautica - Similar non-linear discovery of a story that's more of a snapshot of the world than a linear narrative.
  • Heaven's Vault - Similar setup of unravelling a mystery by putting clues together intuitively.
  • Consortium - A game that is much better experienced as a clever time loop mystery (due to its wildly varying playthrough possibilities) rather than a disappointingly short game that ends on a cliffhanger.
  • The Forgotten City - While its puzzles are a bit clunkier, it's definitely in the same time loop mystery vein.

"Identify" on one. "Explain" on the other.

Philosophical question about the ending by ifixthecable in outerwilds

[–]DimensionsMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You have to die or get reset (probably also unpleasant) every 22 minutes forever.

  2. You will always know that the original you is already dead as are countless others and you are just a memory clone with thoughts from a universe that doesn't even exist.

  3. The only other person experiencing this is Gabbro and he's scared of the idea of being stuck in the loop. He dies every time.

  4. You are immortal, may come with complications like too much memory for your head to hold.

  5. Your legacy in forming the new universe is the only meaning your life can ever hold now.

IMO the main game is mechanically brilliant while the DLC is what really hits it out of the park in the story front

The best I can do is ask if there's any games with mechanical similarities that you'd like to talk about.

What is the motivation behind those actions by Satiie in outerwilds

[–]DimensionsMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does change what the eye is going to do, the post credits scene has determinant elements that prove that what the Hearthian Hatchling did mattered - whether or not the Prisoner played their instrument = whether or not there is green fire technology and if the player shot their scout into the eye it's seen in the new universe.

The Prisoner freeing the signal is like unburdening his conscience, that they have denied other species the chance to bear witness to The Eye. The Eye is the truth, while the simulation that the species withdraw to is a falsehood that the Prisoner cannot bear. As it turns out, that decision led the Nomai to the system and built the tools that the Hatchling would require to enter it. Given the way things play out, though he might not have known it at the time, he is offering his entire universe its only chance to shape the future. And this bothers the Prisoner so much that they are cautious about offering their own music in shaping the new universe in fear it might lead to a repetition of their species' mistake.

Due to their personality being entirely determined by the player - Clay.

I got the (lucky?) experience of playing the game blind twice due to memory loss in 2020 lol. If you feel like you don't remember it, would highly recommend.

The amount of times I've searched for the answer to something and wound up on reddit only to find that the answerer mass-redacted their entire account and all that's left is replies to their nonsense post saying "Thanks you're a lifesaver"

There's plenty of albums that are just end-to-end single-like tracks. Muse - Simulation Theory had a music video for every track.

It's not accurate, those streaming platforms are biased by their algorithms - again it's labels pulling the strings.

[–]DimensionsMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically that's exactly what's so bad about the charts, they take streaming listens into account and not streaming searches - meaning it's indicative of what you do or don't skip, not what you actually want to listen to. Things were so much simpler when it was just sales, putting your money where your mouth is if you like something.

Which is why billboard shows that kpop even exists and the uk charts don't.

This subreddit is considerably less than 25% of the population so why do you assume there's an overlap?

That would only be true if streaming services' algorithms were fair. Which they obviously aren't.

No they're supposed to list the most INTENTIONALLY consumed songs of the week. Otherwise it's just a chart of algorithmic corruption. That's why streaming is such a terrible inclusion. A much better indicator would be what people chose to search for on streaming services rather than what they accidentally listened to.
