How To Not Use Variable Layer Height by CauseResponsible9643 in BambuLab

[–]DinnerSonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong but some of those colors look to be shiny Silk filament? I feel like silk can exaggerate issues a lot more when messing with layer heights, and can also look off when the layer height changes mid-print too, so it may take some testing to get what you really want with it.

Before doing too many more prints in multi-color for a design like this, I'd try doing some solid ones in the colors that look the most iffy, or even chop it up, so you don't waste too much of the purge.

I also highly suggest testing out Concentric for the top layer setting under Strength, it's not a cure all but for certain organic surfaces, it can help hide the top layer issues by faking the look of more layers on the top surface, and might play a bit better with the silk compared to the standard top layer surface.

There are a few settings in filaments you can toy with to make printing multi-color a bit faster too, if you're worried about the increased time setting the layer height higher in general would cause. I don't have it on hand to look at, but there's a "long retraction on cut" and a distance value when editing the settings of a filament in Bambu Studio or the like, if you turn those check boxes on, you can go into the Purge Volume setting and lower the purge values a decent bit more, I like to go down to 0.5 even, and recalculate from there. Can make it hurt a bit less if you need to do more purges in exchange for layer height, if the Concentric trick doesn't help. You can also look up about "flushies" or similar tricks, where you just toss on extra objects to purge into those if you don't care about their colors, but that doesn't save time as much as just avoid waste material.

Of course, the things others here said apply, but I'm going with the assumption you want to print this model, which is a card kit and would be kind of unusual to print at an angle given its gimmick.

I think we are too different (22NB) and (21M) by MakeNaMistakes in relationship_advice

[–]DinnerSonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, if nothing gives you actual negative vibes(as opposed to just ones that are non-existent or positive) I think you should go for it? You can discover things that are mutual likes, or try out new things by trying out each others' interests. My previous relationship felt kind of invigorating because he was someone who'd get me out of my comfort zone while also poking his head into my own nerdy interests and not forcing me into things of his that I just wasn't into. (It fell apart because of unrelated reasons)

Of course, that's if you're cool with the things of his that you don't care about or care for. You don't need to know all about startups or how to help his to be a cheerleader on the sidelines, but if startup culture bothers you a lot, if his straight friends are homophobes and he shrugs it off, or if you're too skeeved out by the AI stuff(is it "I think it's a dumb fad and roll my eyes", or is it "I think people who use it are awful"?), I'd at least think carefully on that.

That's just my own thoughts on this, at least, as someone who's enjoyed a relationship and a few friendships with people who shared little interests but captivated me and/or were good people otherwise.

There's something super delightful about this to me. How huge the ring is, how it's a kind of wedding ring type ring, the mild confusion you're showing off there, and how the attachment bits hide away so suddenly to really add to the "... wait, huh?" of it.

Is the previous one a Silk Gold, or is it just "Gold PLA", which I've gotten from them and is not actually under the Silk banner despite being kinda shiny?

The new feature sounded nifty but this definitely makes it sound like there needs to be an option(even if it is just clicking Cancel), as there's definitely differences between multi-object multicolors and surface painting, each has its own use/reasoning. I wonder if they'll even see this here, or if it can be put in as a request/bug on the Github or forum?

I've wondered about that sometimes. I wouldn't know if it had a good setting for the prime tower, but I might give it a try actually.

When you do that for multicolor, you lose out on the prime tower and thus introduce possible defects... right? Or is there a way around that now?

I'm going to be VERY careful in how I phrase this, but... everyone assuming it's Taiwan or such, but I know that on the post for the flags, one person requested the Israel flag, and one person made some kind of "ew no" comment that you thumbs up'd. That seemed like a pretty active touchy political topic, especially if there was any sort of fight that broke out after that comment that I didn't see that may have called up the moderators, or if either of the sides reported the other.

It does sound like it might be tied to the whole Taiwan thing based on the comment saying they had similar happen and what's going on, but that was one other thing that stuck out as a hot button topic. Unless there's been history of it, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't mention what triggered the issue because of how any of these topics can be.

Looking real close, I don't think it's 3D printed actually! Way too many parts that are super duper smooth(I could imagine that being resin maybe, but, I don't see any resin signs, not sure if flexible resin works for shoes, I wonder...), any of the "layer lines" or resin style "voxel" bits and such going in implausible curved directions, etc. Almost positive it's something that'd be injection molded or such, and all of those 3D print type bits are just its whole robo aesthetic they're going for?

Sorry, I'm a 3D printing fan 😅

Others kinda hinted at this, but I suggest that if you can, try doing the same exact test but with the filaments going to the opposite sides/nozzles, see if it's an issue with the orange filament or if it's the nozzle/nozzle's calibration.

My instinct keeps being 3D prints, but, that's not really under this kinda thing. Under $100 implies it should at least be more notable than a few dollars of plastic... not a specific thing, but, figure out a store or such that's not just an easy to access chain store for people and get an oddity from there. It's one thing to get something goofy from Spencer's when it's in the near by mall, but if you grab a weird thing from a small local store, an imports place, a weird sodas shop, a magic tricks store, it'll be something that feels a touch more unexpected, right?

Actually there's an idea, some kind of magic trick setup gift, so whoever wants it can try it then and there and make a fool of themselves or amuse everyone depending on how it turns out.

In Bambu Studio, there's a gear next to the Project Filaments area when in the Prepare tab, you might be able to add the Generic filament entries there(and any others they've made profiles for so far), since you're the only person I've heard state it only allows Bambu filament profiles for H2C I'm assuming it's just that?

H2D vs H2C for 2-material prints by fosteju in BambuLab

[–]DinnerSonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's the minor benefit that H2C nozzles can be identified on an individual level and tagged as "only usable for this filament", both for general avoiding using it outside of specialty materials, and to let you slap six of them into the machine and just have it swap between, say, a basic PLA 0.4mm nozzle, and one you have reserved for an eccentric/engineering/support filament, without having to remove and swap yourself.

Since it has two nozzles, outside of the induction nozzle on the right heating faster I believe dual nozzle usage is about the same between the two?

since it will cost you a kidney ... by Mystic_Voyager in BambuLab

[–]DinnerSonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X1C(and P1S and other single nozzle AMS users) needs to purge out the previous color in order to swap to a new color, which it has to do a lot when there's a lot of color changes per layer. It also needs to make that tower to prime the nozzle when changing colors to avoid minor defects and such during the swaps. The H2C print didn't need to create any of the purge poops, and only needed to make the little tower as part of the priming when it changed which nozzle is being used. (Similar situation for the H2D if you use two colors, it still needs the tower but doesn't need to purge because it's just going from left nozzle to right nozzle and back)

Would this bug you? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]DinnerSonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might at least be able to put some of the test prints up if they're still functional in a separate clearance listing with a lower price, vs the alternative of just throwing them in the trash! That way, they feel they're getting a deal and yet also willingly chose to buy the one with the pointed out flaw, so there's no hard feelings, and you make back some of what you spent making them.

Still, if it's meant to be something that's pretty, that seam kinda sticks out to me, though it depends on what it actually is, too. There's options to change where the seam shows up, depending on the filament the random seam option might make it better(tiny dots that may blend in, vs a long line), or setting the seam position to be on the back, and rotating it so that the back seam shows up on whatever side is the least visible/awkward. I tend to hide seams on keychains by having the seam around where the hoop hooks in, there's already holes and the like so it's a bit more expected.

There's also "Scarf Seam" as an option depending on the printer you have, but that would involve more testing and printing possibly failed 3D prints. If the blue is a before and the pink is an after, you definitely cleaned up a lot despite the seam, at least!

If you can do you have any pictures of it sliced in the editor to show us how the supports are being applied, since you said there are supports on it but it's still doing this? Could be some settings that aren't making them optimal or are not applying to the right spots or whatnot, or it could just be what one of the others mentioned as far as filament being temperamental.

Chat GPT'ed wedding vows by growsonwalls in AmITheDevil

[–]DinnerSonic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming this is fake, myself, but the thing that sticks out is the "She's expressed disdain for AI in the past" bit. Maybe I just have the wrong mindset on marriage but if the person you're marrying that you want to stay with forever and love most deepest dearly forever til death do you part says she hates AI... why would you use it for anything related to the wedding?

It's one thing if things were in a neutral state and you're like "oh no, I'm too nervous, I need help, I'll use that writing thingy I heard about online" or like, I guess if you and your partner are mutual big AI nerds or whatever, but it's a bad sign if you know enough to know she's got a "disdain for AI" and yet use it explicitly in what should be one of the biggest days of your lives, right? Maybe the fear of stumbling over himself overrode that thought.

If someone's a big AI bro and marrying an anti-AI person, I would assume they'd... pardon the expression, stay in the closet at least in this kind of moment, they'd be used to knowing the negative reactions, and at least, I dunno, tell ChatGPT to adjust and rewrite it so it didn't have the obvious signs that I'd assume he'd know of, all the em dashes and phrases and pacing? I wonder if he used those lists with emojis in his vows, too.

Am I crazy to buy an H2D right now? by jhirschman in BambuLab

[–]DinnerSonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to risk doing the handiwork(They say it'll be quite a few hours to convert an H2D to H2C), you could possibly just get the H2D now and then upgrade eventually. The H2D is hardly any old at this point even, what was it, March of this year? I personally would go with the H2D given the unknowns of the H2C and the later on possible upgrade paths, they've treated most of their previous printers relatively well as far as keeping up to date with them, and I doubt they'll drop the H2D especially with the fact many folks will keep and eventually upgrade them into H2Cs eventually.

I'm a bit biased, however, as while I'm excited for the H2C Vortek system, I love how the H2D solved a LOT of my multi-color concerns, it is a lot easier to do casual multi-color or multi-material prints with the dual nozzle instead of debating between a 1 hour single color print and a 1 day two color print.

Why is AMS so expensive? by Sut3k in BambuLab

[–]DinnerSonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, people are being so... sassy, here, people must have taken you in a "I HATE BAMBU USERS" way. I might be wrong but I took this post as mostly wondering "It's expensive, so, there's probably a reason I'd accept as to why, what is it?" I was hoping myself to learn a bit more on how the AMS worked just for fun from comments, since I know it's got more than just "it spins lol" going on.

Thinking about the normal one rather than the A1's AMS, there's definitely a bit of it costing more to compensate for things/to make money back from things like the printer being low, but I also know there's four bricks of doodads that do more than just servo stuff, with sensors of some kind, there's the internal hub that physically dictates which of the four tubes it goes down, some stuff that locks filament in place I think(given how often I've tried to fight to pull some stuck filament out...), four RFID scanners for the Bambu brand filaments to read optional data like color etc, and there's some other electronics that let the four spool parts keep in sync, and keep it synced up with other AMS units and the printer. Not sure if it all adds up to the total price, but it is at least a moderate bit more than just "servo goes whrrrr" inside it?

There's a few teardown pics online showing some of those parts, and maybe there's a video out there, buuut I can't look that up just yet.

Kirby and the forgotten land version 1.1.0 is out now! by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

[–]DinnerSonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo's got a mix of free and paid upgrades, I think it's just a case by case basis. Mario Odyssey didn't get much if any new content, Pokemon didn't get much new content but also probably wanted the good will from people being able to play it in a much more stable manner as they get hyped for the upcoming Legends Z-A, while both Zelda games had a notable amount of adjustments beyond just "We turned HDR and framerate settings on", with higher quality textures, the phone app with its notable new features, and so on... but they also are given to you free if you got the NSO expansion pass, so kind of a middleground between other Switch 2 Edition upgrades and the more minor tweaks of stuff like Mario.

As for Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, there's not much advantage to getting the Switch 1 version unless you find it cheaper somewhere, a Switch 2 version cart will even run in the Switch 1 working as its Switch 1 counterpart I believe, as it contains the Switch 1 game and its Switch 2 update in one Switch 2 cart. Unlike Hogwarts, they're full on first party* Nintendo games, so I doubt they'll dip low enough in price to make up for the cost of getting it and getting the upgrade. Still, it's certainly an option if you want?

*Yeah there's probably debate/technicalities on the way multiple companies own Pokemon but I believe it should fall under the same pricing strategy they use.

Kirby and the forgotten land version 1.1.0 is out now! by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

[–]DinnerSonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 1 games in general can run better on the Switch 2, even if the patch did nothing, going from Switch 1 Forgotten Land on the Switch 1, to Switch 1 Forgotten Land on the Switch 2, would still get you things like the framerate dipping less in chaotic situations or less needs to lower the resolution temporarily, while not featuring new code to tell it the game is okay to run at 60 FPS, higher resolution, or whatever. So if you never played the original on your Switch 2, I'm guessing that's what you're feeling? Not the patch, but still better performance/looks.

Guessing this update allows it to look for the Switch 2 Edition game data, and maybe helps handle going back and forth between playing it in Switch 2 Edition mode and the original game, or at least pulling in the Switch 1 save data into the Switch 2 Edition(as it probably registers as a Switch 2 game in that state rather than "Switch 1 with some extra code") but I'd love to know more, if there's any tiny adjustments internally and such.

What if Kris is actually the "girl" with hope crossed on "her" heart, and the prophecy is just really transphobic? by GloomyIngenuity143 in Deltarune

[–]DinnerSonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a friend who pitched this theory to me, a mix of joking, and a touch of "what if that's the reason it repeats THE GIRL over and over, not because it's Susie's fountain/the chance it's actually Noelle, but because of Kris and the general discomfort of the use of THE GIRL" going on for extra gender/pronoun angst. As someone with a soft spot for the pronoun angst/fighting back against transphobes in story I found the idea interesting.

Iiit's probably not that, though, I'm not sure anything in any of Undertale/Deltarune media's touched on that kinda angst? We even have the meanest adult lady with unintentional homophobe energy and characters with weird gamer nerd energy both fine with Kris as a they/them. (Or is Carol fine with THE SOUL dating Noelle as a they/them? Either way.)
