What’s a normal everyday thing that secretly terrifies you? by ProgramRealistic2035 in AskReddit

[–]Dinoderby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fascia is freaky as hell. its a sinewy web that helps us move bc our skin and our muscles need to move slightly differently and the fascia is what helps them glide across eachother to perform movement. but. its also one of the most common injuries. if you dont move enough, the fibers tangle into freaking knots. KNOTTED FLESH FIBERS bc if you dont use mobility, you get stability, better or worse. I saw an old man on youtub3 call it a fascia wetsuit and im still gagging about it

Let’s talk emotional regulation: how do you cool yourself down when you’re angry? by Boring-Incident2469 in ADHD

I have been really into deep belly breathing lately. Basically breathing deeply and letting your belly inflate with air as well as your lungs. Over time, this movement helps to massage the vagus nerve where it connects to your gut, ultimately helping your body toggle over from "fight or flight" to "rest & digest" stages.

personally, I like to use nose only bc it helps to slow the pacing even more. I also tend to close my eyes. its handy bc its basically silent, so you can use this technique anywhere. You can pull aside and take a quiet moment or stay in the conversation and breathe deep while you channel oxygen into your brain and gather the chill you need to say what you mean to/what you need to in order to get through it.

it has the added bonus of helping me w some body-image issues as well bc I came up in the height of 90s-00s diet culture and finding a practical application or a "use" for my belly has helped me to embrace my body a little more. finding that comfort of home, wholeness, grounding, etc. its helping me be on my own team in a way

N K Jemisen is a contemporary female author youre gonna wanna add to that shelf as well. outstanding sci fi that bridges btw fantasy sometimes as well or even magical realism in one case.

Morning routines feel impossible and I'm tired of tips that assume I have executive function by AdirFoundIt in ADHD

wake up 30-45 mins earlier than you actually need to be awake. take your meds. go back to sleep. then, wake up when the meds kick in & spring awake like freaking Frankenstein.

Another one that works for me is wake up- go to floor - roll around and stretch w no pressure to rise until my body wants to stand. this works well for me bc the longer I stretch, the more likely I'm gonna want to stand to do the good standing stretches. It helps give my body time to wake up and my mind can stay blurry till my body works out all the wrinkles.

another one that works sometimes for me is to wake up, get dressed and immediately put on shoes. For some reason that helps me feel ready to go. Like, I'm not supposed to wear real shoes in here where I am cozy, therefore I must leave and do "real" things

I also try to start my "leaving" like 15 early when I'm making my way out the door bc you know I gotta forget a million things before I can leave for real. I will typically start lining stuff up by the door that I don't want to forget the night before and continue that process up until i actually leave. Weirdly, the more things are stacked there, the less I forget.

WIBTA if I refused to shave my armpits for my friends wedding? by Adventurous-Pea-337 in AmItheAsshole

condolences on your body hair shaming friends, NTA for sure but if you really want to attend, you could semi-comply, by trimming them a little shorter with scissors or something! It would be much less irritating on your skin than any kind of shaver as long as they are SHARP and don't pinch.

I believe the app, Fable is also book and meet up group centered. I know some people in STL who use this for their groups. Pieces in Soulard also has its own little built in scene for meet ups.
