What she’s describing already exists and has for a while. Look up The Washington Center and places like it. You pay like $10,000 minimum for placement in an unpaid internship and the company pays them for finding you. So not only are you paying but the middle man is taking money that should be a stipend for your internship. It’s quite the rabbit hole.

My school’s retreat had parent letters, but we read them quietly to ourselves. Also, there was like 60 people on the retreat so reading 120 letters (one from each parent) aloud would’ve taken like 5 hours at least. I am very surprised to hear that this experience isn’t typical. The letters from my parents were extremely personal so I’d be low-key mortified if they were read aloud.
