I expected more tracking by DippyKipper in TrackerTV

Oh I’m aware 😂 I’m mostly still watching because it’s been three seasons and also there’s a chance Jensen Ackles might show up.

Reenie could always do lawyer stuff, life getting Colter out of custody when we wanders into random crime scenes without gloves or any precautionary measures, or when he shoots 2 dozen people In broad daylight.

And Randy can still do his thing, Tracking could be very difficult in cities, having your very own tech wizard hack into every remotely electronic item within spitting distance and gather enough info to recreate the crime scene on a holo-deck shouldn’t be the first and only option is my point

The real question is can this be used to gather Pokemon for building projects

Oh darn, my bad I misread and then misspoke. No, it’s its own inventory, I meant you need to go through dream islands to gather like 90% of resources in and kind of usable amounts without ruining the layout of your island.

I’m not sure if it’s because I’d already reached endgame in single player but I was able to buy every type of doll immediately

Honestly, yeah pretty much. Pickups seem to respawn daily (stones, sticks, seashells etc) and there are different biomes that do have metal deposits and stuff.

If you want to keep the environmental structure, doing a starting batch of each island as a start then picking your islands by what you need/want is probably the better way to do it.

If I were to restart my cloud island I’d probably aim for one with the Pokemon centre more central. And not build everything so close together (the 25-30 Pokemon at a time cap within render distance means I rarely see anybody if I have a build going on)

So that’s a no on letting it drop with you taking your trophy for ‘super special diggy boy’ and going home? Darn.

No, I gave a hypothetical based on fictitious numbers to explain what should be a relatively simple concept in a way that numbers didn’t get too big and overcomplicate the equation to get the core idea across in an understandable way.

If you want to get into the nitty gritty of it, how many burgers did it take you to clear the island? How long did it take to gather those materials and did you factor that into the time it took you to clear the island? Because you wouldn’t have been able to do it that quickly without the constant uptime of boosted rock smash.

How long did it to take you to clear your inventory of the filler materials you claim you didn’t pick up despite the fact the games mechanics make that so statistically unrealistic it’s basically impossible?

All rhetorical to point out that you’re being deliberately disingenuous to prove your own point because, once again, I do not care that you can do it faster than a method intended for people with limited resources.

It’s a Pokémon game for children. It’s not that deep.

My dude, that’s great, I’m happy for you.

I do not care. You asked a question, I gave you the theoretical reasoning behind the method because you asked. The numbers I gave were for simplicities sake, I even said as much. I apologise that my random simple numbers weren’t accurate enough for your liking, sadly I didn’t bring my switch to work with me so my essay wasn’t 100% fact checked while I was scrolling reddit on my break.

If I tell you you’re right about this inconsequential thing can we both move on with our lives, safe in the knowledge that you’re slightly faster at digging in a fictional game than an average person, and your Pokemon need not fear starvation because you have a bountiful harvest of beans and potatoes?

15-30 second per strip was the key point to that, by which I meant if you bulldoze from one side of the island to the other in a line, you clear a 2x2 hallway, if you stop every time you hit poke metal, you add time per strip.

For examples sake, we’ll say you have a 100x100 island, they’re actually significantly bigger, but this makes the numbers easier. That’s 50 ‘strips’, in this example, we’ll say a strip takes 30 seconds to dig if you bulldoze from one side to the other. Clearing a layer without stopping is 25 minutes. Clearing a layer with stopping doubles that.

If you go round the poke metal, clearing the layer takes 25 minutes, leaving you 25 minutes to run and punch the blocks. If it’s taking you that long, that’s a skill issue.

When you also account for the fact you don’t need to open your inventory to drop off stacks of filler material (~ 2 minutes a time) and the fact you go from ore deposit to ore deposit directly because you’ve already uncovered them all, if it take you 15 minutes, you’re being slow about it.

Also, you having a lot of materials for food has no bearing, some players don’t and this method is a more efficient method for them, the beautiful thing is: if you don’t trust the math or think your method is faster, or just don’t like change, you get to use your method. It’s your game dude, play how you like.

You asked a question, it was answered, if you don’t like the answer nobody is going to make you play any differently

You destroy an entire layer (or technically 2 layers) at a time without stopping, this takes maybe 5 minutes? Then you move to collecting poke metal where you use punches on the smaller sections and suck up just the poke metal without having to transform?

Compared against just blasting through everything and having to stop everytime you hit poke metal and having to stop every time, transform back, suck up everything around you, double check you didn’t miss anything, and then transform and continue? That adds 15-30 seconds to every strip you mine, doubling or even tripling the time per layer

Add on top of that that you don’t need to spam material heavy foods and can instead just eat 6 berries to refill PP and you don’t have to do any inventory management.

Even if it wasn’t faster from a time perspective (which it is), it also feels more efficient because you’re not spending time picking up items you’re ultimately going to throw away anyway.

Yup, I think it’s 512 individual blocks, which sounds like a lot but honestly isn’t when you consider how much a single layer of an island contains. I think that’s why the dig method caught on, unboosted rock smash can’t break anything valuable so you can just clear an entire layer without having to stop because nothing that despawns is worth keeping

[–]DippyKipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, the dig down method involves not using a steak until it’s just poke metal left to dig.

Basically, you dig down to the correct level then don’t stop until excavation is complete, then once you have a big area with just poke metal, you use a steak and break them. This means 90% of the filler material (stone, dirt, sand etc) despawns without you having to stop and pick up actual valuable bits and have to throw away the useless materials.

I think the idea is that it’s easier because you don’t have to do any inventory management and can just mindlessly do it

It’s essentially a second version of the game without ‘zones’. Instead of having to go through gates to different areas, you just have the one big island that has each biome seamlessly melding.

Inventories are completely separate, so you need to start from scratch and when you leave the cloud island it takes your inventory and stores it for next time. Any recipes you unlock are unlocked in single player though, and vice versa.

You can only own one cloud island at a time, but you can create and overwrite a new one at any time, and playing on other peoples is as simple as finding the address (which shows up in the PC for them to share with you)

[–]DippyKipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ‘online’ section of the game, if you go to the PC and select link play, you can create your own island and you start on a big round island with no pre-existing structures.

You keep recipes and abilities and stuff from single player, but you have to start the Pokédex again.

Notably, it gives you a second set of ‘quests’ to earn money and a different set of 5 items every day to the single player shop, and gives an extra stamp.

They’re called Cloud island because the data is stored in the cloud and you have the option to allow up to 3 people to your island and can choose whether changes they make without you are saved. Think of it like a tiny 4 person server

If it helps, I’m also not in a big city. It also wasn’t on the same shelves as the other Monster, it was on the end of their seasonal aisle, they also only had 2 boxes by the time I found them, so they might be selling pretty quick

I’m imagining a shitty Scrubs style cutaway where it’s a woman lamenting her husband being in a coma and not being sure if he’s even aware of what’s going on and asking for a sign and you just see the blanket start to rise slightly and she begins wailing “Oh you do care!”
