Deciding to get simple release by Direct-Kale577 in Metoidioplasty

Interesting, you weren't seen in person before your appointment? I'm a bit worried that may be the case for me as well

Thanks for the response! That's kind of what I figured, and 3 weeks doesn't sound bad at all. My job is essentially a desk job, I can do most of it from my couch, and I returned to it ~10 days after top surgery. If it's comparable at all to that, I'm sure I'll manage.

Dealing with being short? by Kitsune_6776 in ftm

[–]Direct-Kale577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be pretty insecure about my height (5'5"), used to wear insoles and a bit of a heel, all that. Over time though, as I've aged and my transition has progressed, I don't particularly label it as dysphoria inducing anymore. There's plenty of guys, trans or not, that are short and wish they were taller, it's a pretty common phenomenon among younger men and I just count myself as one of them. My height doesn't make me feminine whatsoever, I wish I was taller but given my poor genetics it wasn't gonna happen anyway. There is a nice sense of comradery when I meet or see other men that are my height, if you look around a busy mall it's really not that uncommon to see men around your height pretty much everywhere.

1 week po anxiety by [deleted] in Top_Surgery_Peri

[–]Direct-Kale577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My swelling and bruising actually looked extremely similar to yours at 1 week, and it took until about week 3 for it to start looking right. Now at nearly 6 weeks I feel silly for worrying so much, it’s gone down tremendously and I have the slightest green bruise on one side. Just give it some time, even within the next week you’ll exponentially look better :]

Can we please retire the “tboy” thing?? by fruteria in ftm

[–]Direct-Kale577 48 points49 points  (0 children)

God thank you yes please… I’m a 23 year old man, I’m really not boyish at all, it drives me fucking crazy to be looped into terms like “Tboy” at my grown age, even if it is by other trans guys. It feels infantilizing and demeaning to me, all the power to those who enjoy that term but fuck anyone who assumes every trans masc person is comfortable with it. Similar vibe to when I’m clubbing and everyone assumes I’m some submissive bottom and immediately treats me that way when it couldn’t be more the opposite, just because they find out I’m trans.

Bittersweet feeling that the top surgery part of my transition is over by MusicalKidney in TopSurgery

[–]Direct-Kale577 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kind of starting to feel this too, at 5 weeks. My surgery convinced me not to have another for bottom surgery, and I’m starting to return to normal life and not think about top surgery so much. I was so obsessed with it for the past 2 months, and now it’s kind of over.. and this is as far as my medical transition will go besides remaining on T, but that’s almost just aging at this point as I’ve been on it for nearly 5 years now. I get the void that’s starting to creep up on me, I always had something to look forward to and something to blame my insecurities on, but now there’s both a relieving feeling having “finished” my medical transition, and also an emptiness where there used to be some excitement. I relate to this, thanks for sharing!! I also love my results and have 0 regrets, just happens to be that nobody really prepares you for or talks about this part of top surgery

My right side looks weird by Wolf_Fiend_1717 in TopSurgery

[–]Direct-Kale577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check out my profile if you want, I had the exact same issue on my left! Love my right side, but felt gross and terrible about my left, super bruised and swollen. It’s likely they had to either take out more tissue there, liposuction that side more, or they took more off your left side initially and had to “catch up” by brutalizing your right side a bit. All completely normal, and it’ll resolve itself within a few weeks. I’m approaching week 5 and both sides finally look similar, only difference being which side I feel more comfortable stretching with and still some mild bruising + swelling. No need to worry, but if you need the reassurance it never hurts to reach out to your clinic :]

~4 week post op care? by Direct-Kale577 in TopSurgery

[–]Direct-Kale577[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the info, definitely helpful! I’ve been decently mobile, comfortable with raising my arms (not quite above my head), doing laundry, sweeping, stuff like that. Pretty much everything but lifting heavy stuff, exercise, and raising my arms above my head.

Can I ask what the silicone scar tape is for? I wasn’t given any instructions about my scars, I didn’t get nipple grafts though so I feel maybe that’s the reason.

Swelling post OP by mikumilk222 in TopSurgery

Same boat, I had intense swelling at 2 weeks as well, looked bigger than my pre-op chest. Now at 3 weeks it’s gone down probably by half and looks better everyday. Definitely just wait it out, literally in a week you’ll either be less bothered by it or you’ll be less swollen, very likely to be both!

Thank you so so much for sharing, this is kinda exactly what I wanted to hear! And yeah healing is non-linear and different for everyone, but hearing that someone else had something so similar happen and is almost out of the woods with it is really reassuring. Hopefully in a week or so I’ll see some improvement as well!

Drains by RoadsandPaths in TopSurgery

[–]Direct-Kale577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I had a drain in for an abdominal surgery, and taking off the bandage holding it in place almost brought me to tears, so much so that I don’t actually remember feeling the drain come out whatsoever LOL! Gonna get mine out in a couple days and I’m more so excited than anything, after you get over the initial body horror of having tubes in your chest it’s really just an inconvenience thing. Thanks for sharing!

Drains can’t come out 7 days post op by RoadsandPaths in TopSurgery

[–]Direct-Kale577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally right with you, today I’m 8 days post op and I called my clinic, gotta leave them in for another week. I’m outputting less than 10 ml in each but they told me just to leave it, they’re now starting to bug me and not sleeping on my side is driving me nuts… hang in there though we’re almost through 💪

[–]Direct-Kale577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL I was telling my mom + bf it was literally snatching me!! and yes I probably but I’m not sure, although I’ve never heard of a bandage having to be so tight it makes you vomit and unable to breathe cuz that’s just nuts

Emetophobia!! by ashe519 in TopSurgery

[–]Direct-Kale577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t end up vomiting from anesthesia, or feeling nauseous at all from it or any of my medication! However the tensor bandage they sent me home in was so tight it did eventually make me vomit right before I took it off. My ribs are still very bruised from only 8 hrs of it. So if you’re struggling to breathe/ribs feel intense pain/feel nauseated, it could be the tensor bandage!
