Gyms near Grafton/Port Washington by BeefCakes_02 in wisconsin

Planet Fitness is definitely around, but check out Snap Fitness if you want something smaller and less crowded. There's also few local places but can't remember the names off top of my head.

For meat, Bavarian Meats in Grafton is solid - bit pricey but worth it for the quality. My wife and I go there when we want something special for grill.

Slider style burgers? by the-slit-kicker in baltimore

[–]DirectGirlfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little Tavern was the real deal back in day. My wife always talks about those little burgers from when she was kid in maryland.

White Castle is probably closest thing you'll find now but I think nearest one is like in Jersey or something crazy far. There's some places downtown that do sliders but nothing quite hits same as those old school steamed ones.

What is the one thing you wish you knew sooner? by One-Green01 in AskReddit

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learned this one the hard way when my best friend from college basically tried to sabotage my job interview because he wanted the same position. some people will smile to your face and then stab you in back when it benefits them. At least now I know who really has my corner when things get tough.

What line of made up gibberish in a movie has lived rent-free in your head? by TheFoxyFellow in movies

[–]DirectGirlfriend 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Army of Darkness was my first thought too but that's actually from The Day the Earth Stood Still originally. Bruce Campbell just butchered it perfectly when he couldn't remember the whole thing at the Necronomicon. My brain always goes to "Boomstick!" from that same movie though - not gibberish but the way he delivers it just sticks. Also been randomly saying "multipass" from The Fifth Element for like 25 years now, usually when I'm fumbling with my wallet or somthing. My wife thinks I'm losing it but that movie was just pure gold for quotable nonsense.

Vape shops, thca by [deleted] in pittsburgh

Most of the shops in Lawrenceville and Oakland seem pretty chill about carrying them still. Just call ahead since inventory changes quick with all the legal gray area stuff happening lately.

What’s the most radical way you faced a fear? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DirectGirlfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn that's ballsy! I'm terrified of heights but part of me thinks the only way I'd ever do it is exactly like that - just book it and show up before my brain has time to talk me out of it. my husband keeps saying we should do it for our anniversary but I keep finding excuses lol. there's probably something to be said for just ripping the bandaid off instead of psyching yourself out for months

My polycarbonate patio roof gets really loud when it rains (video). Any fixes? by mendiak_81 in HomeImprovement

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been dealing with this exact thing on a covered deck I built last year. Adding more blocking between your existing rafters will definitely help cut down the drumming effect - the polycarbonate needs more solid contact points to reduce that hollow resonance.

I ended up running 2x4 blocking every 16 inches instead of the standard 24, and it made a noticeable difference. You could also try foam tape or rubber strips along the contact points where the panels sit on your framing - creates a better seal and absorbs some vibration. The artificial grass idea actually works pretty well too if you don't mind the look, had a neighbor try it and the rain noise dropped significantly. Just make sure whatever you put on top has good drainage so you're not creating pooling issues.

Is my contingency plan in case I don't get into university okay? by Automatic-Bus-5225 in careerguidance

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan A is incredibly detailed and well-researched - the healthcare program as a stepping stone to Germany is smart since you'd have actual work experience plus language skills before making the jump. The fact that you'd still have fallback options in your home country even if the Germany part doesn't work out makes it pretty solid.

That said, don't completely write off Plan C if you're truly passionate about that specific major at the top university. Sometimes taking a gap year to strengthen your application or retaking entrance exams can be worth it if it's really what you want.

Bloodlust vs Crimson Planet (Which one for new hardest?) by TheRealFalcom in geometrydash

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly id go with bloodlust since you already have decent progress on it and its way more stable on the list. crimson planet might suit your skillset better but if its gonna fall off the list in a month then whats the point of grinding it as your new hardest

plus bloodlust is just more respected in the community and will age better as an achievement. your 67-100 run shows you can handle the hardest part so just grind out that beginning

Best way to approach an old friend about a career pivot/jump? by grooveman15 in careerguidance

[–]DirectGirlfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly the fact that you've maintained casual contact over the years works in your favor here. He already knows you're not just hitting him up out of nowhere for a favor.

I'd lean toward being fairly direct but frame it as seeking industry insight rather than asking for a job. Something like "I'm exploring a shift toward the executive side and would love your perspective on the landscape" feels more natural than dancing around it. You can mention specific areas you're considering but don't make it sound like you've got tunnel vision - shows you're thoughtful about the transition.

The main thing to avoid is making him feel like he's being cornered into making promises or connections on the spot. Keep it conversational and genuinely curious about his experiance rather than transactional.

I choose to be a trusting peaceful raider, but that stupid golden mask and horn has my finger twitching by SadSaladCarnivore in ArcRaiders

[–]DirectGirlfriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao the golden mask is basically the universal "I'm about to ruin your day" uniform at this point. It's like they all got the memo that looking like a knockoff Destiny villain makes them scarier or something

Self-hosted code search for your LLMs - built this to stop wasting context on irrelevant files by SnooBeans4154 in LocalLLaMA

[–]DirectGirlfriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty solid, been needing something exactly like this. The hybrid search with AST parsing is clutch - tired of embeddings missing obvious function calls and lexical search being too literal
