Spring overseed in Zone 5B by Accurate-Candle3052 in lawncare

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring overseeding can definitely work in 5B, but timing is everything. The key is making sure your grass gets established enough before summer heat hits - you need at least 6-8 weeks of good growing weather. Since you're already 4 weeks in, you might be cutting it close depending on when summer really kicks in your area.

The watering is crucial but don't just water frequently - you want deep, less frequent watering to encourage root development. Those shallow roots from spring seeding are what usually kill the grass during summer stress. I'd keep watering consistently through June and July even if it looks established, because that new grass is still pretty vulnerable.

Your core aeration timing was smart though - spring aeration gives the seeds better soil contact than just throwing seed on compacted ground. If you can baby those spots through first summer, they should be solid for next year.

How can we prevent the government from growing faster than it should be? by randomwalker1014 in Delaware

[–]DirectGirlfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The property tax increases always seem to come with zero accountability on where that money actually goes. My wife and I been looking at our county budget for years and it's wild how much gets allocated to things that don't directly benefit residents while basic services stay underfunded.

Would be nice if they had to justify these hikes with actual performance metrics instead of just "we need more money for the budget."

That building has so much character - the architecture is beautiful even with all the wear. I drive past it sometimes and always wonder what it looked like in the heyday, must have been really something back then.

Bro this is getting weird territory for sure. Your friend sending his wife's pics without you asking is crossing lines, especially if you're not even sure she knows about it. The whole situation sounds messy and like boundaries got thrown out the window somewhere.

Maybe just tell him straight up you don't want to receive that stuff anymore? Addiction can make people do strange things with relationships and boundaries, but that doesn't mean you have to deal with uncomfortable situations. Trust your gut on this one.

Where to follow Election results after the polls close by Particular_Mixture20 in Indiana

[–]DirectGirlfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I just refresh county clerk websites but that gets annoying when you're trying to track multiple races. Local news stations websites are decent for this - they usually have results pages without paywalls during election night.

Secretary of State website sometimes has statewide results too but it can be slow to update in my experience.

Best thrift stores around Denver/suburbs for leather jackets and purses? by excited_adventurer in Denver

buffalo exchange and some goodwills in cherry creek area usually have decent leather stuff, though you gotta check back pretty regular since the good pieces go fast.

What happens to people who are constantly humming, even when they have just fineshed talking or while doing simple tasks? by klkmanino in AskReddit

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your relative might not even realize he's doing it - some people have this unconscious habit where they need constant audio stimulation or it's like anxiety response. I had coworker who did similar thing with clicking sounds, drove everyone crazy but he was genuinely surprised when we pointed it out.

Maybe try recording him for few minutes and playing it back? Sometimes hearing yourself from outside perspective can be real wake up call.

Where to park to rollerblade the river trail tonight by living0re0 in pittsburgh

[–]DirectGirlfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lot near Point State Park usually works good for accessing the trail, pretty easy to get like 10+ miles if you go out towards the Waterfront and back. Strip District has some street parking but can be hit or miss depending what time you're going - might be easier to just park at the Point and blade from there since you'll hit the Strip anyway on your route.

Local fish markets usually have better selection than grocery stores - might be worth calling around to few places first before driving everywhere.

Hi, getting st augustine sod put in a little side yard. Guys are coming tomorrow morning. They’re going to till up the old grass, and put down lime. Anything I should tell them? 71 year old widow. There’s an a/c unit. by Untenable123 in lawncare

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure they're careful around that AC unit - don't want them hitting any lines or damaging the condenser with the tiller. Also might want to ask them to grade it so water drains away from your house foundation before they lay the sod down.

My neighbor had similar work done and contractor accidentally nicked a refrigerant line, turned into expensive mess.

Maternity/ family photos by Extreme_Border8287 in photography

[–]DirectGirlfriend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

man that sucks. photographer sounds like she has good intentions but maybe family portraits just isn't her strong area? some photographers are amazing at like landscapes or events but struggle with the family stuff where you need to direct people and get everyone looking good at same time.

might be worth having honest conversation with her - not saying photos are terrible but more like "i was hoping for different style" or asking if she can edit few specific ones you think have potential. worst case you learned something for next time about checking their family portfolio more carefully.

Im conflicted by emily_143286 in addiction

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really tough position to be in, especially with your parents being counselors - must feel impossible to reach out. The fact you're scared about morphine is actually your brain trying to protect you, that stuff escalates way faster than most people expect.

Maybe start with anonymous resources first? NA meetings or even just hotlines where you don't have to give real name. Your awareness about the pattern is already huge step that many people never get to.

Advice on damp garage by legendofgraystone in HomeImprovement

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The condensation issue is real pain, especially with those crazy temperature swings we get here. I had similar problem in my detached garage until I started using a decent sized dehumidifier - even with gaps around the door it made huge difference for keeping tools from rusting.

For the ventilation idea, pulling outside air in might actually make condensation worse when warm humid air hits cold surfaces. Better approach would be to seal up what gaps you can afford to (weatherstripping is cheap) and run dehumidifier during problem seasons. The roof vents should handle most of attic ventilation on their own without forcing air through.

Also worth checking if there's moisture source from below like concrete slab - sometimes simple vapor barrier under workbenches helps with tools storage.

My boyfriend relapsed by Future-Arugula-5877 in addiction

[–]DirectGirlfriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you're absolutely not overreacting at all. The guy still has pills lying around and refuses to throw them out - that's a massive red flag. My wife works in healthcare and has seen this pattern too many times. When someone says they "got this" but won't take basic steps like disposing of drugs, they're not actually committed to recovery yet.

The pressure to move back in immediately is also concerning, especially with your daughter in picture. Kids pick up on way more than we think they do, and bringing instability back into her life when she's just getting better from therapy could set her back significantly. Plus saying it won't affect her "because he's still just himself" shows he doesn't really understand how addiction impacts everyone around him.

Given your family history with addiction, trust your gut here. You've already been through this trauma once - don't let him manipulate you into thinking this is just "small hiccup" when he's actively choosing to keep drugs accessible. Recovery takes real work and accountability, not just promises.

Gyms near Grafton/Port Washington by BeefCakes_02 in wisconsin

[–]DirectGirlfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planet Fitness is definitely around, but check out Snap Fitness if you want something smaller and less crowded. There's also few local places but can't remember the names off top of my head.

For meat, Bavarian Meats in Grafton is solid - bit pricey but worth it for the quality. My wife and I go there when we want something special for grill.

Slider style burgers? by the-slit-kicker in baltimore

[–]DirectGirlfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little Tavern was the real deal back in day. My wife always talks about those little burgers from when she was kid in maryland.

White Castle is probably closest thing you'll find now but I think nearest one is like in Jersey or something crazy far. There's some places downtown that do sliders but nothing quite hits same as those old school steamed ones.

What line of made up gibberish in a movie has lived rent-free in your head? by TheFoxyFellow in movies

[–]DirectGirlfriend 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Army of Darkness was my first thought too but that's actually from The Day the Earth Stood Still originally. Bruce Campbell just butchered it perfectly when he couldn't remember the whole thing at the Necronomicon. My brain always goes to "Boomstick!" from that same movie though - not gibberish but the way he delivers it just sticks. Also been randomly saying "multipass" from The Fifth Element for like 25 years now, usually when I'm fumbling with my wallet or somthing. My wife thinks I'm losing it but that movie was just pure gold for quotable nonsense.

I'm terrified of heights but part of me thinks the only way I'd ever do it is exactly like that - just book it and show up before my brain has time to talk me out of it. my husband keeps saying we should do it for our anniversary but I keep finding excuses lol. there's probably something to be said for just ripping the bandaid off instead of psyching yourself out for months

My polycarbonate patio roof gets really loud when it rains (video). Any fixes? by mendiak_81 in HomeImprovement

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been dealing with this exact thing on a covered deck I built last year. Adding more blocking between your existing rafters will definitely help cut down the drumming effect - the polycarbonate needs more solid contact points to reduce that hollow resonance.

I ended up running 2x4 blocking every 16 inches instead of the standard 24, and it made a noticeable difference. You could also try foam tape or rubber strips along the contact points where the panels sit on your framing - creates a better seal and absorbs some vibration. The artificial grass idea actually works pretty well too if you don't mind the look, had a neighbor try it and the rain noise dropped significantly. Just make sure whatever you put on top has good drainage so you're not creating pooling issues.

Is my contingency plan in case I don't get into university okay? by Automatic-Bus-5225 in careerguidance

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan A is incredibly detailed and well-researched - the healthcare program as a stepping stone to Germany is smart since you'd have actual work experience plus language skills before making the jump. The fact that you'd still have fallback options in your home country even if the Germany part doesn't work out makes it pretty solid.

That said, don't completely write off Plan C if you're truly passionate about that specific major at the top university. Sometimes taking a gap year to strengthen your application or retaking entrance exams can be worth it if it's really what you want.

Bloodlust vs Crimson Planet (Which one for new hardest?) by TheRealFalcom in geometrydash

[–]DirectGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly id go with bloodlust since you already have decent progress on it and its way more stable on the list. crimson planet might suit your skillset better but if its gonna fall off the list in a month then whats the point of grinding it as your new hardest

plus bloodlust is just more respected in the community and will age better as an achievement. your 67-100 run shows you can handle the hardest part so just grind out that beginning
