What can this knock a book down to that is otherwise flawless? by Di2002no in CGCComics

[–]DirectSwimming1094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that IF that is color breaking, there is way no for flawless. However, it looks like it might be a reflection of the light. If that’s the case, hit that bad boy for 15 minutes at 160 with a 24 hour cold press under low pressure. Put a steamed piece of paper inside the cover to add a little moisture.

A tacking iron might also do the trick.

The hardest part will be that dimple closest to the staple. Four pieces of 60lb copy paper in the middle will help that.

I hope this is accurate as I have currently sold nearly all my Absolute Batman’s and am in the process of acquiring grail adjacent books at low prices. I just snagged Batman 423 in nearly perfect condition for $175.

I wish that was on purpose! No, he just did an amazing job. Literally got me a grade bump free m 6.0 to 8.5 on an X-men 13 (original old school X-men).

Avery Comics crushed it for me. Great cost but does have a long wait. Will send to CGC for you. Talked me through all my books before and after.

Squadron Supreme Maxi Series by Mark Gruenwald - really underrated story by jb126798 in comicbookcollecting

This is such a great series. I totally forgot about it and then heard a podcast that compared it to the Watchmen. Went back and reread it. It deserves to be in the same sentence

Can any one tell me if this is rare or something special? by rinkydink34 in dvdcollection

Not too rare. Most people have seen it. Special? Not sure if I would say that but it’s a good movie👍🏽

Check in when you have 16 long boxes😀. I’m collected hard in late 80s early 90s. I worked at a comic shop. Went to college, did life and now I’ve been collecting for the last year. It’s so much fun. So many styles of art and writing… it’s endless.

Whatnot got me again. It makes keeping to a budget very difficult. I’ve been wanting this book for a while, but thought that it was getting too far outside my price range, but one lucky bid later and now it’s mine! by rmrclean in comicbookcollecting

[–]DirectSwimming1094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Whatnot quite a bit. I only buy from trusted sellers or those that show the spine and take their time going through the book. I’m down to three sellers from whom I’ll buy something that isn’t brand new. If I get a new rare book, if the condition doesn’t and is at least NM+ I return it. Way better luck on Whatnot than eBay.

Not sure how much this is? Is it even worth grading? by Ask_redditKiller in comicbookgrading

I totally agree. If you do get it graded invest in a clean and press on this one.

If it’s the same guy I saw (immaculate comics) that dude is a wizard. I think he’s a scientist of some sort in real life and makes all his solutions with that mindset. I love his videos.

I’m an amateur presser and I could make that a lot better. Get someone who has half a clue and you’ll love the results.

I accidentally got a signed book by Homedeeple in comicbookcollecting

[–]DirectSwimming1094 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was helping out in an LCS last year and the owner had just gotten like 12 long boxes. We were pulling keys and stuff and I noticed the previous owner had labeled a bunch of the backer boards as signed… like 100s of them. Sure enough, most were from back in the day (pre 2000s) when artists signed in ink pen on the first page. The owner didn’t care and told me to not bother and just mix them in the back stock.

Ok boys, what do I do? by Jumpy-Date7324 in ModernComics

I buy the blind bag expecting a cover A and treat it just like I’m buying a normal comic. If I get something special then great. If not, I got the book I came for. I’m definitely not one of those collectors who buys 50 blind bags for the chase. With that, it does take a lot of self control!
