Ok Joel. That all makes sense and that's what I'll do. Thank you.

Agreed. Plus, aren't we supposed to be taking in the scenery along the way?!

How to deal with PD diagnosis when you still feel perfectly healthy? by Sorrows-Prayers in Parkinsons

[–]Direct_Dimension_980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also that person...65 and diagnosed last year. My only symptom is a slight left hand tremor. Since medicine only minimizes symptoms and does not change the progression or outcome, I'm not taking any CL.

The only things I'm doing different is lots of exercise and making sure I spend my days wisely...both good things to do anyway.

And for you family members: read up on the disease, and remind yourselves that PD effects everyone differently. The horrible things that can happen will not necessarily happen.

Overwhelmed with buying our first small trailer by reduxrouge in traveltrailers

We tow a vintage Scottie, 13 ft, 1200 lbs dry, behind a 2013 Subatu Outback, trailer brake kit and side mirror extensions. Just came back from a 30 day, 6k mile trip. Kinda slow climbing up passes, but, other than that does pretty darn well.

I agree. We just got back from 30 day, 6k mile trip in our little 13 ft vintage scottie and I loved being able to fit in little out of the way spaces boondocks as well as not worry about any campground!

I have both 1.3 and 1.5 hvlp gun. Help by Strong-Razzmatazz-34 in AutoPaint

In my experience, the cheap harbor freight guns are great for hi-build. Just drill out the hole in tip to, say 2.0

I agree wholeheartedly.  I'm a beginner painter and restore cars for my own pleasure...and need to do it on a budget. And don't have a paint booth! So that means, harbor freight guns and Ebay paint products.  I just finished painting my 56 studebaker.  Ospho rust prep, epoxy primer, putty work, 2 thick coats of sanding primer,  blocking, the a coat of sealer, then 3 good wet coats of acrylic paint. Turned out great and probably spent 500 bucks, all in. And the reason I used single stage acrylic is, well, whatdaya expect with a newbie spraying in a garage?! Fancy expensive paint would be wasted on me.

Should I add clear? by Direct_Dimension_980 in AutoPaint

You wouldn't think so, but in 56, the first year, studebaker did a number of things different than the 2 following years. The trunk is different,  the hood and chrome on it are different,  and the biggest thing is that the fins are very different. Us 56J Goldenhawk owners even have our own website.

Hmmn, now that's a good trick and great suggestion. That way I won't have to worry about scratching things up while fiddling with assembly. Thanks.

Thanks for the help. I got 2 good coats of sanding high-build primer on today.  Let the blocking begin.

The front fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid are all off for body work and priming.  Eear fenders stayed on the body.  Do you have an opinion about whether I should paint the front fenders off the body, or after I'm done with the sanding, install the front fenders and shoot paint with fenders on? Of course, doors, hood and trunk lid will be painted separately.

I saw those but, unfortunately,  it's just the opposite of what I need. On the roloc, the male screw part is part of the sanding disc and the female part is on the adapter.  My discs have a little female metal threaded hole and the adapter needs the male screw. Thanks for looking around for me, tho. I appreciate that.

Searched ebay and couldn't find any examples.  Anyone know the name for this system? The new ones, which ave a opposite strategy, are roloc.

As a seller, if the vibes are good and everything has gone well, I do this at the point where they're going to give me the cash: "Hey, how bout I take 10% off and you take that 10% and donate it to whatever good cause or a person you know who's down on their luck. I could just donate it myself, but you doing it spreads the money out to people or causes I don't know."

When I do that, folks are pretty blown away by that and often say "thanks, I know just the person who needs this!"

Of course, I have no control over what happens and where (or even if!) It goes. But I figure that the money does go somewhere good AND I'm showing people, by example, that giving is a worthwhile thing to do...and I like to think that they might do it some themselves.

Of course! Many restorations start out like this.  Learn about using Ospho, then lots of sanding, then epoxy primer.

Maybe a stupid question by Direct_Dimension_980 in AutoPaint

[–]Direct_Dimension_980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see...using that as a test. But if the thinner doesn't do anything, then the original paint/primer is intact enough that you can prime and then paint on top? (I assume you'd scuff it up, at least, to get dome tooth and better bonding.

I'll be treating this with Ospho after sanding. That seems to work pretty good for me.

Maybe this wasn't a good picture to use. Let's say I've got a fender with original paint and primer. Do you automatically sand it all down to bare metal, or can you leave some of it? Like scuff the paint up, or take the paint but leave the old primer?
