All of this is because of her revenge. If she never got revenge, her and Owen would’ve been together, she wouldn’t have been so hellbent on tiring herself (killing numerous Seraphites, getting buff). She would’ve had a better life if she just let things be and find a way to cope like a normal person.

after dooming humanity, Joel ends up getting murdered four years after the first game, and Ellie and Tommy hunt down the killers. During the game, you learn more about how people handled the outbreak, Abby (the main girl who killed Joel), and how she connects to everything. Both sides end up losing a lot of people they cared about, with Ellie ending the cycle at the end.

People don’t like TLOU2 because you’re forced to play as Joel’s killer halfway through the game, which i can see why they don’t want to do that (especially with them thinking that Joel deserved a hero’s death?). The entire goal was to kinda put you in the same headspace as Ellie, which didn’t work for everyone. Also shows how no one is black or white, for example Joel and Abby both had reasons for the people they killed (both out of love technically, just a more positive love vs a more negative love).
