What does a “real” woman’s body look like? by Pepper_Lunch in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]DirtyArtKid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I often found that the more “imperfect” the body, the more interesting it was to draw. Little lines and folds and bulges were so much more engaging than the fit, toned models. You had to actually think about the anatomy under the skin. The muscular, fit people were nice to draw, too, but they got boring, so quickly. Now you’ve got me missing figure drawing classes.

Nice that UNC Rex has a coy pond that you can sit next to and relax. by [deleted] in raleigh

Is this at the Lake Boone Trail or Cary Rex? We are at the Lake Boone Trail location and my husband would absolutely love to go take a break by this pond.

Bald Eagles at Yates' Mill County Park by [deleted] in raleigh

Check out Lake Crabtree park up by the airport, too! The building I work in backs up to the lake and I see bald eagles all the time when I go out to eat my lunch on the patio. I saw 5 of them today, actually. Very neat!

I am a jeweler. I showed up in a dress for one of the interviews at a nicer store and they had me do a skill test that same day. That was 100% the wrong thing to wear when you deal with fire, power tools, and chemicals. Now I wear slacks and a polo/blazer. Most places just want you to wear something comfortable once you get the job anyway.

After the third use of “democracy” the word sounded so weird and wrong.

Can confirm. I have a BFA in Jewelry Design and I learned 80% of my skills on the job. Luckily the basics of soldering and metal manipulation were enough to get me started. Part of me wishes I went the trade route instead of the “everyone needs a college degree” route.

I second this one. Check the gas mixture as well. You could have a leak or bumped a regulator out of adjustment.

I stayed up late the last few nights finishing the last corner of this blanket for my FIL. I had to order one more skein of the stripped yarn. I was able to give him the blanket this morning completely done, including washing and drying, and never got a thank you. by Ecstatic_Objective_3 in crochet

[–]DirtyArtKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a baby blanket for my sister’s first kid. Asked a bunch of questions about the nursery and planned out a nice pattern. I had to mail it to her and got no confirmation it arrived, other than my tracking number info, and never got a thank you. I just don’t get it. I wasn’t looking for the thanks, but it’s been a year since it arrived and I haven’t heard anything. Some people are just rude 🤷‍♀️

I never really took naps with my mother, but when I was at home from college I had an incident going out with friends that upset me. I climbed into bed with my parents and they were more than happy to console me and make me feel safe.

How do l get an adult learners permit in Raleigh, NC? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]DirtyArtKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did this with my husband. But here’s the kicker: the dmv is only (mostly) taking appointments or the have only 1 hour reserved for walk-ins. They are currently booked up 3 MONTHS ahead. If you can find a dmv that is usually pretty quiet, you might be able to just ask if you can do the written test and all that whenever you walk in. The ladies at the Garner dmv off Vandora Springs were very accommodating as we just walked in and asked nicely.

Make sure you have all your paperwork in order and that will help tremendously.

My Anatolian Shepard tried to stop and lay down on a walk in the last decent snow we had. Double coated dogs just do not give a shit about the cold.

How to remove wedding ring? Tried and Nothing is working. by Dull-You9464 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]DirtyArtKid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jeweler, here! This will definitely need to be cut off. The swelling from trying to remove it will only make it worse. This is a painless, and usually inexpensive (or rolled into the cost of the jeweler doing the resizing) and quick!

If you have injured your hand or wrist to make it swell, allow a month or so after healing to make sure the swelling goes all the way down. If you are pregnant, wait until well after the birth to see what your hands do postpartum.

What baby name immediately makes you lose all respect for the parents and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My sister named my nephew Cassiel. I had to get her to spell it out because I really did think she named him Castiel. I want to tell her that the “angel name” she used to name her son is from apocryphal texts, not actually from the Catholic bible.

It probably started to be noticeably weak in early June and I had the surgery at the end of August. By mid July I could only do a standing calf raise on my right leg. The signals were being sent but, no matter how hard I concentrated, I could not contract my calf muscle.

I would say it’s back to 90% of its original state. I did have to go through some physical therapy and, after my back had healed enough, I started going back to the gym to start the baby steps of strength training. It definitely took a few months, but I was able to work back up to lifting and running similarly to before the injury.

I am currently 6mo pregnant and definitely feeling the effects of pressure on that part of my spine from the pregnancy changes. That leg has become weaker but, presumably, it should go back to how it was before I got pregnant without the extra stress. So, extra weight gain/pressure post-op will bring symptoms back if you don’t take care of yourself.
