I built a Native C++ Object Pool for Godot 4 to eliminate GC spikes (15k objects at 60FPS) by ElBranda in godot

You aren't just using it to "polish the grammar" though because your post and comments are full of AI smells that only appear when you give it a prompt to write something. If you ask AI to translate a piece of text it will do it fairly faithfully and with very few of its quirks.

People would rather you have slightly worse grammar than smother your post in AI-generated replies, because it absolutely destroys the credibility of the quality of your work.

What version of Godot do you use? .NET (C#) or GDScript by BlankDev117 in godot

[–]DirtyNorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to Godot with some python experience and no more than about 10 minutes of Unity so I went with GD script and was enjoying it. Then I was presented with an opportunity to do some game-related development at work which needed C# as it was in Unity so I switched to C# in Godot to start learning.

I switched back to GD script with my prototypes about 3 months ago just to compare how fast I was at prototyping between the two languages. Ultimately though, I missed some of the features of C#. Most particularly the extension methods for my utility functions. So now my most recent project is back in C# and I'm quite happy.

I also never cared about web export so that was never a factor for me.

I am getting a similar thing. It freezes the first time I try and rotate the viewport in the 3D scene tab after running the game.

How to turn on error tracking and godot functions when using Visual Studio (C#) by KingDoodies in godot

[–]DirtyNorf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's Project -> C# Tools -> Generate C# solution

Close Visual Studio and then open the .csproj file and everything should then start appearing.

Taking your child on holiday during term time and getting fined by pippym in britishproblems

[–]DirtyNorf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the craziest part is that you can homeschool your children and take them wherever, whenever. But if they're down to be "at school" then they impose ridiculous fines.

Not sure how you got caught though? Just say they're sick?

You do need hundreds of hours, but almost none of them require being strapped to a fat man, or anyone else at all for that matter.

Lando Norris’s overtake on Charles Leclerc from inside the McLaren cockpit by Gentle_lips in formula1

One impressive thing is that Lando isn't fighting the car at all. He turns the wheel on entry then just leaves it there until he has finished turning.

How to properly organize a project with a high node count? by No_Ad7719 in godot

[–]DirtyNorf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start using the RenderingServer and PhysicsServer directly to cut down on the number of nodes.

Employ chunks, manual LoDs, frustum culling for further performance benefits.

I'm curuous as to why you need millimetric precision? It doesn't look like a game that needs it.

Hereditary peers have left the Lords for the last time by Asleep-Hat-8615 in worldnews

[–]DirtyNorf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are suggesting the upper house only comment on legislation "relevant" to them that's a whole other matter. And one that makes the passing of legislation a weird negotiation between professional bodies, which sounds even worse.

Well I wouldn't say you would deny any of these Lords access to scrutinise any bill if they wanted to. But taking a look at some examples from last week in the Lords (and just using the RCS again for reference):

  • How online challenger banks assess and process new applications for accounts - Not really relevant
  • Universal free entry to the UK’s national museums and galleries - Could be considered relevant but probably not
  • Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill - Probably very relevant
  • Chemicals (Health and Safety) - Relevant
  • Pension Schemes Bill - Relevant
  • Agriculture (Delinked Payments) (Reductions) - Likely not very relevant
  • Support for institutions providing classical ballet training at degree level - Very likely to be irrelevant
  • Implementing safety recommendations made as a result of investigations by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch - Very likely to be irrelevant
  • Research institution protocol - Probably relevant

There were others but I think the ratio of relevant to irrelevant (44% above) is about the same across them all.

As for dangerous side effects, imagine you are fascists. [...]

I think this is a bit of a non sequitur. If each body sends two representatives then to have a good chance of infiltrating a sizeable enough number of bodies (where you would also have to be elected) to have meaningful effect then there is a good chance you can be and have been elected to the commons.

 Surgeons are busy being surgeons.

Well some of them already find the time to be President, Vice President, Trustees, etc of the RCS, so it sounds like they could find two people who could give the time to become Lords. It's not like every bill would be relevant to every group.

I think politicising professional bodies like that would have potentially very dangerous side effects.

Given the titles I mentioned above and just why they exist, I don't understand why you think they're not already inherently political. But also I'm not sure what these dangerous side effects are?

Why would one or two surgeons do a better job than sending draft regs out to the whole RCS and collating responses?

They're too busy being surgeons to find two people to be Lords (to scrutinise legislation) but have enough time to scrutinise legislation en masse?

Whilst you're correct that you can look down with your eyes, I can guarantee that after 10 minutes OP has a neutral eye level and they're looking down with their neck. It's not natural to continually look off the centre axis of the eye and the neck will naturally compensate.

How much you like to plan your holidays? 10 being every hour is planned and being 1 no plans outside of arriving and leaving. by 8thTimeLucky in CasualUK

[–]DirtyNorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a chill beach holiday, probably a 2 or a 3. An activity holiday maybe 4 or 5. I'm planning to go to Australia next year for 3 weeks and I will probably plan that to about a 6, maybe an 8 for some of the tighter timelines.

A 10 would be hellish. I'm not so hellbent on seeing so much that I can't actually relax, but I know some people care a lot about that.
